Oh great. I finally managed to get this game a few days ago, but I wanted to wait until the PC patch came out to do so. From the sound of things, it causes just as many problems as it fixes. The blindingly shiny hair and old woman skin especially doesn't sound too appealing. Maybe I'll shelve this game and come back to it in a few months...
Graphics are broken (stuck in low quality) in patch 2. Needs to be hotfixed ASAP.

Shaders should match your mesh quality setting, so if you have that set to high, use that for the command line option.
They're saying that in the previous version shaders were stuck on ultra (regardless of your settings). Once the game starts using the correct shader level, you should notice worse visuals (if you aren't playing on ultra) but improved performance (ideally it will be faster and not look too much different).
It's always going to look worse, but it shouldn't be as bad as the ultra shiny hair when meshes were low and shaders were ultra.
Ok I just added the workaround. It's a bit choppy but... I'll work on it.

I still don't get how a shader setting can do this. Well I guess...there is no shader setting in the options or is there? That would explain it. Bioware set the shader to a certain level with no option to change it, so everyone has the same experience with texture details. If there was a setting and we'd set it to low, then it would break characters by design. You create them with a high shader setting, set it to low and voila...50 years older. xD
Glad to see this workaround though. Fixed it for me, too. ![]()

I think it's more that the shader setting is supposed to automatically adapt to the mesh or texture setting because it makes no sense to have them at different values, and the bug is that it doesn't automatically adapt but is stuck in the default.
The workaround worked for me, too. I'm quite relieved.

Sounds plausible. That's probably why they suggest to manually match the mesh-setting to whatever we set via command line. Normally this should happen automatically, but it doesn't and that's the bug.

BioWare QA Strikes Again!
Well, sh*t happens and nobody's perfect. As long as they fix it in fairly short order, no hard feelings.
Seeing my Inquisitor post-patch hurt, though. I guess that answers the question of how much I've connected with my DAI characters...

You're right, **** does happen. But these guys get paid to make sure it doesn't. And this issue? This is just amateur hour.
"Did you make sure the shiny hair was gone?"
"Yeah, we tested everything at low settings."
"What about high settings?"
Crickets.

Mr Darrah's tweets did imply they were pushing hard to meet the patch deadline. Probably shouldn't have pushed quite this hard.
The mistake is so trivial and on the other hand so widespread that I don't think stress had anything to do with it. Testing was simply cut short, I guess to zero. I'd say that half an hour with the patch, installed on 10 to 20 computers in the QA-department, would've easily unveiled the graphical problem.
This is also the mistake of not investing in Origin. When you compare Origin to Steam it's almost as if Steam is a living, breathing creature. Huge community, forum, mod marketplace, review-platform, community guides, chating and chatrooms, activity-feed from friends, screenshot and video-uploads, sharing games with friends and lately also streaming. And Origin...an empty shell. No screenshot feature in the overlay, no community whatsoever. It's almost a pure DRM, even more bare-bones than UPlay!
TL:DR: It comes down to features. Steam supports the installation AND uninstallation of beta-patches. A very handy feature. But because Origin got stuck in the early 2000 years, we get nothing. ![]()

My previous problem was DirectX Crash... somehow avoided it by lowering the graphics... playing and hoping they fix it in their upcoming patch.
After installing the recent patch 1.02, the soldiers marching columns menu interface and game play itself now Stutters / Lags / Hiccups / Slow-Mo's / Skips / Stop and Go / etc (insert description)... end result? TOTALLY UNPLAYABLE NOW!!
Already spent 70+ hours playing and now have to take an indefinite haitus until they fix it who knows when..... so sad.... I feel used... beta tester....

I honestly think people are overreacting. Sure, does it suck being stuck on lower graphics settings when your rig is capable of more? Yes. Does it need to be "hotfixed ASAP?" Not really. It isn't game breaking. Believe it or not, I'm still playing the game perfectly fine, it just doesn't look quite as good as before.
Don't get me wrong, I want it fixed, but there are literally people stomping their feet and demanding the patch be reverted just because of graphical settings. Talk about first world problems.
No man, this is unacceptable when it was working fine before. The game looks like a steaming pile of crap at the moment and we paid for a AAA game that should look like one. I'm not painting this to be a bigger problem than ISIS or the Ukraine but this is a DAI discussion board. Try to avoid off-hand 'first world problems' comments in the future.

Thankfully the only issue I've noticed so far is the hair shine. On the positive side my companions seem to be chatting more for whatever reason.
True that, Varric and Cassandra would not shut up in Emprise de Lion last night after DAI started working again for me.

Does anyone know if the shader/mesh fix posted is compatible with the 60fps command line fix? I can't go back to stuttering 30fps cutscenes. I just can't. I'll wait for the hotfix for the hotfix.

They should definitely feel the heat and learn from this, it wasnt just a small slip that effected a couple of users. How a bug like this manage to slip past em is beyond me, they should have notice it immediately they booted it up on any PC (especially med/high end PC's).
The QA did a bad one, like really bad (if there even was a proper QA for the patch, im starting to wonder!).

Didn't they test on the PS4? Hence not catching problems
