So how do the Divine candidates make any sense?

They wanted to elect someone close to the Inquisitor to regain popular support.

Normally they WOULDNT but the fact all the people who WOULD be are dead... you settle for what you got.
Yes, that.

Because the chantry wants to force you into the role of its dancing monkey with a sword. Bioware does not give you the "Cicinnatus" option.

ftfy.
A mage on the sunburst throne... well, the other sunburst throne. Who would have thought.

Plus all the good candidates are dead.

It seems the other way around. The Chantry is the monkey.

By that point presumably all the surviving Grand Clerics have gone passed the realization of the fact that they all hate each other too much for any of them to get the popular vote to realizing why they all hate each other and that none of them would be competent to lead - with a hand full of exceptions. And frankly at this point they're tired of being sequestered.
In their minds, Leliana or Cassandra are the closest thing they can get to "Justinia 2: The Revenge".

There's a better candidate than all three combined living in my castle. My ass all the good candidates are dead.

Cassandra already ruled out the Inquisitor.

I guess Mother Giselle's too minor a figure, unfortunately

I know you're...you, but are you serious? Some of us don't have the inflated ego you do, Xil. Contrary to popular belief, some of us don't design people to be good at everything we think is worthwhile. I don't think any character I've designed yet should do more than kill things.

No, it is quite smart. They take someone close to you and make them divine so your feel obligated to serve them. Thus, the Inquisition turns into the chantry’s military branch. As I said, Bioware does not give you the opportunity to say, "job is done, I give up my power and authority to live my life..." Probably because of DLC and what not.

Yes, that was a joke. I know who you meant, though I don't think that Giselle is at all qualified. She's very much a small-scale doer of good works, though I'm sure she'd function wonderfully under Leliana.

giselle would be a horrible divine. At this point the chantry needs someone who can rebuild it. Someone with authority and a willingness to use the power that come with it and who also isn't too embroiled in chantry inner politics. Vivienne cass and leliana are actually pretty ideal choices.

If that's the case, I hope they win then.
Because in my eyes, the Chantry has become pathetic (and I've been a fan). Turning this back on me would win my respect. All of Southern Thedas has become desperate and pathetic really. To just let my random ass (whatever character that may be) call the shots on all of their social/political issues and religion.. I hope this DLC you talk about knocks me down a peg (or maybe kills me entirely). I want to be done with the Inquisition.

Strange things happen when an organization's entire leadership has been wiped out.
What made you a fan of the Chantry before?
