I haven't romanced him.  I don't do angst well, but I really like his character.  A standout character in a cast of superlatives.  My Dalish felt he was a good mentor and friend and took his leaving in stride, never knowing the truth.  My human mage surprises him at times with how open she is to new ideas (something he's not familiar with dealing with humans), and also considers him a friend, though i know you never discover anything more about him as a friend than what he will tell you.  At least he confided to her that the orb Cory used was elven in origin.

 

Not sure how my other characters will do.  If eventually i decide the angst is worth the new content, I'll romance him on a future play...but that's some time in the future.

Romance-only thing, yes. And optional.

Yes,a romance-only elf thing, for a good reason, and you don't have to do it.  My face looked NAKED afterwards!  I still liked it but it was a constant reminder.  I was mad for quite a while, until the end and I saw how it really did mean something to him.    The tattoo moment was very tender, I have to say, he was very gentle.  I had high hopes at that point.  Of course, I have finished the game and now I am wonder just what went on after the credits.  I just hope there some DLC that at least explains it even if he isn't the main purpose of the content.

Drinking from the well really comes down to if you are a selfish bastard or not. I mean, bound yourself and every single person under your command to a Elven thingy who nobody truly knows, just for a little power and magical thingies? Hell no, even my "elfy" dalish mage turned that shot down.
