Grinding the maps and encountering enemies, thinking to myself: "Whoa...this feels familiar..." 50hrs in I realize: "OMG,I'm playing FFXII again!"
Just me? Anyone else?

Yes, that's lik 80% of the content of the game.
My advice : do only the open maps areas (the ones without the green icon on them) then gather the level and power you need for advancing the story (green map icon)
Because many people made testemonie that clearing all open world areas didn't brough them any atisfaction/reward or had any interesting story content (unless you like to read codex).
But for my part, i will probably do only 1 run by completing everything and never make a reroll.
Nope. Back when I played FF12 I remember thinking "Square have done a Bioware game".
Nope, can't be FFXII, that had a full tactics system. ![]()
Sorry, couldn't help myself. Yeah, FFXII (like most final fanatsy games) had a horrible ratio of map exploring/fighting to plot and in some areas it can feel like a déjàvu. But FFXII was way worse in that regard -- and I say that as someone who liked FFXII. If you start to feel like you're playing FFXII, it's probably time to stop map exploring and advance the plot, I'd say.

You thought square made a bioware game 10 years ago?

In the middle of the last decade, Bioware was being taunted for their linear/story oriented approach to games. Like Square Enix. I've come across the comparison here and there.
It's amusing to see now that Bioware have made an Open World game they're STILL being compared to Square Enix...

But spend more time hating on the game on the forums than actually playing most likely.. What drives you to finish even one playthrough when almost every post I've seen you make (well literally every post) has been you saying how bad one or another aspect of the game is.

Completionist drive or eternal optimism.
... or masochism really. ![]()

It is, and its glorious! THIS is the game that I've been looking for and waiting for since FF12, and I mean that truely. That game, from Square, was my all time favorite RPG (yes more than 7) up until this point. As much as I love Skyrim, with no party, it felt lonely a lot of the time. DA:I is just the best of both worlds. 60 hours in, with huge amounts seemingly left to do and explore, I'm in heaven. The first two DA games were great, but just felt small. This one is huge. The party members are great.
Favorite game of the decade! Absolutely living up to expectations, and mine were sky high.
Not going to lie, I love FFXII. Balthier is still one of my all time favorite characters! With that aside, I don't see too many similarities between the two titles. FFXII was a true sandbox game with (in my opinion) a better AI setup. I actually thought DA:O was more similar to FFXII in that they both had the illusion of an open world when in reality they were both sandbox games with a linear story path. Both very solid games. I like DA:I more though ![]()
FF12 turned into a game of mashing a button and switching paradigm for me. Bored me into trading the game in after about 50 hours. They'll never make another FF7. That is, ofcourse, unless the make another FF7. Then all other games will be obsolete.
As for DA;I, Combat, party, quests, world, everything just 'fits' for me. Its no FF7 but its bloody good!
--Edit-- I do mean FF12-2. Not FF12, my bad.

I can totally see the similarities. I prefer the leveling system in Inquisition over FF12 any day. Almost 100 hours into FF12 and 80 of those hours were spent trying to level my party up. It takes forever! It has a great story and I think the best script of any Final Fantasy game. Balthier and Fran rock. ![]()
I'd like less sidequests in the next Dragon Age game. The large world is beautiful and nice to explore but most of the quests it's filled with are bland and boring.
I can see the similarities to FFXII, but there is one huge difference that makes DAI superior: the random factor is toned way down.
I need to go hunt that special animal for a quest? It's gonna be in the designated area no matter what time it is on the clock or how many other ennemies I did/didn't kill. And it's always going to drop that item I need. Thank goodness!
Loot chests are always in the same spot and there is no penalty for opening a chest somewhere that cuts you off from the best weapon in the game in an optional area.
The focus abilities are reliable. If I use 'thousand cuts' I get 'thousand cuts'. No more running out of time and messing up my chain. Curse the concurrences!
I liked FFXII, but the random factor was too high.

There is no FF12-2. You're thinking of FF13. ![]()

You're right, but we are eight years and two generations of consoles later. Nice to finally have a valid sucessor.
Nope. Back when I played FF12 I remember thinking "Square have done a Bioware game".
Heh, when I played FF12 I thought I was playing FF11 offline.
I can see the similarities, but at least FF12 has gambits/tactics.

I liked the game, but the characters were blah, and the license board made all characters the same after a certain level, unless you stopped unlocking stuff, but then again you need to get to certain areas of the board to access passives.
But the combat/tactics setup was great; the best character development system SE made in the FF series was X in my opinion; loved the sphere grid.
EDIT: another thing I like better from FF than DA, is leveling through grinding. Leveling in DA is quest related, you get negligeable XP for defeating enemies. In XII, when you found the perfect combo of gambits and high XP/high respawn area, you could spend 2h in an area until you got OP and move to the next one. One of my early favorite was the mine in the floating city (where you meet the Marquis); the skeletons were gold and respawned a lot.
There is no FF12-2. You're thinking of FF13.
Yeah, wasn't sure he meant 13 because of Paradygm, which was an awful game.
First one I didn't finish.
Strange, because I can't get past freeing Basch on FF12 yet I'm on my second full playthrough of this. Hm.
NO, because t DA:I is actually fun and FF12 made me hate gaming.
Nope, can't be FFXII, that had a full tactics system.
I'm just here because FFXII is cool and I'm glad other people have played it.
Carry on.
Imagine if Inquisition had something similar to the Yiazmat battle. Now THAT would be impossible without tactics.
No wonder I like DAI so much. I haven't played FFXII in years. Something to do with a Jumbo Flan in a sewer that kept throwing status ailments my way. Oh, and the license board! Ohhhh.... I still have my PS2. :-)
