Made a backup of my executable. Took the plunge and applied the patch. Also, edited my game shortcut as indicated and..

No problemos. Actually, It seems to load faster. My in-game graphics settings were not changed.

So far, then, it's all good. I'm doing Crestwood by the way...

Yeah me too, just had a go at Western Approach, Val Royale and Skyhold, graphics are working fine with the workaround, nothing noticable out of place, loading times have been reduced by maybe... 50%? Either way it feels more optimised for some reason; no stuttering, running shaders at Ultra, mesh quality at Ultra, other settings at medium/high on my 6870. No crash or freeze (none in previous version either). Search function alot more useful now, saves alot of time. No noticable changes either than that, not much testing though, only had a quick go.

The issue I am having is the game hangs for 10 seconds every 3 seconds and it takes 20 minutes to navigate through the settings. My game ran perfect before the patch. Anyone else have a way around my problem?

So, do tell what you did to attempt to fix it.... no use US going over what you are supposed to do.

I've been getting shadows like that off and on randomly since I got the game at launch.  No idea what causes it, and for me it's intermittent.  Changing graphics settings doesn't seem to fix it at all (at least not turning anything up..  haven't tried turning anything down or off yet, it didn't bother me enough yet x.x)

My shadow setting is MEDIUM and Leliana is the same quality as you show in the pic but have not seen anything like it.

Hmm Should I update the game or wait (for the hot fix) !?

Did you have to manually type and add the lines shaders to ultra, mesh to ultra, quality to ultra etc? or did you do those changes in game (except for the quality one) ?

The good: My game always worked properly, on two systems. Zero crashing, zero bugs. My problems and complaints are all game-design issues (UI, controls, camera, etc.)

The patch did improve performance slightly on both systems. Mantle performance is also better, but still far worse than DX on my system.

However, with this patch my character appearance, like that of many others, was borked. I'm magically around 15 years younger. Yuck. Hope you guys can fix that! (The command-line fix does not fix this issue.) Secondly, even with the command-line "fix" in place much of the hair in the game is shiny. NOT shiny like the nasty plastic hair, but something between what it should be on Ultra and the nasty plastic hair people playing on lower settings had... Hope you can fix that too!

EDIT: I discovered that my game is not accepting arguments added to the desktop alias even though that's the way I've always launched the game. I had to add the edits to my game in the Origin client. Hope that helps a few others (this fixed the scar issues, but not the changed character appearance).

Oh man if I was you, I would wait.

I sure I wouldn't risk it. Remember - once you update, chances are - there's no going back.

Are you using Ultra on the shaders and Ultra on the mesh quality?

Works for me here, and no scars disappearing or anything like that. Thanks for the workaround, though would prefer a hotfix as soon as possible :)

Yep. I edited my post. Once added to DAI in the Origin client it does work to fix the missing-scar issue which others have reported, but not the magical potion of youth given my character by the patch, nor the semi-shiny hair, both of which remain in place.

EDIT: With the command line-argument in place loading an older save now appears to fix everything except the shiny-hair. Very strange. Overall way more buggy than the game was pre-patch in my case...

Hmmm, either than playing around with the graphics settings I have no idea how to help you lol, you might want to ask at the Community Concerns/Patch 2 thread, the devs are quite active there at present.

I understand your point, it's annoying to have to do this, but it's hardly coding. Significantly easier to do than coding to say the least. All you're doing it adding text to properties.

Don't be picky about "coding".  He shouldn't have to do that to make the game work properly.

well... I didn't get old but... WHAT HAPPENED TO MY HAIR ?!?! it was black I promise! how can I fix it ?!

2cnf6h1.png

I have this same issue with black hair, and the work around has not fixed it for me, in fact, if I use the work around, and put it on ultra, it goes from what you see there to looking like chrome plating, and is as or more shiny than my heavy armor, if I lower the setting, it just goes back to looking like what you see here in your picture.

Interestingly enough, Cassandra's hair, which is also black, looks perfectly fine....sooo...what's up with the players black hair being all greased and or chromed?

It seems to be a hit or miss, because for me:

No hair problems, grass also back to normal (those are the two things I noticed pre-workaround)

Well I can not play on Ultra or High setting on my machine. So I'll be sitting and waiting for the fix. What's the point of having options if you can't use them to max your game experience? Just lock them toa set (low, medium, high, ultra) if you don't want us to mix them.... <_<

Then just add -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel Low or -ShaderSystem.ShaderQualityLevel Medium instead.

Conal did state that the game pre-patch 2 had the shader settings locked at Ultra, so if you want your graphics to look the same as pre-patch 2, you need the shader settings to the same level.

Btw I have not noticed any performance loss by using mesh quality at Ultra. Using AMD Radeon HD 6870 1GB

What about

i4JE0OE.png

Is this really due to shader quality mismatch or something else?

That's quite fcked up. Being an Inquisitor has aged you tremendously in a short period of time.

So is there any point in playing right now? Will the saves become unusable after the hotfix comes out?

It's going to be one hell of a sh-tstorm if the patches post-release makes savegames incompatible. I seriously doubt they would do that *touchwood*

Didn't we already go through something like that with DA2?

Is it possible to rollback the patch on Origin? How long should a hotfix take to be released?

Thanks! :) Love you BioWare!

You can try using system restore, but I haven't tested that approach to success.

I can confirm, the hotfix does work. I tried a few times and it didn't but then I realized I forgot the add the hyphen before the command. Don't forget your hyphens folks! I noticed my Inquisitor's skin look 'older' and it seemed her scar was missing pre-hotfix, but both appear to back to normal now. The overall quality is a bit weaker compared to before the patch, but I'm sure the problem will be addressed before long.

Thanks for the hotfix!
