Knight Enchanter, level 13. I have KE pretty filled out, specifically having Fade Shield, but I notice that whenever a battle starts, my secondary mage will cast barrier and then when my first couple attacks hit (energy barrage, basic attacks, or really anything), my barrier immediately disappears, as now it's been replaced by a 30% barrier of whatever damage I did -- so unless I open with a heavy attack it pretty much strips me of the barrier my other mage gave me.
My question is: have I specced something incorrectly, or is this what happens to everybody? I know the general idea is you should open with a heavy attack to immediately create your own full barrier, but I don't always want to just do that. I also like having another mage handy, but if this persists I may have to at least cast my own barriers to prevent it (and I didn't check to see if my barrier has this same problem when I cast it, but even if so I hate losing all that barrier from my other mage).
Am I using Fade Shield wrong?

I have another mage in my party and have never noticed this, my barriers are pretty much always full from one source or another.

Hm... that kinda sounds like a bug to be honest. Fade Shield is suppose to add to your Barrier existing or not. I'm the only Mage in my party so I've never encountered this problem before, it does sound odd though.

After further testing I can confirm that this happens only when it's another mage's barrier and not my own. It's less of a problem than it was at first as I've leveled and gotten better gear, so I'm hitting harder even with small attacks, but it is definitely the case: another mage's barrier is replaced by my own damage-generated barrier, resulting in losing a usually large chunk of protection.
Honestly I can't really call it a bug: it does make a kind of sense. Just not sure it was necessarily intentional or an oversight.

I didn't have this problem on my KE... I ran with Solas in my group and he always put up the barriers. Are you spec'd into fire at all? There is an ability that will use up your barrier there for additional damage.

+1. Fade Shield should be adding Barrier to whatever is there. Having said that.... On looking at its description, it's written like its a seperate Barrier spell, complete with explanation of what barrier is.

I don't have the Chaotic Focus passive, no. I am repeatedly noticing this, and it happens with Vivienne, too: if barrier is active from a different mage, any damage my KE does negates that barrier entirely like it never existed, replacing it with my damage-generated barrier instead.
If nobody else is noticing this, I have to conclude that maybe it is a bug after all. The effects aren't as discouraging as I increase in level, since I'm doing more damage, BUT that doesn't hold against tougher enemies, when having ideal functionality actually matters -- losing some barrier against trash mobs isn't much of a concern.
Shame. I have no idea how to fix it. Maybe if I respec? I'll do more testing.
