Alright, I'm not sure if an important plot point simply went over my head as this was going on, and so now I turn to you all for some answers.

In this particular run, Morrigan drank from the well. Cory appears. The party scrambles into the eluvian. And then, this happens:

Spoiler

That thing springs up from the well and smashes against the eluvian. I also noticed that the Inquisitor was glowing blue through all of this for some reason.

Does anyone know what it's supposed to be? Any insight on its relevance to the story/lore?

That...is....odd. I don't recall seeing it, which means if it was there, it went past too fast to have an impact. That makes me think it's not important, but I could be wrong.

Nonetheless, I get the impression it won't be long until a dozen conspiracy theories about this image and its "hidden meaning" have sprung up.

I got that too.

If it means anything, in this run Morrigan drank from the well, and she previously had an OG baby with the Warden.

Happened to me as well, Morrigan also had the Old God Baby, but I (human warrior) drank from the well instead.

I watched several videos of the scene on YouTube. It seems to be that it's the same figure that appears each time, at least.

This is really strange... Inquisitor glows, looks at the well, doesn't do anything fancy. I have no idea.

Well considering your at the temple of Mythal it could be her 'spirit' denying Corypheus the power of the well. It could have also been her 'spirit' just followed the wielder of the wells power through the mirror. Or maybe both, which is my guess.

There is another option but I forgot how to use the spoiler button so just go to my 'crazy' theory thread for that one.

I had that happen too, but my Morrigan does not have the OGB or any baby for that matter. So I think it happens for anyone at the Well. Morrigan drank, they go through, Quizzie glows and the figure does it's thing briefly.

Presumably it's Mythal.

It looks to be a naked human female model, also blonde. Mythal or Andraste?

The inquisitor glowing even if Morrigan drank from the well is probably a bug.

I'm pretty sure that if Morrigan drank from the Well she's supposed to be glowing instead of the Inquisitor. And the water sprite is either a 'piece' of Mythal or one of her guardians.

I kind of just went with guardian of the Well, myself, when I saw it. *shrug*

Exactly, not everything has to be divine providence.

Corypherous was blasted to bits by Elven magical tesla coils.

Since Corypherous clearly went with bad intent, he probably tripped the Well's defences, or maybe it was Morrigan/our Inquisitor that activates them as he activates the Eluvian.

Hell, that elven figure could have been a spirit send to talk with whoever drinks it, but instead didint had time to do so.

Had that happen to me.  Having a naked lady rise out of the water and fly through the Eluvian was an unexpected, but not unwelcome, surprise.

I'm starting to think that as well. Or, possibly an effect of the anchor, elven magic and all?

...

1. best guess:
The inquisitor glowing I took that to be a bug, the water spirit from the well, I took that to be the soul of the well who is now partially merged to the person who drank of the well. Who is the one that should have been glowing.

2. Occam's razor (The principle states that among competing hypotheses, the one with the fewest assumptions should be selected. Other, more complicated solutions may ultimately prove correct, but—in the absence of certainty—the fewer assumptions that are made, the better)

The Inquisitor glowing - most likely a bug
the Well having a humanoid spirit visible after Morrigan and the Inquisitor go through the mirror. Odds are it was the spirit of the well.

Impact on Lore is simple, the person who drank of the well now has the Knowledge of a 1000 elvin lifetimes, and they are bound to the will of Mythal

Well, I guess it was good that the watery tart didn't throw a sword at us.

That having been said, doesn't it have Morrigan's hairstyle?

I think it had the short ponytail hairstyle. Confused the hell out of me because my Inquisitor had the same hairstyle AND hair color as the watery tart, as you put it.

So I guess it's safe to say that nothing within the confines of DAI's story can explain this phenomenon concretely just yet?

Annnnd that makes perfect sense, because supposedly Morrigan is the spitting image of the young Flemeth.

Er, just to jump in with my two crazy cents here:

It's almost certainly a piece of/spirit servant of Mythal herself.  The same water-spirit-rising thing happens in the Fade, if you'll recall.

Not to dig too deep into speculation, but the ancient elven rulers/gods seem to have "flavors".  Solas'Herel's powers, for example, have the most to do with power over the Fade.  (His orb, his mask, etc, etc)

Flemythal's particular domain is water.  Not too big a stretch to assume it's her fondness for "gentle" interference at work in both cases.

Since this is becoming another speculation central I'd like to point out a couple of things relating to Corypheus and probably Mythal or some other Elvhen deity.

Corypheus mentions that when he entered the Golden City it was already Blackened and instead of hearing the Maker's shout (paraphrasing the Chant of Light here) he only heard "dead whispers".

You know who else hear's "dead whispers" when they drink from the Well of Sorrows? The Inquisitor.

So was an Elvhen deity responsible for all of this? I don't know, but it's something to think about.
