When did Bioware stop treating its PC customers right?

I started playing Bioware games with the original Neverwinter Nights, back in 2002. It was a fantastic CRPG, still my favorite more than a decade later. KOTOR was clearly designed for consoles, but it was still bearable. But since then, Bioware games have gotten more and more console oriented with every passing release.

But somewhere along the line Bioware lost their way.

Dragon Age Inquisition is the latest, with silly ability paths and a tactical mode that doesn't quite control properly on PC. But I can stomach that, as DA:I is not really a bad game once you get past how bad the port is.

What's not okay at all is Bioware releasing patches that were likely developed on console, but completely break the game on PC. Ever since patch 2, hair and cloth textures are inexplicably shiny on high/ultra graphics settings (ironically, the patch notes said lower settings would now be less shiny) and characters have had their scars and complexions changed.

Bioware's attitude towards its PC customers is becoming shameful. At this rate, I could see them go the way of Ubisoft and just dump terrible ports on this platform without caring about customer experience.

Er... aesthetic/texture bugs of this type aren't gamebreaking at all. They're highly irritating, but there's no need for the hyperbole.

They released a heavy duty patch in a manner of weeks. This was mainly rushed due to the QQ by said customers.

I knew this would happen. They should have taken another couple of weeks. QA in a game of this scope needs more time.

Wow.  Bioware must've really been sticking it to PC players if they designed a game that was never released on consoles for consoles!  Talk about salt in the wound.

These are easily noticeable changes. If Bioware were interested in spending developer and QA time on the PC, they'd notice this patch broke things quite badly.

LMAO what the actual f....

Still, not gamebreaking.... but ... yeah I'd probably quit the game too if my guy aged 60 years.

Immersion-Destroying perhaps?

SWTOR is a PC only MMO.  You're probably thinking of KOTOR.

Oh lord, not another one of these hyperbolated PC threads.

"PC version is a console port."
" They've completely ruined my whole gaming experience. "
"EAware is nothing but a money-grubbing puppet of Microsoft and Sony!"
"Do they even care about us????"
"This is all a part of EA's master plan to destroy the universe!!!!!!1"

They get it-- some people don't like certain features in the PC version. They've promised to fix it up. What dyu want from them, exactly?
Let's cut out the hyperbole and try and productively explain WHY we hate certain implementations, please.

They could start with not breaking the game with patches.

I disagree in that PC customers aren't treated right, but I would say that console versions are favored more over the PC.

They probably made the mistake because most of their developer/QA resources were being spent on the console patches.

So, conjecture? Good job.

Logic. The errors in this patch could easily have been spotted with routine QA. Or just as likely, Bioware is aware of them and decided that it wasn't important to fix them before pushing the patch, since it appears the issues only exist on the PC.

Logic or not, you're still making assumptions. Reasonable ones? Maybe. And for the record, I'm in complete agreement with the idea that this patch is unacceptable, but that doesn't warrant the whole notion that BioWare is turning into just another Ubisoft.

I don't think logic tells us that they just didn't bother testing PCs because of some great disdain for the platform. Most of the changes are in fact for the PC platform, in response to PC users' (like me) complaints.

I think it's more likely they didn't test enough for some other reason. Time, maybe. Or poor planning. I can't say. But it's clear they didn't test enough, man oh man.

Yes, but you edited your post, which originally identified SWTOR as a console title.  ;)

Question: Has the patch been confirmed not to have issues on console? I was under the impression that the patch releases were staggered for different systems, which would imply that they are, in fact, being created and released separately for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Obviously everything that every developer does which you personally do not like is to spite you and your platform of choice.

Also I play exclusively on PC and I am quite content. Have your opinions, but stop claiming to speak for All PC Users Everywhere.

PCs certainly have their strengths, they're very good at doing taxes and spreadsheets. But when it comes to gaming one really is better off sticking to dedicated gaming hardware like the PS4.

consoles, I had a few and after PS1 I did realize it was a waste of money. a PC is a do it all machine.

it takes 2 wires and a usb splitter BOOM a console in your living room.

the console market play alot on the fact people are lazy and exclusives, 5 years later and then next gen comes knocking.

I update my video card about each 5 years for less than half the price of a console. I do salvage old computers to make servers, data dump and at same time save on heating.

companies just dont care, there is so much fish in the sea anyways
