After reading this http://www.forbes.co...gon-age-mmorpg/ and listening to other reviews and things, this has me really wondering.... Is Bioware moving towards a Dragon Age: Online MMORPG?

Personally, I would be devastated if they took this path, as I have no interest in playing an MMORPG, let alone a Dragon Age one.. but what are your thoughts? Do you feel like this massively open world with it's abundance of fetch quests seen in DA: I is forshadowing this type of online multiplayer game?

DAI seem a test for that as at the core it is one, so would be no surprise.

I feel like the massive open world with endless fetch quests was an attempt at taking one of the best things about The Elder Scrolls. One that failed.

I wouldn't mind if they did do a DA MMORPG provided it were like SWTOR in that its heavily story driven with storylines unique to each class and/or race, but if it were made like just about every other MMO out there and the "main story" is buried under a pile of side quests then no, just no...there are already plenty of those floating around.

I think DAI reminds of an mmorpg because in the very beginning it was planned to be an mmorpg. So hopefully, there is so far no sure sign of a future mmo DA iteration. Otherwise, I am done with the franchise and will have memories to enjoy.

Besides, BioWare already have SWTOR. Unless they shut it down, I highly doubt another MMO is coming from them.

I don't think it was a complete fail. I feel like in contrast to DA: II the overwhelming space of the worlds makes it similarly taxing though, and it feels as though there aren't enough nav points to fast travel to. They integrated the different environments very well, and squashed the feeling of claustrophobia from previous titles, but it would have been nice to see more camps or more waystones... anything to allow easy access to places already visited. In the elder scrolls, for example, you can fast travel to just about any point on the map which you've explored. That made it easier to choke down a huge chunk of land as opposed to walking or riding everywhere.

If I had to walk from whiterun to markarth in skyrim every single time I would have cried. This game doesn't feel that bad; it's engaging and fun, it's just returning to previously explored areas that can be tiresome.

With SWtoR still running, I don't see BioWare making and supporting another MMO.

Which is good. I don't really want to see Dragon Age become a full blown MMO.

I'd be fine with a DA mmo as long as it didn't replace the single player. Swtor simply isn't producing enough story content to justify the loss of the single player swtor games, much as I enjoy it.

EA has wanted to get some sweet mmo permanent funding in everything for some time.  I play and enjoy mmos, but I truly prefer DA as a single player game,

If they want more money from me, I expect them to deliver value for it. Not just treat me as a big fat wallet.

Do we really need TORtanic 2.0? There will not be a Dragon Age MMO.

I legitimately don't understand what people mean when they say DA:I feels like an MMORPG.

Its not massively multiplayer, and the campaign is not online.

If you mean in terms of game mechanics... Which one? Most MMOs are vastly diverse from one another.

And why is "MMORPG" seen as a negative connotation? There are some wonderful MMOs on the market.

I would care about a Dragon Age MMO as much as I care about Star Wars TOR, which is not, at all.

i want a future Dragon Age single player game so i hope they dont make an MMO.  after all, you can forget about any single player game set in the Old Republic.. the same thing will happen to dragon age if they turn it into an MMO.

Actually, Inquisition was first considered as a MMO.

Given the high failure rate of MMOs, I'm not sure why they would want to go down that path. You can count the MMOs that have made it big on one hand, and rattle off a list as long as your arm of games that tried and failed. The fantasy MMO market is already full with WoW, Rift, LotRO, and ESO and several others all fighting for customers, so I'm not sure why Bioware would want to throw Dragon Age into that market. It seems like a heck of a lot of risk to invest heavily in developing a full blown MMO when the success rate is so poor. A regular series of games costs less to develop (especially if you can recycle the engine) and maintain, and is more likely to make a solid return with much less chance of catastrophic failure.

Unsurprisingly, I guess, with the final product in mind. Sigh.

After the TORtanic, I'm sure Bioware isn't planning a DA MMO. In any case, I don't really see what's so MMO-y about DAI. Sure, there's lots of side quests, but you can get the power and levels you need without really grinding at all. You don't need to kill 10 rams unless you really want to, you don't have to hunt down every last rift if you don't want to. There's enough diversity in side quests to find stuff you like and ignore the rest.

Though a completionist run would get grindy, I suppose.

Almost all MMOs die quickly nowadays because the market is saturated. I think this is why Blizzard canceled their Titan project recently. Not particularly interested in a DA MMO myself. I would probably check it out for a month or two and then leave.

Turning DA into an MMO is an extremely bad decision.

Just look at Elder Scrolls Online and how crappily received that game is as opposed to the single player Elder Scrolls titles.

Everyone thinks they can just make a Fantasy MMO to take on World of Warcaft. No, you can't. We have seen numerous attempts at other gaming companies trying to create the next WoW and fail badly.

However, this is EABioware we are talking about. To them bottom line is money and profit.

So as much as I dislike the idea of Dragon Age being an MMO, it would not surprise me to see one with lots of microtransactions peppered all over it.

There's no way they're making another one after their last one failed so miserably. Plus, there's dozens of similar, fantasy-themed MMORPGs out there - if anything, their Star Wars MMO should've been a success because that's pretty unique. But it wasn't, because the MMO market is just extremely overcrowded. From the streams of Elder Scrolls Online I've seen, noone is playing that game, either (except for the streamer in question).

Currently, making MMOs is the favorite pastime of game developers who have way too much money to burn.
