Still no text chat?

Those of you who remember me from ME3 will know I was a huge advocate of text chat. In this game, the lack of text chat has now become a serious issue.
Text chat is an essential feature for multiplayer PC games. Virtually nobody uses the voice chat, so when you don't include text chat, players are unable to communicate. I've run into countless situations in which a simple text chat system would have fixed things.
Could we please get text chat for PC in the next patch, complete with muting capabilities?

Also considering DAI needs more cooperative play than ME3 (which is ofc also a lot easier with cooperation), I don't see why they won't add it. Are they afraid of toxic behaviour or what could be the reason? Stubbornness?

I would also like to have text chat. Would make communicating with pugs so much easier

Every game I play, text chat is only used to insult people. Never had a nice conversation with strangers on text chat.
At least I never heard insults on ME3 voice.

I would also love to have text chat. It seems unthinkable to not have it, especially in a game where communication is so essential to success.

Honestly, I find this to be one of the strangest issues. For some reason, the devs seem to be very hush about it as they themselves even said during a livestream that text chat would be included in the final game yet it's still not there. I think the pc community would appreciate an official response. Honestly, either confirm that they're at least working on it or simply state that the devs in the stream misspoke and there was never any official intent (hopefully not the case). I don't know why Bioware's policy towards text chat seems so negative. It was possible to enable text chat in ME3 but was considered a bannable offense even though they included the feature in their beta/demo version but stripped it from the final release.

They meant origin chat. Which imo is just a stupid thing to even mention. Its like saying that voice chat is available through skype or teamspeak.

Funny thing is, its easier to log and report text chat abuse than it is voice chat abuse.

Yes... I enjoy play multiplayer games through a 3rd party IM chat overlay that requires me to tab out of the game in progress to use. ![]()
Sometimes I feel like video game development is stuck in the November 2001, with the Playstation 2 Network Adapter.

I can imagine me using it in lobbies and DAMP but not in MEMP - the game is simply too fast to type and play at the same time. In between waves maybe. I tend to ignore Origin messages when I am in matches.

I almost never post on forums but this "issue" needs more attention, so here is my bump.
Please add text chat. It would add a lot to the game. More tactical play and funny (non NPC) banter.
Or at least give us an official statement why it's not gonna happen, so i can stop the wishful thinking.

When the overlay works, which of course it frequently doesn't because it's LolOrigin

Because it's a console game ported to PC, that's why just about any feature the game should have, it doesn't.
On the other hand, I kind of like no text chat. That way I don't have to endure the idiots who run in and get murdered while the rest of the team is in a treasure room calling us noobs and all kinds of other stuff.

I have a mic but I don't like using it
when playing in PUGS I get the impression that only the wrong people like using it...
I have had all kinds of people (racists / lecturing / vulgar, etc.)
sorry for saying that.
But I often get in situations where a text would chat would really really be helpful.
After all it seems to be a console game and Bioware won't change that for PC users.

Oh wow, they díd actually say that. I just assumed I heard it wrong or that they meant the F1-F4 keys (which I wouldn't qualify as text chat either).

Text chat would be especially helpful when im looting a treasure room and some random drags me to the next zone before i finish.

Pots still respawn too. Did the update actually fix anything?
Added push to talk and a few other stability issues. Pot fix exists internally as does reaver rampage fix, it just didnt make it into this patch.
Also bump until there is a dev response to the text chat topic

Text chat is an essential feature for multiplayer PC games.
I agree that text chat is essential for multiplayer PC games, but only where no voice chat is
available in game (the game with the widest range that falls under that category is of course, WoW).
This is not WoW, the in game voice chat for DAIMP (and ME3) is excellent. In many, many hours
of ME3, I only encountered maybe 5 people that abused voice chat. I type super fast, but there is
no way I would waste time in a challenged group, typing instructions. People would be too busy to
spare attention for the text. I am a very text oriented person, but when involved with a challenge
in game, I would certainly ignore text. Voiced information, is easy to provide and respond to.
The only "quiet" ME3 and DAIMP games I run into, are those where everyone completely outgears,
or fully understands the tactics for a certain arena.
If I really, really want text (say, for communication to a friend involved with a different PUG), then
of course, I use origin chat. There are more pressing problems to worry about (disconnects,
crashes to desktop, etc...).

Bioware seems to be the only developer I know that makes multi-player online PC games with no text chat.
I just really don't understand why
I suspect it might be because of the game's heavy console-focus. Also, games like Hearthstone have removed the immediate possibility to text chat with current opponents, but you can chat with people on your friendslist as you can on PC with people you add to your origin friendslist while you play Dragon age...
It might as some point out, also be because of people abusing, raging and etc. and honestly - I can live without knowing what most people think of me or whatever. The younger gamer crowd seems to me to be a very sour sort who either cant stand losing or someone disagreeing with them, and most seem to be lacking any sort of decent upbringing and courtesy. I have constantly, while playing other games, been flamed at for just simply beating them, and people wishing my whole familiy would get killed or me myself getting cancer. I just dont need it, and the community dont need it, so I dont see many problems with people having to work a bit harder to communicate with eachother, considering those kind of comments are the norm. Toxic gamers are far too many imho.
With that said, I think everyone who play games should have a mic, and I dont mind talking while doing pugs. It seems to me that the flamers and ragers etc etc dont feel like telling people they wish their familiy gets killed on an actual voice chat, surprisingly....
At the same time I guess I have to consider that DAMP is a coop game, but when it comes to cooperating in pugs I dont think text chat will help one bit as I have tried to communicate orders to people in perfectly understandable english and still they dont seem to give a rats ass about common sense or how to play the game smart (maybe they have muted me?). And most people dont seem to respond even though I know they know english and that they are clever people, as I've been seeing them post even on this forum. Come on people, bring your mics out, have som fun, communicate with your incredible ability to create sounds with your mouth that makes it possible for you to communicate with other human beings. Everyone has a silly voice.
But I guess, if there is a common consensus that the community wants text chat, then so be it. I'm personally not looking forward to it.
P.S. This was just a train of thought type rant, dont take it to seriously.

I might be pulling this out of context, but I strongly disagree with this statement.
There are plenty of valid reasons not to have a mic enabled and those should not exclude people from being able to communicate in a game. Maybe you don't want to annoy your girlfriend who is watching a movie in the same room? Maybe there is an infant sleeping in the room next to yours? Maybe you're just plain shy?
Just the fact that a lot of players (no idea what percentage we are talking about for PC) have and use a mic should not be a reason not to include a basic text chat.
Then there's that other reason, the one that blizzard made popular with Hearthstone. Just shutting down all forms of communication to prevent any form of verbal abuse. But since DAMP added a voicechat option it seems unlikely that this is the reason not to add text chat.
So once more with feeling..
Add text chat, please
Or explain why not..

Sure, I agree with you here, as I have had the same problems. But then again I have added the friends that I play with on Origin, and they then take care of the talking if nescessary and I cant. I can still communicate with people that way. Many times I just add people who I see know the game, and are fun to play with.
Again, when it comes to pugs... I dont really see it too nescessary. I do understand that most do though, and if the majority wants it then I wont complain. But to be honest, I like that Blizzard prevented communication with random people in hearthstone, apart from those on your friendslist. It makes the game more enjoyable to play. I mean, have you ever played LoL? PUGS in that game is a ****** (excuse my french) nightmare, and has made me loose faith in humanity many a times.
