I just completed a 2H reaver game and had a blast!

I started at normal difficulty and it was fairly challenging for me. Adjusted to hard around level 8, and nightmare around 14.

I was kinda disappointed with the last part of the game since when you mastered crafting, tactics and talent trees the game became a cakewalk even on nightmare.

So now I want to try a round 2 on nightmare, and was wondering what class/spec people find most enjoyable at early levels.

I'm taking a break from my 23 Champion SnS on nightmare to play something new on nightmare, and so far I am incredibly impressed by the ease of use and power afforded by dagger rogue (even/especially at early levels). It's just... dang, stuff dies long before it has a chance to become a problem.

Mage pre-spec, with a mix of elements.

The specs are pretty critical for a fully fleshed out Rogue build, IMO.

The best pre-spec char i played was warrior, but it sounds like you're just choosing between mage/rogue.

Rogue DW. It's challenging, yet rewarding.

While mage was fun, the single target damage was lacking, and this hurt my enjoyment.

Not to mention it took me a god forsaken 30 minutes to take down Ferleden Frostback, level 11, pre-mage/templar quest.

But hey, Fire Mine was a lot of fun to use!

Ehem. There is a certain thread with this in mind. Just sayin'!

More than another class if you want to retain challenge on nightmare then skip on crafting. Just use drops and bought items and nothing more.

You will see that in this way the game becomes much more challenging even on hard difficulty. On nightmare at higher levels it becomes really difficult in certain circumstances and with certain builds.

The immense spike on difficulty (lowering it) is given by crafting. Under tier 1 all is still fine (you can craft good items but rare drops can still be more powerful), tier 2 with good materials begins to become more powerful than many of the rare loot drops/bought stuff, and then tier 3 suddenly transforms you into a walking God.

If you want to absolutely craft then stick to tier 2 at the very most. It is only the crafting that decrease difficulty to underhell levels, not really the talents and power increase in the builds (only reasonably so; the game is still challenging while you feel powerful).

I just started dw rogue and it plays much more fun than mage and archer rogue (the other 2 I tried). Both archer rogue and mage play much safer and ultimately easier but are much more dull. You actually have to apply some tactics as dw and its quite rewarding. For me it comes down mostly due to party composition though, since I tend to micromanage multiple characters. 1 mage setup which I'm trying now is also quite fun because it's much less forgiving but can do higher burst and is just... different. Spell combo gameplay with 2 mages is just too cookie cutter, at least for me.
