Why was it the Inquisitor-and no one else-who stumbled upon the sacrifice at the Conclave?

Edit: Previously I had also asked why the Inquisitor was at the Conclave. That has since been cleared up.
My question is now only about how it was only he/she who happened upon the room where the Divine and the Elder One were? Was he/she wandering around the hotel lobby looking for coffee?
With the mage/templar tension so high and both sides literally at war, no one else was concerned about the Divine being missing or thought to go look for her? Did Leliana and Cassandra both have the shrimp at the opening banquet the night before and were held up in the privy?
Basically, what happened before "Keep the sacrifice still" and "What's going on here?"

It explains it in the book page.
For Inquisitor Lavellan it explains that your clan is sympathetic to Humans and has been keeping a watchful eye on the events of the Mage Templar war, you have been sent as an Ambassador (Spy basically) for your clan to oversee the peace negotiations at the Conclave and report back on the outcome.
Yet another reason why I feel Lavellan is the most worked on because the explanation is sound as it fits into your "just arriving" and stumbling upon the events unfolding.

Qunari: you're a mercenary hired to keep the peace at the conclave.
Human: you're part of the negotiations on one side or the other (based on class).
Elf: your clan sent you there to spy.
Dwarf: the Coterie sent you there to spy.

You were probably just trying to find the bathroom.
I wish that could be an option in some conversation.
"Just how did you manage to be at the right place, at the right time? As unlucky as the resulting events were, you miraculously survived."
"Honestly? I got lost looking for the privy and heard some shouting."
"Ah. That explains why your trousers were wet when we found you."
"Dammit."

What people above me said.
It is explained in the character creation if you read the description of the cards.

Ok thanks, that does take care of the first part of my question.
But I'm still not clear on once you're there how did you stumble upon the sacrifice? If it was noticeable, like noisy or whatever, where it would've attracted your attention, then wouldn't it have attracted other people's attention at the Conclave? No one noticed the Divine was gone and was looking for her? Was it just not well-hidden enough? If so then that is very careless of the Elder One isn't it, for such an important ritual?

Likely just went for a walk and heard screaming, then went to investigate. And yes, Cory was arrogant, but likely the conclave was packed with people as well.

It gives me great comfort that I am not the only one who's been thinking that.
Thank you.
Given the whole, " what is going on in here" line when you randomly look in on Cory doing whatever to the Divine that actual feels about right.

I'd like to think that Adaar, Cadash, Lavellan, and the Trevelyan siblings (mage and non-mage) all teamed up because they'd noticed something had gone wrong. Adaar and Cadash were searching for the Divine because they were part of the security team, and they wanted the aid of a neutral party (Lavellan) and one representative of each side (the Trevelyans) because they noticed Corypheus had too many guards posted outside the ritual chamber. While four of the five heroes fought the guards, one ran ahead to see what was going on, thus becoming the Herald.

Reading solves half the threads these forums endure.
My thread isn't titled very well. I'm actually mostly wondering about the second part of my post, which is how, out of everybody else at the Conclave, the Inquisitor is the one to stumble upon the sacrifice ritual. As far as I know, this isn't explained by the Codex.
I like the "looking for the bathroom" theory lol.

I love that! Wish I could like it more often.

Haha, I know there's a dialogue option in the Fade to be all "But why me? Why was I chosen?". Would be hilarious if there was a follow-up, "Why did my chronic irritable bowel syndrome have to act up in that specific moment?!".

You had the bedroom near the chamber Cory was performing the ritual in and his deep bass voice woke you up.
Or the bathroom thing.

I never got to read the intro card to my character, I clicked finish, named my Inquisitor and then some text popped up quickly and then went straight into the intro of the game.

The reason why you're there are stated above.
The reason why you're there to swipe the orb is the same reason why duncan is in all origin stories from origns. Right place at the right time/fate.

Edit your original post to change the title. It's clear that a number of the people here just read the title and commented without reading your original post.

The better question is, why wasn't anyone else there? Big Conclave, lots of important people, tensions are high, perfect opportunity for pro-war extremists to sabotage negotiations. WHY on Thedas isn't either Cassandra or Leliana with Justinia 24/7??? I would have imagined that both of them insist that someone acts as Justinia's personal bodyguard during the Conclave.

Lesson learned: when at conclaves, hold. Lest you end up with a glowing hand.
