That doesn't appear to be wearing a fake beard? I really would like my character to have one of those beards with the pointy mustache (the Dorian ), as I think it really fits an inquisitor. But I can't make it look like it's actually in the character face (oh how I envy thee, Blackwall) ... So... Any tips?

What do you think of this? Does that qualify as a decent beard? If it does I can give a few pointers...

It is quite good. I can see if it has my main issue (beard not attached to face) though. Anyway, pointers are always appreciated.

Its all attached to the face, thankfully, I worked hard and restarded quite a few times for that. It's not quite perfect for the strip under the lip, but it doesn't really show up ingame.

I started with the original human face (preset 1). Then I changed the facial architecture one tick to the right. It looks like a longer, slightly pointier face. What you want to do to fill in the gaps around the beard is to make the jaw almost as wide as it can go, (I settled around 80%) Make the chin as wide and as low as you can. Same with the jowls. Jaw line you want to make it go as low as possible. For chin shape, I gave the character a slight underbite, and made the chin poke forward as much as possible. To ensure the character doesn't look fat, you want to go in cheek shape and curve the cheeks inward rather than outward.

Mouth would be lowered to its lowest, the nose would be lowered closer to the mustache (and made bigger), the eyes would also be lowered.

Sorry I don't have sliders, I saw this thread after I made the character. Hopefully this, at least, helps out a little bit. :s

This shows the beard is pretty well attached

Thanks, mate. Even After several trials I was unable the achieve a satisfying look. But your advice did help. Went with mustache instead.

The full beards in this game are terrible. Too far below the nose, and when viewing your character from behind you can see that they don't actually connect to the face, giving the impression of novelty joke shop beards.

novelty joke shop beards.

lol.

To be fair, even default Hawke had this problem from some angles in DA2... and that was a custom character from the developers (I mean, they probably built the face with better tools).

I've made two males with beards. I found the sliders that need the most working with are jawline, cheeks, and mouth position. You just gotta play around with it. If your face is too skinny/thin it looks like he has hair plugs on his face.

Beards and facial hair are pretty bad in this game. I thought it might be better on next-gen / PC but it still look pretty terrible.

Yeah, I'd like to use a moustache + goatee to make an Errol Flynn-esque dude, but they're separate from his face AND an unkempt mess.

The facial hair on humans is broken. It's all set too low on the face model. The only reasons I can assume is that they had even worse clipping issues with having it in the right place, the play testers had never seen a beard before or everyone at Bioware plays as a female.

Any which way it's had to be just stubble for me :( (not even the choice for side burns anymore....)
