Why was it the Inquisitor-and no one else-who stumbled upon the sacrifice at the Conclave?

Elf and dwarf: You were spying and heard what was going one.
Human: you were with one of the leaders of the negotiating sides and was sent to investigate the noise.

Well the divine was kinda loud , so the question shouldnt be why did Inquisitor go in there , it should be why did no one else check in on that room.

Well, my own theory says - they sure as hell tried, but by the time they got there they got blown up and the Inquisitor conviniently waited it out in the Fade. ;3

The needs of the plot?

I like to think that my Mage Trevelyan made it home when the chaos struck only to be called the conclave as a model mage and noble within the Circle. He most likely took his sweet time getting there just in case things ended badly...if he only knew. lol!

The Inquisitor is always going to be the person who stumbled upon Corypheus' scheme. If it wasn't your PC, it would be someone else, and they would be the Inquisitor.
I think about it like how DA:O was. All of the Origin stories in DA:O happen every time you play the game. The game explains that Duncan was seeking recruits, and he had enough time to visit one more place to pull recruits from before he had to regroup at Ostagar. Your player character is simply lucky that Duncan chose that location to go to, all other possible PC's die in their origin scenarios. If you play as a mage, Duncan is there to conscript you to save you from becoming Tranquil or going to prison or getting killed by the Templars, but he isn't there to save the Cousland, Dalish, City Elf or Aeducan potential PC's. If you play as a City Elf, Duncan saves you from the Alienage but isn't there to save the rest.
So, whether it be luck (or as Cassandra believes, providence) all of the potential PC's are present at the Conclave, but it is the background/class you chose that is the one to interrupt. Any possible people who could have walked in on what was happening are potential PC's.

Cassandra outright tells you she and Leliana were returning from Kirkwall with Varric in tow when the conclave went boom. So that's why they weren't present.
I like the looking for the bathroom explanation, myself.
That explains them, the corruption of lucius gives us an answer for why the templar heads were not present, as i assume he was corrupted prior to the conclave... fiona admits she thought it was a trap, and if 90% of the people on the bsn had their way, it would have been a trap and the whole game would have been a looped video fo her execution (seriously ppl, enough with the fiona hate its annoying).
So the only people present were the divine and all her possible replacements, some minor mage people, and some minor templar people, corypheus's crew, and whoever else was there to spy/bodyguard.... I would assume corypheus and crew killed everyone else prior to explody time, but for a bodyguard/spy, not being in the same room as the negotiations kind of makes you bad at your job..... unless corypheus ambushed the divine while she was getting dressed... which might kind of explain it... maybe they were taking a break from negotiations or something and went back to separate rooms and cory just pops out of the closet with his pants down and pulls out the orb.
As far as what my inquisitor was doing while all this was happening... well, lets just say long talks about peace and harmony with religion involved makes most of my characters want to drink till they're having ogrhen time.... Did the temple of sacred ashes have a snack bar or just a regular bar when we went through in origins? You would think after fighting a high dragon it would be complimentary customer service...

Val Royeaux Fiona claims that she thought the Conclave was a trap. Redcliffe Fiona denies ever meeting the Inquisitor at Val Royeaux, and that mystery was just quietly brushed under the rug.

I wish that could be an option in some conversation.
"Just how did you manage to be at the right place, at the right time? As unlucky as the resulting events were, you miraculously survived."
"Honestly? I got lost looking for the privy and heard some shouting."
"Ah. That explains why your trousers were wet when we found you."
"Dammit."
Priceless! ![]()

Dumb luck. Andraste's guidance. The Maker rolled a seven...
I dunno...Just a lovely coincidence that the very person the world needed was on hand at just the right moment when Cory's plans went ****** up thanks to him being overconfident and Divine Justinia having a quick hand...

@OP:
The question of why it was you who stumbled on the scene is simple:
(1) If it had been nobody, Corypheus would have won and there would be no story.
(2) If it had been someone else, that someone else would now be Inquisitor.
You can envision the events that lead to that scene in great details, but ultimately it doesn't matter and that's why we're not told. It's part of the story premise and a story premise is always just set. Things have to start somewhere.

I never got to read the intro card to my character, I clicked finish, named my Inquisitor and then some text popped up quickly and then went straight into the intro of the game.
It's shown before you even get to CC. There's a really lengthy explanation of your character when you're selecting the race + class cards, before ever even reaching character creation. The only way you'd miss it is if you're slamming PROCEED without even reading anything.
It's also on the official website, so, I mean.

The noble might have been on his or her way for a personal meeting with the Divine, considering your social station. You're just the type who would rub elbows with the Divine. Like Ron Burgundy, Trevelyan is kind of a big deal.
The Qunari was a mercenary bodyguard. Maybe the Qunari was a bodyguard for someone who was important and close to the Divine.
The Elf and Dwarf are bit harder to guess because you don't know what their cover was. You just know they were there as spies. Maybe the cover was as a mercenary bodyguard for someone important.
