I am happily part of the 39% non-human players, thank you very much.
Unfortunately our 39% is spread across 3 different races and around 2/3 of those are female elves.

58% female so far.
Human Male, and a Warrior at that.
I wanted to make it a Dalish gal, since the Solas romance story actually sounds fairly plot relevant and intriguing (while the others seem more to be just sort of a side dish), but I still can't get past the running animation (doubly problematic for the S&S Warrior I want to play, since it waves my sword around a good couple of feet every step...I'm afraid of taking someone's leg off!). Might retry that character as a blades rogue later on, though.
But for now, I'm enjoying my buys-his-own-hype Trevelyan.
I thought every person ever was going to play (fem) qunari so I decided to be all hipstery and go (fem) elf.
I've never been so wrong in my life lol omfg.
Well ok this is only half true, because female elves just looked great and female qunari customization options were just really poor, esp. on the hair department and lack of tattoos.

Another poll! Thanks Teddie, these are fun. Human male here. I would have done Qunari if there were body sliders. I don't care for playing muscle men, but I also don't care for how slender elves are.
You're welcome. I decided to make a total of three polls, doing more would kill me.
Just completed my first play through as an elven female who romanced Solas. Um, yeah, you know how that went. My heart is like...wtf just happened to me. Very good first play through but definitely not for the faint of heart. It's such an emotional roller coaster!
My next playthrough will be either my lady Qunari or my lady dwarf. Slightly leaning toward my Qunari.
I played as Alysana Lavellan, a dalish, elven, female mage.

We finally get our ability to not be human again, and people still prefer human. In a fantasy game, that for once lets you play something other then a typical human. *shrugs* Ah well...to each their own.
Voted with my male elf. Sending my love to the dwarf players, though.

Seriously though, the dwarves results make me sad.
Elf female
Male qunari mage here. Must say I'm really surprised there aren't more people who played qunari their first time, as there seemed to be a lot of hype and excitement for that.
Those with the most romance options wins

Basically the female elf.

The thing is, they're all human in the end, except for cosmetic differences, and so people go with the aesthetically comfortable, which is human. Apart from the aesthetics, the only interesting thing about being a non-human in DAI is to see how the game world reacts to it. In any other respect, you play non-human if the given background is compelling. So yes, playing as a non-human is interesting, but for many, not compelling enough that you'd play one in your first playthrough.
Human Female Mage for me. I never understood the whole fuss about non-human races, they are never my first choice, whether or not its a "fantasy" game or not. Just don't like dwarves and most elves are..well
Well, I play now a second char parallel, a female elf rogue. And damn I really made her look kinda awesome, so ignore the above ^^ And probably a third palythrough might see a Qunari female warrior, teaming up with Bull? Might be interesting.

So human 60ish%, elf 25ish% (might have been more if the male elves were not so messed up and THEY NEED PATCHING), qunari 10ish%, dwarves 5ish%.
Dwarves need more player lub. Maybe Qunari do too. Elves seem fine. Humans are a little higher than I'd have wanted (40-50% ideally).
If only dwarves could romance Scout Harding.
I went for female Elf!
Partly because I really liked playing as a Dalish for this game, and also because I cannot for the life of me make a half-way decent looking male Inquisitor, of any race, EVER.

I have a feeling that it's not quite as skewed as this suggests. Yes, humans are still probably the most popular, followed by elves, then qunari, then dwarves. But it might not be so wide of a distribution if we look at all of the playthroughs (not just the first one). It's why I made the poll in this thread (http://forum.bioware...ur-inquisitors/).
And, to be honest, it's defintely different. In the poll in this thread, there are 561 votes and 9 of them are for female dwarves, meaning that only 2% of that poll's respondents played female dwarves first. But in the poll in the other thread, there are only 164 votes so far and already 10 of them are for female dwarves, meaning that 6% of the respondents played female dwarves at some point. That's almost three times the percentage already and it has only 1/3 the votes so far.
