Which one is better? For RP, I think a Qunari would favor the Knight. It's a Fantasy Jedi basically. But Rift Mage casts so many spell with the Fire Passives that it isn't even funny. It makes feel like a spell slinger through and through.

If you want to play a real mage, go Rift. I am playing a Rift Mage Qunari on Nightmare, 75 hours in and having a blast. KE is just meh gameplay-wise and in terms of DPS I bet they are at the same level, though Rift is way more fun.

Also, why would a Qunari favor KE, a traditional human school of magic?

To be honest, you can RP any race/class/spec so just go with what you please. Rift Mage is a more scholarly spec so if your qunari is one who left the Qun because it interfered with his studies, then that will be the choice. If your Qunari only struck off on his own because he wanted freedom but otherwise embraced the discipline and martial culture of the Qun, then go for KE.

The important thing to remember is that so long as the headcanon makes sense to you, do whatever the game allows you to do.

I had planned for my Qunari to be a Rift Mage. When it came to choosing, the K.E tutor described the spec exactly as what my character would have gone for, so I had to choose it.

Not sure how well a support/debilitator K.E will work, but hey, i'm on normal difficulty, so doesnt matter lol

knight echanter they fit it more qunari smash, also male qunari are too big for staffs it makes it look little sticks or wands.
