I've looked through all of the common files for ME1 and can't see anything related to saved game data. Anybody have any ideas?

They're in the documents and settings\\your account name\\my documents\\bioware\\mass effect\\save folder.
Depending on OS it might be elsewhere but in general My Documents\\BioWare\\Mass Effect\\Save

I don't know about xbox 360 but on pc the endgame character saves are named something like "Char_01-42-1-1-0-4-6-2008-25-8.MassEffectSave"
Try looking in the old forums: http://meforums.biow....html?forum=124
thats the old xbox 360 tech support forum try digging through the topics there. Perhaps someone has asked already.

Says you need to run the ME2 configuration utility though I'm not exactly sure how to access it via a Steam download.

To access the configuration utility through steam simply double Mass Effect 2 in your "My Games" window. A secondary window will pop up giving you options to Launch Mass Effect 2, Mass Effect 2 Launcher, and View Support Information. Selecting "Mass Effect 2 Launcher" and clicking Launch will bring up the launcher where you can select Configure.

\\steam\\steamapps\\common\\mass effect 2\\binaries\\masseffect2config.program.should.be.here.exe
Just guessing here since I have steam version of ME 1. But its probably something like that if ME 2 follows the same structure.

I run my ME1 off of steam but i want to import my characters to ME2 (which i run from the cd) for some reason i can't find any of my ME1 characters. When i go to the Doc/My doc/bioware folder, i can see the Save folder but i can't go inside it to select my characters....any suggestions?

I too have the same issue- found my Save folder fpr ME1 in documents -but pointing to this and clicking to import does nothing... ( purchased my ME1 disc - NOT on steam).
Any thoughts from the collective hive mind would be appreciated

I am also unable to import any ME1 characters anymore. I imported 2 prior to patch 1.01, and it worked perfectly. Now I have 2 more ME1 characters I'd like to import, but ME2 doesn't seem to recognize them now. I've rerun the config utility multiple times, tried manually copying the Char_ files to the ME2\\save\\ME1 folder, but so far nothing has worked.
So... Why doesn't ME2 recognize any of my ME1 save games anymore?

Well, found the problem with my save games. I'm not sure how it happened, but apparently when they were copied from the ME1 save folder to the ME2 save folder, an extra character was added to the end of the file name. So the file extension was .masseffectsave' instead of just .masseffectsave. Renamed the files and they work fine now.
