It was the belief that we'd have text chat (in a game that greatly benefits from teamwork) that gave me the last nudge to preorder the game. I'd quite like to be able to communicate with my team when I can't use voice chat.

Hey, you guys have touch pads that could be used for finger tip writing and other kinds of squiggles. Talk about underutilized hardware. Or even something as nutty as this....

Also I DONT WANT to listen "i have paraqui it was blue, it died" "have you tried the ham they have at camp yesterday----never eat a ham..its never a ham" , "i quess i have to return to deep road once all this is gone" "I never been with so many people, i think i will never get used to it"...... After 220 prestige it starts realy eating your brain..generaly wants just listen some music.
GIVE US A TEAMCHAT, so at least i can THANK MY TEAMATES FOR GOOD GAME. ( i have mic, but the mic doesnt work in loading now )

^ Good point... this coupled with inability of females to hide their gender from ADHD boys, and arthritis-causing PC controls, makes this game very politically-incorrect. Isn't Canada/bioware all about political correctness? Fix pls!

My girlfriend was constantly cat called/bothered by unwanted male attention in me3mp because she is good at the game and also has boobs. Text chat would be a solution to this issue. Now we just mute everyone in game and use teamspeak to communicate because you just dont know when a prepubescent teenager wants to do his best alpha male impersonation.

Ya know I hate to consider doing it, but with the Consolized development of modern video games we are starting to get to a point where the industry either needs to make these kinds of things a standard on their own OR have it legislated. I hate to suggest regulation but if an industry demonstrates that it can't or won't create and use certain minimum standards, then its time to apply government level regulation.
Even a quick google search shows many requests for an XB1 Chat Pad... And I will point out that you can plug in USB Keyboards to the XB1, including ones like the Logitech RF/USB plug ones, so its not like consoles can't also benefit from having Text input support.
So I don't actually see a reason the feature couldn't also be extended to consoles.

I don't know, text chat kind of takes away form the social aspect. It is hard enough to find people to communicate with effectively in game and text chat during combat simply isn't effective. It is clear that they designed this around consoles hence why the voice chat wasn't PTT but I think I am leaning towards leaving text chat out of it.
