Hi, I am literally about to start my first game.....

Was thinking of playing a tank, but I played through DA2 and it seemed like tanks had a lot of trouble holding agro on more than one target, and maybe weren't all that important to have in the party.

Long story short I really only want to play a tank if it's going to be an important role and not just one guy off by himself fighting the one thing he can hold agro on.  If it's not that viable then Id rather just be a roge and try to burn stuff down as fast as possible.

Would appreciate any input from experienced players, thanks in advance.

Also, was going to try for hard difficutly if that factors into anyone's response.

Tanks have an AoE taunt and some gap closers that let them get into the fight first, so my tank always has aggro on everything.

It is kind of a pain when the game decides to spawn a lot of ranged enemies in all different directions, though.  You only have one ranged taunt and can pick up a second one in a specialization tree, but that's it.

They've given tanks the ability to generate a lot more aggro.
War cry is an AOE taunt, challenge is a single target taunt
Grappling chain can be used to yank stray enemies away from your allies.
There are passives that let you naturally generate more aggro.
Bodyguard allows you to take a percentage of the damage allies take instead.

Edit:
Oh, and counterstrike gives you max guard, counters all melee attacks for a duration, and taunts all nearby enemies.
