I was convinced Giselle would become Divine. Partly because I never thought BioWare would give us the choice of who shall become Divine, considering they most certainly won't be able to have such a decision have meaningful and lasting consequences.

I would be lying if my opinion of her didn't sour a bit over that.
I had the Dorian personal quest glitch in my first PT, so I never saw that side of her...then it happened in my Dorianmancing PT and I was shocked, haha.

Giselle is cool but she needed to mind her own business when it comes to Dorian. I still don't know if it was her starting the rumors around Skyhold about him. As for her being Divine. I wouldn't make her one, not because of Dorian but because she is too nice for the changes the Chantry needs. Those backstabbing Clerics would walk all over her.

Why can't we choose an honest and pious leader over those with the savvy for politicking?
Two out of the three candidates we have are honest and pious.

Cassandra is a candidate, so you can.

because unless the former is also the latte she'll gets eaten alive by the latter in the current political enviroment of thedas. In a completely stable and peacefull time she would have sufficed but just like churchill was a poor leader in peace giselle would be a poor leader in war.

She both has virtually no prominence or reputation and is a complete milquetoast.
It is kinda implied that she provides spiritual support and guidance to the Inquisition. While she isn't fighting in the front lines, I think everyone would know the identity of the Revered Mother working with the Inquisition. Plus, wasn't the reason the War Council suggested to seek out Mother Giselle in the Hinterlands is so that Mother Giselle can be the Inquisition's voice in the Chantry? They wouldn't suggest that you obtain the support of some no-name Revered Mother after all. Also, cheesy as it may be, her leading the song after Haven was destroyed was instrumental in preventing the Inquisition from falling apart. One of the companions (Solas I think?) even admits as much.
The only reason Cassandra/Leliana/Vivienne can become Divine is because they have the backing of the Inquisition. If it wasn't for the growing reputation of the Inquisition and its part in saving the world, there's no way that the Chantry would have elected a Mage Divine, no matter how politically well-connected she is.

Considering Giselle wanted the Inquisitor to lie to Dorian, I take it she isn't a consideration, either.

Giselle is just a Mother not a Grand Cleric hence why she is not a candidate for Divine.
So was Justinia aka Dorothea. Anyway even though Giselle is obviously the best candidate, they decided to go with all main characters for Divine candidates,, a supporting role like Giselle didn't factor into Bioware's plans.

Ally with the Templars and let Gaspard rule alone. Those are the biggies.
On my first play through, I allied with the Mages and let Celene rule (exiled Florianne and Gaspard), and I still got Cassandra as the next Divine. All I remember was at one point, Cassandra asked me who could be potential Divines, and I selected the dialog option asking if she wanted to be Divine, followed by saying that I'll support her if she did. Then a war board mission popped up right after that, pushing support for Cassandra.
Oddly enough, right after that, Leliana had a conversation with me where she said she wanted to be the next Divine. Given that I already supported Cassandra (and have finished that war board mission), I just flat out rejected Leliana. I wonder what would have happened if I supported Leliana as well.

I just wish they don't do to the new Divine Victoria what they did to the current monarch of Ferelden - two different people with different beliefs but filling in for the same plot regardless.

I'd have been okay with that until seeing her give Dorian crap for his nationality. Eff that woman.

He's Tevinter a country that's sworn enemies not only with the Orlesian Chantry but most of Thedas, of course she's suspicious. She backs off if you vouch for him, she just brings up her concerns. I don't see an issue with what she does.

I kinda feel Mother Giselle's role decline quite a bit post-haven. She just stays all day in the garden and annoys me with tevinter rumors. But still, I would like her to be at least mentioned in the next divine consideration.

This is similar to what I've done in my first playthrough. But I support Leliana and she became the Divine. Then I loaded back to the winter palace and let the three have a truce, rejected Leliana and I got Cass as the next Divine. Never did any support campaigns on the war map.

Don't be silly, that would make sense.
Come now, everyone knows that career progression in the Bioware universe is heavily dependent on one's proximity to the PC as a companion.

I'm not being hard on Giselle but she could have been the one behind the rumors at Skyhold about him. I can't blame anyone for not liking her for that. It's one thing to simply be concerned, it's quite another to spread lies and then go and outright argue with the man.

That's the first kind thing I've heard you say about Vivienne. I'm surprised.
Lelianna is pious, to be sure, but hardly honest.

Giselle insulted my boyfrando, no way.
...but seriously, she's not ambitious or famous enough. She's the kind of ally you need for power, but she doesn't carry enough to have it herself.
That applies to all of the candidates. None of them have an independent power base to win on their own.
Well, maybe Leliana does, but that's more of the 'blood runs in the Grand Cathedral' personal spy network to tear down any rivals than any public or popular support.

Cassandra's sword arm is her power base.

As much as I like Leliana and Cassandra and Vivienne, Giselle would probably be a better choice. She's also a cleric.

You would get Vivienne. If you support neither Cass or Leliana, or waffle between supporting both at the same time, Vivi ninja's the throne in the end.
