Vivienne's a no-brainer since she has the most connection to 'The Game' but who else has good dialogue for this quest? Also Cassandra is my LI so do I need to take her to have the dance?

You will also get Leliana, Josie, and Cullen, I really don't think it matters who you pick but I picked Viv, Cass, and Varric because I thought those three wouldn't embarrass me (one does sort of) My next play through I am going to pick Dorian, Sera, and The Iron Bull (TIB)

I believe you MUST bring your LI to get the dance, but as for your third companion, hmm...

I brought Sera, she gives some interesting insight on the people at the Winter Palace. (Non-nobles.)

Those are three I picked as well, and for similar reaons.

I took Cole and he was interesting, but he's also in a 'restricted' part of the grounds so talking to him puts your approval rating down slowly but surely... Other than that Bull was fun, if inconsequential and Dorian had a few good jokes to spare. I also enjoyed Varric and Cassandra, but overall who you take is more of a fluff choice in terms of what they say and how helpful they are. Also, Solas wears a silly hat.

I brought Solas since he was my LI.  Stupid clipping hat aside, he has some interesting insight at Halamshiral.

Definitely bring Lady Maya of house Balsytch of the great city of Korse.

 

You won't regret it.

Vivienne doesn't actually have much more to say or do than any other companion. Take her along if you like her, but I was a little disappointed with her content there. Same with Varric and the Warden/Hawke quest. Not to say characters don't sometimes have interesting extra content, (take Dorian on Bull's personal quest) I'm just bad at predicting where it'll occur.

 

I liked bringing Cole to Halamshiral because he said something cool about Leliana. Really, though, just take your faves~

Take your faves and your LI. I had Dorian, Blackwall and Varric. I thought Varrics interactions with the guests were funny.

And Cullen, poor guy... Just go and make sure you explore every nook and cranny.

And sometimes twice over! Some secrets don't drop until right before you get to the final area you need to explore.

I brought cass, viv, and varric...  varric didnt say much, cass just wanted to leave, and viv actually talked a little and how i should be careful....  Josephine and cullen have the best stuff going on.  Im tempted to take iron bull this next time.  Cole... meh... sera, god no any sane inquisitor would not take her here

I was pretty disappointed in Vivienne's content at the winter palace. She adds absolutely nothing and the one or two insights into the Game she does offer are pretty flippant and empty.

 

Cassandra, Sera and Dorian are the best trio to bring along, IMO.

Dorian can't be a bad choice. This guy really has a sense of humor.

So far I've taken Dorian, Cassandra, Vivienne, Bull, and Varric. Dorian went the second time as well for the dance and because I drag him everywhere with me. Honestly, everyone has more or less a similar amount of content. It doesn't matter a whole lot, although I agree that I expected a lot more out of Vivienne since this was her element. I was also half-hoping she'd refuse to go because she wouldn't want to be seen at court in that red uniform.

 

Anyway, I agree that you should just take your LI, if it's not Cullen or Josephine since they're there anyway, and the two companions you like the most.

Just don't forget you have to fight, so bring a party that will actually keep you alive. Bringing companions you haven't used much or properly outfitted may harm you on higher difficulties.

I felt a lot of disdain towards 'The Game' so I took who I thought would be the most scandalous. Sera, Dorian and Bull as my strapping date. I'd take your LI. Dorian has some good stuff. Sera unlocks a minor quest. In a prior playthrough I did take Vivienne who I thought would be likely to have extra dialogue and interaction, but she doesn't. In that playthrough I also took Blackwall, but he's totally nonplussed and stoic about the whole thing.

I was also curious about this but he is "forgotten" and not mentioned by the announcer at all. And hanging out in one of the restricted zones.

 

And indeed Sera brings a minor sidequest, courtesy of her "friends". Dorian is quite funny. As is Bull.
