Sure, I agree with you here, as I have had the same problems. But then again I have added the friends that I play with on Origin, and they then take care of the talking if nescessary and I cant.  I can still communicate with people that way. Many times I just add people who I see know the game, and are fun to play with.

Again, when it comes to pugs... I dont really see it too nescessary. I do understand that most do though, and if the majority wants it then I wont complain. But to be honest, I like that Blizzard prevented communication with random people in hearthstone, apart from those on your friendslist. It makes the game more enjoyable to play. I mean, have you ever played LoL? PUGS in that game is a ****** (excuse my french) nightmare, and has made me loose faith in humanity many a times.

The big difference however is that Hearthstone is 1v1, you don't really need communication for that, whereas here you do. Although there too, I sometimes miss it, and yes LoL is Toxic, well, I've heard some toxic behaviour via the mic as well.

There have been quite a few times I wanted to say something. Sometimes you have done quite a few runs with a really good group, you just wanna say, thanks for the runs! Instead of just leaving like that, it feels so rude to me. Then there is the case where you go through routine again to level up a promoted character, there are times I just wanted to help them, by giving some pointers, explaining a tactic or opening a treasure room. Fair enough I could use a mic myself, but since it was constantly on at first, I just didn't want that, also it's totally unfiltered, so you can actually say things you do not mean in the heat of the moment.

I might be pulling this out of context, but I strongly disagree with this statement.

There are plenty of valid reasons not to have a mic enabled and those should not exclude people from being able to communicate in a game. Maybe you don't want to annoy your girlfriend who is watching a movie in the same room? Maybe there is an infant sleeping in the room next to yours? Maybe you're just plain shy?

Just the fact that a lot of players (no idea what percentage we are talking about for PC) have and use a mic should not be a reason not to include a basic text chat.

Then there's that other reason, the one that blizzard made popular with Hearthstone. Just shutting down all forms of communication to prevent any form of verbal abuse. But since DAMP added a voicechat option it seems unlikely that this is the reason not to add text chat.

So once more with feeling..

Add text chat, please

Or explain why not..

Agreed. Origin chat is not a solution to anything. Game should have in game text chat. Either that, or devs need to explain why not. (Consoles dragging glorious PC  master race users down to their level is the most probable reason I think)

There is a way for people without mics to talk in da3mp. You have to treat them like invalids unable to speak or write.

"Jump up and down if you think this game should have text chat"

"Keep clicking the ready button if you want to change the map"

Or just bump this thread until we get a response. Devs have said for a fact that they look at most threads here, so if there is no response then its pretty clear that they are avoiding this subject.

I'm asking for this since day 1. Would be really nice if I could explain our tank how to handle Demon Commander after wiping us for the 5th time.

Since you couldn't communicate with the tank, it's safe to assume he was a stranger and stayed a stranger throughout your 5+ runs.  I think it would've been wiser to had left the group after the 2nd fail attempt.

He wouldn't have been a stranger after the first attempt if we could actually communicate somehow other than jumpin in morse code. A multiplayer in 2014 without at least a basic text chat is like Lamborghini with a crank.

I would have tried to give him instructions on the mic. If that wouldnt work, I would probably leave after the first whipe/completion. It doesnt even take a full run to realize if a team is going to make it or not and failures are a waste of time at the end of the day.

Anyway, I dont really care if there is a text chat or not as long as I can either turn it off or mute/ignore people - which is the most important function in a text chat in any online, multiplayer game. If that is possible and you can still voice chat - then ok. I will still encourage people to use the mic as much as possible though. There is no reason to be shy, everyones voice is silly and everyone is here for the same thing, so why not? It is much quicker, much more effective and adds so much more to the game than a simple text chat.

At the end of the day though, I do think bioware has settled on the current system. Origin text chat, and in game voice chat.

Well how about this scenario? Literally 2 days ago I accidentally destroyed my microphone's cord with my chair and buying a new one isn't a priority at the moment. Would have loved to communicate with people still.

I think so many of us are used to having text chat as standard, its a little odd when its not there by default. Its almost a staple for PC games which require cooperation.

I'm afraid that your guess is correct.

If only bioware would come out and actually say that this is their gameplan, it's their silence that makes me bump this thread.

Just a simple "Nope, not gonna happen." would be enough for me.

Text chat would be especially helpful when im looting a treasure room and some random drags me to the next zone before i finish.

It would be even better if you used your mic.

I've been playing multiplayer pvp/cooperative/strategy games since the 90's and I think that no text chat is quite refreshing actually, even though it is not practical for those who refuse to use voice chat. Still, I'm on your side as long as I can turn of text chat, and mute/ignore/report all the idiots who come forward with their toxic behaviour once the text chat is implemented, as they usually dont have the balls to actually talk. And trust me, they will come, even in a coop game.

BW devs have the erroneous belief that people will talk trash more in text then they will on a mic. In reality all they accomplish is silencing those who can't or won't use a mic.  This is exceptionally punishing to female gamers because they can't hide their gender over the mic and make themselves vulnerable to harassment by talking.

Still no response from Bioware, despite them being online since this thread was created. The only thing that baffles me more about no text chat is the silence that the devs have taken on it.

Maybe they don't have keyboards? EA mandated consoles-only. They probably program through the gamepad.

In my case an in-game text chat would be much appreciated and in my opinion, very useful to the DAMP community at large. For myself Origin is disabled in-game for Dragon Age Inquisition and I have no plans to purchase or use a microphone; thus with the current system I have to means to say things like "hang on, gathering loot in a loot room" before the team advances to the next room or "be right back in a second" when one has to step away from the desktop for a moment.

Similarly, as some users have stated above, this stifles attempts at strategic game-play and cooperation since individuals that do not posses a microphone and have Origin-in-application disabled are unable to communicate in any capacity outside of F1-F4. There are times when configuring your load-out that it would be beneficial to have the capability to (through in game text chat) tell your team that you're allotting ability points or setting up abilities on your bar instead of them believing you are away and subsequently voting to have you removed from the match.

There is also times where i just dont want to talk to people. Some people have horrible mics and if i dont want to listen to static all game im forced to mute them, thus cutting off communication.

Yet another bump for justice.

I'm totally out of valid reasons to post here, everything has been said.

But since this thread really needs a bioware response, I'll add something new.

"That's one sexy Geth you got there!"

bump!

+1 to the need of a text chat
