This was my first attempt at running keeper solo in threatening with my new build, and even have 1 skill point unused during this run.

Apparently I was doing so well that at 16:25 the Demon Commander just up and ragequits! GG!

Level 20 unique staff of the void with 10% chance to proc walking fortress for 2 seconds.  I have that staff.

In the keeper thread, you were praising veilstrike.  Now granted I didn't watch every single second of the video, but for the many different parts I saw, you never used it.  I am sure EB would've shaved off 2-5 minutes off the run with the added dps.

the first post i made talking to you (before your first response to me) i actually mentioned how i was going to do some runs with the last skillpoint unused while deciding where to put it - this was the first of those runs (literally the first solo run after hitting 20)

so at the time, i just had veilstrike slotted simply because it was the only 4th active i had.

a few runs later is when i put the remaining point in its upgrade and started to really like the ability.

initially this was just a test run where i was going to examine my weaknesses and use that to decide where to put said last skill point.

but then the DC ragequitting turned the run into something else entirely.

Ah, ok.  Still why upload this video :)?  Should've did a real run with the up'd VS.  I would like to see its effectiveness because I personally still prefer killing a big target or any target for that matter faster than having that control in solo threatening.  Also granted, my opinion is skewed by the fact that my staff can proc VS so that's another huge reason why I prefer EB.

lol i have the other videos post-upgraded VS recorded, just not uploaded yet.

and while VS is fine for threatening or even perilous -groups-, i think that EB might be necessary for perilous solo. the increased mob HP results in a lot more pressure to kill fast.

which staff is pyre of the forgotten?

my gear is far from spectacular...+10 magic neck, 5% attack ring, 5% crit ring, 10% magic resist belt, Staff of the Void (ilvl 20 unique, 147dps)

im probably going to promote and test EB in place of Veilstrike like Reginald has been suggesting (quite vehemently =P) in which case i'll probably replace my 5% attack ring with my EB ring (crit is the higher value of the two, right?)

I have that staff and it's a pos when compared to other staves of similar ilvl and quality.  It has no special mod and it has stats allocated to worthless AP and barrier dmg bonus.  Compared to other staves like my VS staff or Vividos' walking fort staff, these have similar dps to the Forgotten BUT +35 or so magic.

and @ Vividos,

It's just a friendly push to try EB.  Not trying to shove it down your throat by any means :P

its a lvl 21 unique staff, it has like 2 more dps than staff of the void and a base like +25% attack and 11-12% barrier+armor pierce i think from memory. What is EB btw? My normal staff attack dmg fluctuates greatly. Lowest is 90 dmg(not including rune) to about 160 a hit.  I'm curious cause your damage is a lot more consistent.

so what staff is best for raw dps?

Toss up between Fury of the veil vs Staff of the void.  On paper, Staff of void is more raw dps according to the equipment spreadsheet https://docs.google....#gid=1884891229

Void has 66 elec dmg w/ 36 magic and 6 attack compared to Fury's 68 elec dmg but only 25 magic.  And then the 2% Veilstrike proc vs 10% walking fort.

Sadly there isn't an ilvl23 unique staff with something insane like pull of the abyss proc (like the greatsword).

cant really say why thats happening with your base attacks, but as far as abilities go - i always try to cast my dps abilities AFTER barrier because of the passive that makes you do more damage when your mana is lower.

barrier will take you to half mana which is a 25% damage boost onto chain lightning or EB (energy barrage) if you cast it immediately after

stormbringer and frost step also hit fairly hard.

honestly, im not all that impressed with my walking fort proc. 2 seconds isnt long enough to make a noticeable difference.

but the damage is nice ><

EB is Energy barrage.  Each projectile from the spell has a chance to proc the weapon's special.

the 25% attack on pyre is the equivalent of +50 magic isnt it? 1 magic = 0.5% attack.

i did some testing then with pyre vs staff of the veil and pyre outdamaged it by 5 damage on average on a normal attack. + it has more base weapon damage which is better for skills

so if i go ahead and promote again to swap in EB instead of VS, how important would you say the upgrade is for EB?

in order to get the upgrade i think i'd have to drop stormbringer, which would also leave me with 1 additional floater point...or i could keep stormbringer and just have the base version of EB

(i REALLY like stormbringer...><)

I haven't bothered testing the impact of improved EB like just exactly how long it lasts for comboing with CL/Fadestep.  Prob just stick with storm esp since you love it.

yeah i wish it said what its duration was =/

and when ive had it slotted before i couldnt tell a noticeable difference.

one thing ive noticed already though, weakened + shocked = sleep + EB = nightmare is frickin awesome
