I don't know, text chat kind of takes away form the social aspect. It is hard enough to find people to communicate with effectively in game and text chat during combat simply isn't effective. It is clear that they designed this around consoles hence why the voice chat wasn't PTT but I think I am leaning towards leaving text chat out of it.

Voice chat is much more social than text chat, it helps you put a face(ish) to a player.This seems very unlikely.

Nobody is asking to take away voice chat in favor of having text chat. I don't see how having both could harm 'the social aspect' in any way.
If you want to be a social butterfly and talk to everybody, you can. Turn on your microphone and knock yourself out.
But it is undeniable that there is people that would benefit greatly from having also a text based chat. Just as an example (not intended to be exhaustive in any way): people with disabilities, people who write/read decent english but have trouble talking, people who don't want to be harassed by every idiotic 15 years old... the list goes on.
Having both options would be a win-win for everybody.

Never been fond of voice chat unless it's only with friends... So we NEED text chat. I've been playing online for 11 years and i can type like a damn machine gun so it wont impact much, especially where it can save. I just came out of a run where part of my map didnt load and I didnt realise it was just me until everyone started picking up things, and I couldnt say anything. As far as those people are aware i'm a really crap legionaire who enjoys faceplanting a wall and trying to crawl away from people rezing me. A couple of words could have spared that.
People tend to be calmer over typed words anyway, from my experience. I'm gonna suppose thats because you need to convey things over a short space of time since it takes up your hands, so you cant go off on someone.

Earlier today I asked the team to jump if they thought the game should have text chat. They kept on jumping for two full zones. Bump for the voiceless players.

Yes they do.
The Xbox360 has a Chat-Pad that connects to the bottom of the controller.
The Xbox One has support for USB Keyboards (I know this from working with people on XB1 and Project Spark. This includes Logitech's USB to RF plugs.)
The excuses are very few for not having Text Chat... on any system. Especially when it is most defiantly baked into the Frostbite Engine.
