I'm not sure if this has been brought up yet or not, but I think it's a pretty cool concept.

Having a hybrid class, like mage/warrior or rogue/warrior would be so awesome.

In Origins, they kinda went that way with the Arcane Warrior, allowing mages to use their magic attributes for strength.

Bioware could do a lot more with how Inquisition is designed.

There were enemies in the game that carried swords but no shield and relied on blocking and parrying. Why can't we, as the Herald, do something similar.

Maybe a mix with a rogue and warrior where the herald has a shield, but keeps it on the back, preventing flanking or taking less damage from behind, but his front is vulnerable and his abilities are about well timed counter attacks. This build would actually want to be flanked, add some depth to the strategies.

Maybe rogue and mage where after dealing a backstab the herald casts a hex so that next backstab is an instant kill (like soi fon) but leaves the herald open to attacks for a short duration. So it is only used in the most dire of situations. Obviously it won't wont on big things like dragons and whatever, but still.

Some holes in the ideas... i admit

Idk, just throwing ideas out there, curious what others think of and come up with.

Rogue's have Parry and 2-Hander Warriors have Block and Slash. They do exactly that AFAIK.

^ Those are one skill in class, the hybrid's would specialize in those moves, but yeah, I see your point, I found my rogue herald needing to use parry since my tanks sucked at being tanks.

Like, the sword and shield have an ability that they just hold up their shields increasing their defense and whtnot, maybe a hybrid can do something similar where either defense increases or a percentage of damage is dealt back.

Yes yes, there are passive skills that do tht, but this would be an active skill with a greater percentage of damage returned.

That would be pretty cool actually.

One of my ideas for hybrid rogue/mage (I come up with random ideas for random stuff out of boredom sometimes):

Shadowbinder (mage/rogue)

Actives:

  • Swirling shadows. Consumes 5 mana/second and makes you invisible as long as you don't deal any damage. Dealing damage breaks stealth and starts cooldown. Activation is instant and cancels CC. Upgrade: Lurker - +5%damage for each second in stealth (max 50%). Lasts for 6 seconds after uncloaking. Looks like a dark aura surrounding the mage.
  • Whispers of Morpheus - AoE ranged sleep for 10 seconds, Upgrade: Irresistible fatigue - enemies immune to sleep and enemies woken up before the end of duration are slowed by 50% instead,
  • Vision of death - -50% to all resistances and armor reduced to 0 on a single target for 10 seconds. Upgrade: Impending Doom - target takes 50% weapon damage (spirit) when hit.
  • Shadow Phantasm (focus) - Shadowy monstrous image appears over the battlefield. All regular enemies below the character level are immediately slain. Enemies at or above the character level are panicked and take heavy spirit damage. Their damage dealt is reduced by 10/20/30% and damage taken increased by 15%/30%/45%

Passives:
  • Shadow meditation - skill cooldown reduced by 20% when not taken damage in the last 5 seconds
  • Shadow rejuvenation - skill cost reduced by 20% when not taken damage in the last 5 seconds
  • Harness the nightmares - +5 mana/sec for each sleeping enemy in nearby radius
  • Dark passage - +50% movement speed when stealthed

^ It still looks like 95% Assassin, especially long-range AoE sleep, high armor penetration, and more Stealth.

I think this is a good idea for future DA games. They already kind of have this in Mass Effect, with Soldier/Adept/Engineer, and the other three classes are combinations of them.

I think this might be a fun idea on Multiplayer. Most of the characters there are already a combination of different skills. They don't have to come up with so many new skills to come up with new specializations.

Knight-Enchanter's the DA:I version of Arcane Warrior. It's a tanky warrior mage. And it also has a rogue like steath... timer sucks but eh.

Always liked the ability to multi class, be it in Guild Wars 1 or even in Pathfinder or other games.

WAs a bit dissapointed that their was no option to do so though, but i thouhg" ok gotta wait for a multi class mod like with DA 1 and 2", but since the game is unmoddable from what i've heard...

Would really liked to make a 2-handed warrior with the Reaver specialisation and Necromancy...
