If I was the leader of North Korea, I would say screw all this war ****, we are going to make the best games you have ever seen....
If you were a dictator, what would you command Bioware to do?

I would gather the best game developers from across the world and say, "this isn't at all about profit, we just want to make awesome games for free."

Order them to go back to making Dragon Age a spiritual successor to Bauldur's Gate II and other traditional PC RPG's, and draw inspiration from Dragon Age Origins for the sequels, not Mass Effect with swords or Skyrim with dragons.

If you had a lot of power, either a ruler, or Bill Gates rich. How would you use your power to make this game better?
I was daydreaming about this yesterday at work. If I was Bill Gates rich, I would contact Bioware immediately and throw millions of dollars at them, no strings attached, to get them to do the following:
If you are that rich wouldn't it be easier to just buy Bioware or even better just buy EA? Then you will have full control in what they should do.

Heh, buy the whole freaking video game industry while you're at it! Ubisoft, Take 2, Blizzard, Sega, CA, Firaxis...

I would in one way or another, ruin the once great gamedeveloping company that has turned into capitalists,
then made sure that the devs who worked there, never got to develope another game for the rest of their life.
Doing what they've done for several years is ethically / morally wrong.

command? nothing.
but i'd
* start working on in-house engine designed especially for narrative, story-driven, multi-platform rpgs that would not need extensive work to implement most basic stuff ('hey, you cannot have 4legged creatures in here!' 'orly?')
* focus on creating games hardware-independent (to end the everlasting red/green war)
* create a small indie division, responsible for creating games in more relaxed enviorment, pushing the boundries, testing new tools and whatnot. sort of R&D. those games wouldn't be restrained by the narrative aspect, their mission would be gameplay improvement (ai, procedural envs, the 'technical' stuff). free/low priced/crowd funded, ya know - for the rep and feedback. more interesting ideas would be integrated into the core software. core team and indie team would have to be separate so that none of them can influence another.

I would make them do a remastered edition of the Mass Effect trilogy in the Frostbite 3 engine.

I'd command them to remake DAO and DA2 with DAI art-style. And add more story quests and companion dialogs to DAI. And make a DLC about the warden where she finds the cure and go back to her lover~ :3
I'd command them to remastered Mass Effect trilogy, and make ME4 an after ME3 endings. ![]()

Force them to stop using that goddammit awful Origin store for their games. Forcing me to be online to play an offline game.

I would force the creators of the game to wear mascot costumes while working. Why? A dictator has a moral obligation to be a jerk. As far as the game content goes, I'd be a dictator of simple needs: to appease me they'd only need to add a storage chest to Skyhold.

Frostbite 3 KOTOR!
As long as you would make them do KOTOR 2 too...
And any other previous Bioware title or sequel to a Bioware title by another developer =P

First I'd cut all ties to EA. I assume my dictatorial control of the studio is based on my ownership. Publishing in-house would be more costly, but provided I can keep proper dictatorial oversight going, it should lead to an increase in quality.
Second, take steps to ensure that the company remains in my sole possession and will never be forced to bow to the whims of investors clamoring for short-term profits over long-term stability, which is what makes EA such a horrible pit of misery to begin with.
After that, the pipe dreams:
- Paid DLC limited to cosmetic stuff and full-sized expansions.
- No releasing any games before they're well and truly done.
- Every desk, particularly for the design teams, to be fitted with a big sign saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".
- A second sign, slightly smaller, saying "Gamers are not idiots. They can be trusted with the tricky stuff."
- With a note (possibly post-it) attached to it, saying "The ones that can't be aren't worth catering to. Cut that lowest-possible-denominator bullshit."
- Add a scene as free DLC where you can judge Casey Hudson for the ME3 ending. In your pyjamas, if you want. Yes, I'm still kinda bitter about that. I'd try to be a benevolent dictator, but I think I'd be allowed a tiny bit of capriciousness there.
- Get to work on a "DA:I - Dictator's Cut" that restores features lost to unnecessary streamlining (tactics menu), expands tactical and strategic options and overhauls the UI to be more KB/M-friendly on PCs. Send that out as free DLC when it's done.
