Are the Templars considered prisoners when you conscript them?

You get Ser Barris's mission if you ally with the templars. What's important is that he survives Thereinfal

Here's an exhaustive list of what changes.

Enemies at Battle of Haven - If you ally with the templars, you fight the Venatori. The boss you fight at the Northern Trebuchet is Fiona. If you ally with the mages, you fight the Red Templars. The boss you fight at the Northern Trebuchet is Knight Captain Denam, as a Behemoth.

Talking to Krem gives a mission for the Chargers at the War Table. If you ally with the templars, you get a mission to investigate the time magic. If you ally with the mages, you get a mission to kill the Envy Demon

War table missions are given after reaching Skyhold. Allying with the mages sends you missions from Fiona, allying with the templars give you missions from Barris.

The general of the army changes. If you ally with the mages, it is Samson, who's sidequest is given to you by Cullen. If you ally with the templars, it is Calpernia, who's sidequest is given to you by Leliana.

The ending slides change based on who you recruit. Both groups can change based on if you ally or conscript them, and who the new Divine is. Templars are also emboldened by whether or not Cullen goes off of lyrium or not.

No, at the end of the quest, the Order is left leaderless and Barris/Fletcher says they will need time to rebuild, if you conscript them the Inquisitor says there is no time to rebuild and they should disband the Order and join the Inquisition, Barris/Fletcher ask the templars if they agree with you and they all get on their knees.

I am conscripting the mages but want Leliana to be the Divine. Any advice?

From what I saw you're out of luck. Conscripted mages equal Cassandra or Vivienne in every case I've seen or heard about.

From what I gather, the differences aren't too obvious in game save for maybe some ambient dialog, approval of companions and some dialog amongst companions.

It apparently affects who becomes Divine though, and I imagine conscription vs. freedom also affects the epilogue slides.

More than likely it will have a greater impact on subsequent sequels, at least where the new Divine is concerned. Maybe not crazy, far-reaching impact but something more in line of who currently rules in Ferelden, etc.

I got Leliana as my Divine in my first play through, and I allied with the Mages. Leliana is for the most reform and very much a propellant of mage freedom. So if you want her as Divine you will probably need to ally and not conscript the mages.

No, you just need another big decision which supports her to balance it out. Like supporting Briala at the winter palace.

You don't get the Ser Barris war table missions if you disband the Templars. It also tips Leliana into poll position for the Divine but won't on it's own guarantee she gets it.

Conscripting the Mages also helps open up the possibility of making Vivienne the Divine.

Thats about it.

I actually made Vivienne Divine on a playthrough where I supported (not conscripted) the Templars.  So conscripting the mages isn't the only way.

You still get Ser Barris' missions if you conscript them(I did)

Who becomes Divine in the end is still ultimately your decision but whether you conscript or ally with Mages or Templars affects the ending.

I havnt, 2 times i have conscripted them and i have not gotten his missions. He was alive in both, as i can see him under my agents list. I have no idea why this is happening.

Nothing important really. A couple of war table missions that doesn´t have any impact on the game, who do you judge after the mission that again doesn´t have any impact on the game, if there are mages or templars in the cutscene of closing the rift which doesn´t affect the game and wheter there is Fiona or Delrin to speak with in Skyhold, again, it doesn´t have any real impact on the game. And last, the only real impact: wheter you face Samson (side with mages) or a Venatori mage (side with templars) as a boss in the elven temple main quest.

You *might* be able to get Leliana as Divine if you

- Recruit the Grey Wardens and do not exile them

- Allow Florianne to execute Celene and then give Briala control over Gaspard

- Avoid telling Vivienne that mages belong in the Chantry

- Take every opportunity to say that the Chantry is broken and will never work

- Choose the Support Leliana War Table operation

But odds are good that you're going to be stuck with Vivienne. I'm in the same boat, this playthrough. This is *not* going to be my favorite import worldstate.

The only sure fire way to avoid Viv as Divine that I have heard of is to simply not recruit her

I am not sure if there is a different outcome based on Allying and Conscripting but you have to go with the mages and not the Templars. I think another factor in Leliana becoming Divine is "softening" her by not letting her murder the agent they find out is a traitor in Haven and by telling her not to kill Natalie in the side quest to see what Divine Justinia left for her. I think there is also another mission where she is talking to a scout in Skyhold where you have to tell her to not kill someone.

I didn't want to necro this topic, but I wanted to add some information. I had a playthrough where I allied with the templars, supported Briala/Celene reunting, softening Leliana, and not opting to do any special table missions to give support to anyone. The end result was Leliana as Divine. I had even stated that mages should be placed into circles and that the rebels were apostates to Vivienne. But I also gave positive feedback to Leliana when she talked to me about being divine. I also had another where I allied with mages, and supported Celene alone with Gaspard executed, and ended up with Cassandra due to doing her war table mission. So I'm not sure how it is calculated, but clearly there is plenty of wiggle room.
