Varric is terrible how do I upgrade Bianca? If I buy or craft the upgrades do they automatically get on Bianca? I'm curious because Bianca never appears on the modify weapon screen and I assume he doesn't have the upgrades since he's level 11 doing only 20 damage on enemies.

Second question what skills and stats allow a duel wield rogue to increase damage?

Varric just seems to be terribad to me in DAI, which is a shame because he was really BA in DA2. If his bow would level up with him at the very least like it did in DA2, he'd be far better off. For now you have to find and buy and craft upgrades for Bianca which in my experience aren't easy to find so far when I can just build a basic bow for Sera that almost always outperforms. At least for now, I am sure after you beat the game a few times and find the set spawn points for Bianca upgrades, it'd be a bit easier to use him.

While on the weaponmodifying scren just switch to varric (arrows at upper right corner) and bianca will show as a modifiable weapon.

Varric is very, very powerful. You just need to spec him correctly and find the weapon mods that upgrade Bianca. Sure he isn't as powerful as that other Archer, Sera I believe her name is. But he makes up for that by not being annoying and having some awesome party banter.

Like I said before you need to find Bianca upgrades. The first few you can buy from the shops at early levels. Later on other shops will have more upgraded mods for him and the rest from that point on you need to find.

Here's a video of my Varric annihilating a level 20 Dragon. I could've done this from the start, but I wanted to see if this Dragon had any different moves compared to the other Dragons.

Skip to around the 3:35 mark to see him in action.

Buy Bianca schematics from Bonny Sims in Skyhold. They become available in tier 1, 2, and 3 variants as you progress through the main quest/do the trade war missions.

You'll also occasionally come across enhanced/masterwork Bianca recipes in the wild, but the basic ones you can buy are pretty good.

Craft awesome Bianca upgrades for him with a focus on crit and cunning and make him into a hard-hitting crit monster, which works very well with an archery/artificer/sabotage build. (And give him the two +20% crit damage rings when you find them. You know you want to. :P)

You change upgrades on Bianca the same way you do any other weapon or armour that is currently in use by one of your team by using the left/right arrows to navigate to Varric when you are in the upgrade menu at the upgrade station, and then selecting Bianca from the list when he's chosen.

Varric is probably the single best of the rogue companions when left under AI control assuming he's specialized properly to take advantage of his archery and team support*), and assuming that there's at least one other member of the team that has a high crit%, since every team member that crits will reduce Varric's cooldown timers. The basic idea is to have Varric have as high a crit as possible for the 10 stamina per crit while having other team members frequently reducing all his cooldown times through crits, allowing him to spam his high damage archery attacks. It works very, very, well, so long as you don't do something silly like making him prioritize using his traps.

* You'll eventually want all of Archery, all of Artificer except the upgrades for the traps and the lantern - it is the artificer passives that makes this awesome, and the stamina/crit from Sabotage - later on you can fill up with poison weapons.
