A lot of people don't seem to realize this so here is how it goes :

  • If there is a stone pedestal under the chest, it is going to spawn an Arcane Horror or a Revenant. If not, you can safely open it.
  • If there is a stone pedestal under the chest in the first treasure room of the map, zombies will spawn.
  • If enemies are already present in the treasure room (spiders or not) the chest won't be trapped.

This will hopefully help players open rooms separately and tell each other which ones are trapped, instead of wasting time going in all of them one by one.

Excellent.  I was hoping that it would be more of a surprise at some point.

also, great to see other devs chiming in on the forums.

Glad to hear the news about bullet point one being outdated. The chests should be a surprise when they are opened.

First rule of treasure rooms is to ensure at least one player totally ignores all the 'over here's!' from their team mates and launches aggro on a spawn and then runs back to the treasure room because they are being overwhelmed leading 27 archers into the room the team is battling the Revenant in.

Ahah this so true ! I also think the decision making associated with the risk of opening a chest is non-existent since players would rather die than miss a chest. But at least it will be random now.
