What a good build for Legionnaire?  Should I get Unbowed or War Cry?

Counterstrike, Walking fort, warcry, whatever depending on situation like for perilous shield wall otherwise payback for easy farm runs .  Rotate the 3 defensive skills correctly, you should never die.

I personally run:

Shield Wall, War Cry, Unbowed, Walking Fortress.

Logic: It doesn't die. Unbowed and Shield Wall are my main Guard generators, and Walking Fortress is my emergency "Get out of jail free" card, IF it starts to look like things are getting bad.

If I could have more slots, I'd use Challenge and Counterstrike, but I don't.

I run both of these on my Legionnaire. Shield wall, walking fortress, unbowed, war cry. With good gear you can tank anything.

Reason for counterstrike over unbowed is because the issue isn't legion dying.  Its mobs running past you and killing your mates.  Sure you can slow down the run and have a ranged pull around the corner and wait for mobs to come then warcry or you can just run in and counterstrike when needed.  Also with the passive cutting words 20% more dmg for taunted mobs, counterstrike's 6 second taunt speeds up the run even more.

I've been wanting to mess around with To the Death on the Katari and Dwarf. What's the smart / effective way to use TtD?

Put it on hard-to-kill enemies and on some of the commanders. Every attack on them gives you 25% guard. They take 50% more damage every 10 seconds, but also do 50% more.

I agree with this though would like to say Payback Strike is absolutely amazing even for noneasy runs.  I often find my primary cause of death is getting knocked down while Walking Fortress is down and I have both Warcry and Counterstrike up.  If I could only stand up and use a guard builder/defensive steroid...  Payback Strike is amazing for situations like this, which happen to me all the time in Perilous.

If you are doing Threatening and Perilous, Warcry and Counterstrike are nearly mandatory with the passive that makes your taunted targets take more damage, and they both give you an immense amount of Guard. Pair that up with Walking Fortress, and you are incredibly hard to kill.

The 4th slot is generally a preference thing. I prefer Payback Strike since it is good, but that is just my choice. There are other alternatives which are decent, but I would claim that the 3 skills above will make you able to dive into a group, control it, and live while your group murder it.

It's all about the combat roll.

But seriously combat roll is alright and it's so very cute when the legionnaire does it!

My most succesful build it is

Stonewall

Payback

Warcry

Walking Fortress

proof of concept (level 19 threatening solo)

I have tried Counter strike but it is too down in its tree for being truly viable, don't give you armour bonuses so the guard can last a split second after being shoot by every archer in the area and I can't live without stonewall. Counter is crap against archers and ranged attackers in general that are the legion´s bane.

I have yet to replace stonewall with the roll.

I run with payback strike (for some extra damage and knockdown), war cry (for spamming taunt and extra guard), walking fortress (you are practically invulnerable) and shield wall (if you know how to use it you will actually rarely take any damage). On my threatening runs I usually dont even loose any health. It is still possible to **** up though if you dont know what you are doing. I have not tried legionnaire on perilous yet, so you might need to be a bit more defensive there, but with a good team you should be fine - I have to try it.

This is bad advice if you are playing with a squad. Counterstrike is for taunting every(!) enemy on the screen and keeping the heat off your damage dealers while you're tanking for the team. The guard you get from it is a bonus. And what does being far down the tree have to do with anything? That's like saying Firestorm isn't viable because it is too far down the tree. Absurd.

You don't know what you're talking about. You only have limited skillpoints so they're very precious. Laugh at all these reavers using rampage and dragon-rage I didn't waste my points and picked up challenge instead. With combat roll and block it's really viable!

Viable for who? Not for your team who grabs all the aggro you should have taken because you have a crappy single target taunt. WTF are you talking about?  Counterstrike taunts every enemy on the screen. No one on the team takes damage because all the enemies target the tank.

War cry is area of effect taunt. I use that one instead of counterstrike, atleast on threatening because I dont need more honestly. I make sure I'm always ahead of the group so that I get the original aggro, and when they circle me I pop war cry which I also can use quite often, due to CD passive and amulet. I dont really think I need counterstrike, but maybe on Perilous just to make sure. Other than that I do NOT agree that a skill isnt viable just because its far down the skill tree.

I use War Cry, Unbowed, Walking Fortress and To The Death.

I cycle them and practically never run out of guard. I used to have Shield Wall instead of To The Death, but I found the latter more useful for bosses and priority targets, and it lets me build guard quickly while keeping them away from my teammates.

I cant tell if you are serious or not... Are you saying that rampage and dragon rage isnt good? Honestly there is nothing that melts mobs quicker then rampage + dragon rage combo. With my Sulevin Blade it is just silly. I've seen reavers drop rampage and dragon rage, and it just does not work, and cant even be compared. Its actually quite embarrasing. Combat roll and block? Sure, with dragon rage and rampage everything is dead before you finished your first roll. And after the battle the rampage + dragon rage player is left with full health.... while you maybe have half health and a point of guard?? And funny thing is, you have the full skill set on level 7 without upgrades, so one run on threatening with your level 1 promoted reaver and your good to go again. If you run on threatening, i'd say almost every passive is optional.

See?

That guy was talking about Challenge which is single target. I use Warcry and Counterstrike.  I open with Counterstrike to draw everything to me and then follow up with Warcry to keep them focused on me and refill my guard. Counterstrike is a better opener because it has an unlimited AOE. Once they are on top of you War Cry keeps them there.
