I tried asking this on the patch thread but the only gain were two rather heavy spoilers about the game before I stopped reading people's posts.

Should I wait with starting to play this game since the character creator seems heavily influenced and I don't really know how my character will look like?

Fortunately my qunari is bald... (even though his beard is as shiny as his green glow hand lol) but now varric's shiny hair looks too ridiculous. My meshes are on High :(

Ah well, back to watch_dogs while I wait for the patch that patches the patch.

Interesting. I had the opposite effect: I had the glassy hair on before the patch, and it is no longer there with the patch.

All my settings are low except for the mesh, as that's on high.

Still, it does suck that people are getting issues with this. But, patches tend to do that here and there.

They made the low settings glow/shine less, but it seems like any setting higher than medium is defaulting to medium or low (not sure which). And we have bugs with complexion and scar layer disappearing from character faces. Oh well, back to the breach as they say.

Seriously i don't get how they release the game with so many bugs, then make a patch to shaft the high end rig players, seriously guys ignore complaining about time / release date of patch and focus more on polishing / Q&A testing the patches before release, my game worked pretty stable before the patch now there's all kinds of graphical errors including the shiny hair and scar removal total destroyed my gaming experience in a critical time of my gaming story, now i will have  to stop playing forget half of the story while i wait and when i come back to it it will be like playing someone else game since i won't remember half the stuff iv'e done. In other words patch to needs to be rolled back or restored to default state asap put everything back as it was and rework patch 2 !

This explains why I went into the game and something felt.. off. Not just with my guy's super shiny hair, but with everything looking a lot sharper than I remember.

Damn, my character's hair looks like it's covered in baby oil! Not only that, but his stubble is gone too! I just couldn't bear to play more than a minute before closing the game... And I was really hopeful for the patch too... Please, fix this ,and a handful more (judging by the forum) of the things you broke!

Hrrm.

Is there any way to opt out of patching, in this case? This is the first game I've ever played on Origin, and I know that when you put it in offline mode, it doesn't stay that way on restart.

yes.  I cancelled on the menu about accepting microsoft C++ distributable. I turned off my internet and selected play from the Origins menu.. Game is playing.

So these issues are only affecting PC gamers, or are consoles affected as well?

Shiny Hair?
What about skin complexion?
What about scars?
What about beard?
You can all kiss your character creating hours goodbye...

The PC version seems to have had the last gen console limitations patched it into which is causing all of said issues.

LOL this is just so ridiculous...

QA had to have seen the changing of these graphics before patch release.

Shiny hair installed.

Forced low graphics setting initiated... successful.

Scars removed.

Freckles removed.

All skin imperfections erased.

Clothing textures disabled.

Please enjoy playing Barbie and Ken: The Thedas Vacation.

Otherwise known as: PC Patch = hot mess.

This is on ultra highest settings.

And this one is on lowest settings.

Admittedly I have not played any single player at all and all the MP characters I have are either wearing headgear or have short hair. So is this level of shininess not normal? Is the inquisitor not supposed to look like s/he walked out of a salon?

I am not touching any of my Inquisitors until this problem is resolved. I wish Origin hat a return to previous version. Tried to switch to Mantle to resolve it, but it does not ofc.

I care about changes to the graphics and character costumizations as much as I care about endangered species. It annoys me that they are endangered but I am way to happy to have hot showers, good furniture and a lot to eat to be sorry enough. The same here I have great hair for my pc, better fps and no voice bug so I can costumize Hawke in my second playtrough.

Ya, I'm playing on ultra settings, my character's hair now looks like it's wet paint. I much preferred the previous iteration.

As long as you want Hawke, and indeed every character whether you can customize them or not, to look like ken and barbie dolls, yeah, you're golden. But if I wanted to play a game where it looked like I was playing with animated action figures, I would still be playing TOR.
