Very Astute Review

Thank you for your accurate review! 9 hours in I can confirm everything that you stated. Even the story seems not only hackneyed but from a roleplaying perspective does not lend itself to credence belying the reactions of NPCs as well as the inherent (forced) motivations that the game enforces on your Shephard . It almost felt surreal having your Shephard so willingly acquiesing to instructions and requests (even after use of certain cosmetic dialogue choices). The overall narrative seems forced, the characters are caricatures, and even the voice acting seems stilted in comparison to the first game (yes even Jennifer Hale whose VA I adore - I play a female Shephard). Even the much touted graphics were un-compelling compared to the first game - my Shephard looked better in ME1; also (as the OP mentioned) it almost seemed that the contrast/gamma had been turned waaaay up in order to artificially create ambiance and shadows in order to attain that "dark and gritty" atmosphere.

Everything that needed to be said about the stripped down gameplay and the ammo mechanism has been said by the OP. "Streamlining" is indeed an euphemism for "dumbing down". This change was a travesty!

Bland and boring, uninspiring, overall I am hugely disappointed. It's very obvious from the onset that this game had a different development team compared to the original and they ruined what could have been (potentially) a great game by "reinventing the wheel".

I sort of feel the same way. Disillusioned.

Why does everyone **** about the Ammo System, I found it makes Combat more fun and me being a soldier it adds a good challenge.

Everybody really needs to lay off JKoopman (the OP). I haven't played the game yet myself, but he expressed his own subjective opinions on the game and it's valuable for people who haven't played yet (like myself).

Just because his opinions weren't positive (and in fact were pretty negative in some areas) doesn't make them any less valid. You can even disagree with his opinions, but personal attacks on JKoopman because he dared to express his thoughts is way out of line.

Like some others have said, what use is a forum where everybody has to praise the game blindly? Bioware doesn't get feedback and doesn't know what we don't like. Everybody should have the freedom to post their honest opinions (negative & positive) without fear of harassment or personal attacks.

Personally I was a huge fan of ME1 and am really looking forward to ME2 -- and JKoopman's post gives me some perspective before I play the game. And that's useful.

- ammo does no replenish after you return to the Normandy. I refuse to believe that operatives would go in battle with their ammo almost depleted (it happened to me a couple of times);

(regular weapon) ammo should replenish, if it doesn't you've found a bug!

I honestly don't undertsand your opinion OP, everything has been streamlined perfectly and that's bad?

You sound more like you're ranting over the fact that Bioware changed things over how good or bad the new features actually are.

HI-jacking.

Yes ME2 has improved a lot from ME1, still it feels like a console port.
My advice? Don't buy it on PC.

Wasn't ME1 a console port?

ME1 WAS a console port but they spent a good deal of time actually porting it to the PC, didn't release for a month or 2 after XBox so they could work out the interface bugs a bit, as I recall. Thanks for original post OP, I'll see if I agree with you tomorrow when my copy arrives (or maybe Thursday if it arrives late )

Just met up with Mordin for the first time. I have to say, I am impressed with everything so far. Combat is really good. There is a slight bug in some environments that won't allow me to aim around corners while in cover. I do kind of miss the old biotic Throw that instantly threw an enemy instead of waiting for a projectile to reach the target, and sometimes too late. The music is really great and more varying throughout the environments. Dialog is so much better. Facial animations have been tweaked for better. NPCs more responsive. Overall, I'm really happy with the game so far.

Thank you JKoopman for your comments. I agree with them completely. The HUD and the UI are a step back from ME1. And the voice acting is just awful. There is very little emotion - in the middle of firefights they all sound like they are sitting around a table having a cup of coffee. Compare Jennifer Hale with Claudia Black's work in Dragon Age: Origins for example, and there is no comparison. The wall safe Husker-Du puzzles, and the data pad matching text puzzles are just plain silly. Overall, I am very disappointed with the game.

My impression thus far is wonderful. The gameplay is great.

The only problem I have so far is that I can't read any of these big colorful things that keep flashing on the screen for a few seconds. I don't know if they're telling me what to do, or if they're accomplishments or tips.

That, and I keep hitting Y to heal myself as an instinct from ME1, and end up biotic charging into the middle of a battle :D

I swallowed a bug, once.

But seriously, the first 1/2 hour was insanely good!!!

I took a break to eat.

You ever have the "it's so good I am not even ready to load it up again" feeling?
I have that right now.

On the contrary, it seems like the people who like ME2 are on the hyper-defensive, since they so insist on insulting and deriding anyone who voices any negativity towards their beloved new game.

pot kettle black

Really? How so? Please show me where and how I've insulted anyone for having a positive opinion of ME2 in this or any other thread.

Bashing everyone of being "fanboys" for expressing their opinions on your opinion. The quote above you're basically accusing people of being hyper-defensive but yet you aren't? Please don't make me laugh.

"yo guise i think dis game is not dat good"
"yo man i disagree this game is real good stop being unreasonable man"
"yo ur me2 fanboy stop "liking" this game bro i hate it lololool raging in the internet so hurdcore!!"

That's what your thread rolls into basically.

Again, you put words in my mouth. Show me where I called anyone a fanboy who wasn't acting like a fanboy by attacking me for my opinion. Heck, show me where I called anyone a fanboy period.

I posted my opinion of Mass Effect 2 and all I've done since then is ellaborate on it, add to it, or defend my right to have it. At no point have I attacked anyone for having an opposing view.

What are you , like 5 years old(just kidding, you are probably 12-14 top)? They bought the game , they don't like it, and they are expressing it within their rights. Now, you (or i ) don't have to agree with them necessarily, but it's still far from trolling.

If anything barging into this thread and telling people to "crawl somewhere" sounds more like trolling to me than something even remotely intelligent or funny.

Now, thank you for cooperation

You know, not everyone who disagrees with you or voices a negative opinion is a "troll." That word gets thrown around FAR to often here.

if you don't agree with the status quo you are a troll, even though the op did a decent job explaining why he didn't like it.

Opinions != facts

Is ME2 perfect? no.

Is it as bad as all the complainers make it sound? to them maybe.

Do the majority of people enjoy it? yes.

You're arguing your own shadow. The OP never stated that her opinion was fact. The rest of your post is simply irrelevant.

After playing ME2 for a few more hours, I'd like to revise my opinion of the graphics. I still think the new lighting system is way too harsh and I don't like what it does to my characters, but after visiting Korlus and completing Zaeed's sidequest on Zorya I'll admit that environmental ambiance and detail is improved from ME1. Zorya in particular was gorgeous.

However, I think it would look even better under ME1's softer lighting. And interior settings are still a bit of a letdown
