I didn't face the plastic helmet effect, but hair looks is a little weird indeed. I didn't have this problem before the patch since I play on ultra.

BTW take a look at the ice ! It totally lost its beauty due to this patch....

Yeah there is something wrong for sure.

Started a new game to see if the cutscene stutter was fixed (it is not). I then noticed that the frozen river/lake from the intro area is just a flat texture now where it used to be translucent and had depth. I checked my video settings and they are still all turned up.

Man this is actually worse now.

Dear lord. This long to make the patch and it's this bad? I'd expect this from small first time devs but from Bioware? It's just sad =/

Can confirm:

  • Hair is shiny on ultra mesh setting
  • Textures look more plastic (maybe rubbery is a better word), in general
  • Face complexion and scar textures are gone for my inquisitor
  • Armor textures look wet/rubbery
  • Skyhold coat texture is completely different.

Actually this right here is the heart of the problem.  This long? the game just released a month ago.  Today and this need it now society is exactly the reason **** like this gets rushed out the door.  The game was fine for me, very few crashes, now its fucked.  I've been waiting for the talent bugs to get sorted which will take time, and I would have rather had Bioware take their time and get the patch right in the first place or at the very least not complete ruin everyone's textures.

Besides the graphical issues, I have another problem with the char creation. Everytime when I make a new char he/she is stuck in the fade :)

I know this is an old issue, but in the past I deleted my char and than I could make a new one. Now I have no chars anymore and I cannot create a new one ... but I can stare at the main menu (this is the only thing I expect from a game ... looking at the main menu ;) )

Omg it looks like how it did when I tried to use DirectX instead of Mantle.  I *had* to have it on low quality to even play it, and when I switched to Mantle it was great.  Now it looks like crud again.  On top of it, it takes twice as long to load and has more stutter!  *HEAVING SIGH*

Some comparison screens of what I've noticed. I tried my best to replicate them post-patch.

it's basically non-playable anymore because in a game like this, the looks of your own character (which some of us used an hour+ to get right plus multiple starts) changing is a gamebreaker. I am quite sure they will fix this mess but some form of communication from bioware would be nice by now and an assurance that this is currently the number one problem they are looking into

Not quite a month but you missed my point. It's taken more than half a month to just to make the game worse. I'd expect a few minor fixes by now, nothing big. But to have something like this? It's ridiculous.

Fair enough!  But it appears they wanted to make splash to appease the whining masses, and failed miserably.  Bioware could grow a pair, stick to their guns and serve the game as opposed to serving the incessant internet whiners. They took $70 2014 release and turned it into a bargain big nintendo game.

At least they acknowledged it, and provided a workaround for the hair. No idea about the wrinkles, though.

Good grief...

I'm not going to bother to run the game in order to avoid further misery.

I'm already pissed at the lack of obvious RPG gameplay features, let alone this.

Next game I'll just watch the collected cinematics on youtube from the great writing/storytelling that BioWare still has and save myself money and frustration.

Holy Andraste...............its like the patch sucked out their very life essence.

We sure this isn't an effort on Bioware or one of its employee's part to troll everyone?

I'm having the problems with the super shiny hair and freckles gone. I'm really sorry for the people who has the old face...

There are several threads in the EA answer forums with people complaining for some of these problems. I've found one where someone has posted a solution for the shiny hair which seems to also solve the problems with freckles and scars. It has worked for me, my hair and my freckles are back!

Hope this helps some of you: http://answers.ea.co...101233#U4101233

I honestly think people are overreacting.  Sure, does it suck being stuck on lower graphics settings when your rig is capable of more?  Yes.  Does it need to be "hotfixed ASAP?"  Not really.  It isn't game breaking.  Believe it or not, I'm still playing the game perfectly fine, it just doesn't look quite as good as before.

Don't get me wrong, I want it fixed, but there are literally people stomping their feet and demanding the patch be reverted just because of graphical settings.  Talk about first world problems.

Dude some people on the PC(like me) can't play because we get CTD every 15 minutes. It's a game breaker and needs to be fixed ASAP!

Time to go back to other games (like skyrim or ESO or WOW something) until they fix this. My problems are minor: skin tone changed from tanned to almost white and no scars and oh yeah shiiiiny lego hair. ... not gonna open to game until they send in a fix. I can't even use the workaround because it's made for people who can run the game on high settings... which I can't do. Only had mesh on high and it fixed the hair.

The workaround (using Ultra) brings back scars and gets rid of the wrinkle face thing in the character creator, at least.

Shaders should match your mesh quality setting, so if you have that set to high, use that for the command line option.

They're saying that in the previous version shaders were stuck on ultra (regardless of your settings). Once the game starts using the correct shader level, you should notice worse visuals (if you aren't playing on ultra) but improved performance (ideally it will be faster and not look too much different).

It's always going to look worse, but it shouldn't be as bad as the ultra shiny hair when meshes were low and shaders were ultra.
