Story-wise, who's the best Warrior/Mage/Rogue in the party? (Possible Spoilers)

Solas is nowhere near by when Cory attacks Haven. By that point, Cory has mastery over it. Of course, Cory also tried to rip the Anchor out which allowed to Inquisitor to use it more. Solas is definitely not needed afterwards.

But in the aftermath of the explosion and the first shot at the Breach Solas was using magic on the Inquisitor to the point where it had Adan wishing there were Templars nearby.

Stabilizing the Mark could have had the side effect of binding it to the Inquisitor permanently.

I tend to run:

Protag (S & S Templar)

Cass/Blackwall/Bull (I really mix around a lot, and depending where I feel they may contribute the most story wise)

Varric (Sera for all dragon hunts)

Dorian (Actually my mainstary was Vivi, mostly because I tend to mirror her views only for her to end up so OP it breaks the game for me and I don't care much for Solas, and I really dislike his built).

And thus far I feel have yet to compromise my enjoyment of the storyline.

In the end, that's all that matters I guess :)

But there's a difference of closing tears versus the parent Breach. And during his dream sequence, you don't know who he is at the time either. And considering he is an Elven god of deceit, he could have easily been lying.

True, but I think it's the same principle. Then again, he could have been strengthening you in his own way, like the mages were doing.

And he could've been lying, but I get the feeling he wasn't. He doesn't blatantly lie about a lot of things. He tells you about his home village (just leaving out the part about it being a centuries-old ruin). He tells you about ancient Arlathan (saying he saw it in the Fade but it was more likely from personal experience). He edits the truth rather than outright falsifying stuff. In fact, when you catch him out on something he technically shouldn't know about he gets really flustered.

I think I'm gonna shoot for my nightmare run with a mage. Do you guys honestly think it fits the story better?

Suddenly I'm feeling lame about my own warrior playthrough :\

I personally felt like mages kinda had a bit more invested in the story.

I'll give it a shot. I really liked what they did for warriors though. Gameplay wise. To me, the warriors and rogues just get more fun with each game.

Personally I'm perfectly happy with my warrior playthrough. Mage is my second highest, and I've enjoyed it, but so far while there've been a few extra bits and pieces, there's been nothing to make me doubt my qunari warrior as my personal canon.

:o

No, Warriors in this game are the awesome.

After the shuffling of DAO, and the hyper fast *wtf!* of DA2, Bioware finally got close quater combat in metal armor to work brilliantly.

Warriors > Mages and Magic **** forever.

.....

*please consider personal bias plays into above statment and may not reflect overall view of Dragon Age fandom*

I personally feel like Nightmare can go **** itself. I feel like that answers the question pretty accurately.

Stabilizing the Mark could have had the side effect of binding it to the Inquisitor permanently.

It was probably permanent before that. Solas probably tried to remove it right after the Breach.

Hey, go with whatever feels best to you. I started my second playthrough as warrior. Stopped at about 5 hours, cause it didn't feel right to me. Went back and re-rolled a rogue, which feels so much better.

Warrior: I think Cassandra is the best both gameplay and story-wise. She has skills that make your attacks more effective against demons, and of course she's an instrumental figure in the Inquisition.

Mage: Solas, for his wealth of knowledge of the Rifts and the Fade.

Rogue: I'd have to say... Cole. He has insight into situations that no one else can replicate.

For the most part I run with these fellows. Solas is the only constant in my party - I don't switch him out for any of the major story quests. Cassandra, almost constantly in my party as well.

From Best to Good-but-not-the-best-of-the-three (since they are all good):

Warriors: Cassandra, Iron Bull, Blackwall

Rogues: Cole, Sera, Varric

Mages: Solas, Dorian, Vivienne

This. Mage Trevelyan is hand picked and sent to the Conclave as guy that's supposed to convince the Templars not to kill the mages.

Ummmm, Solas would have been with everybody else in Haven, no?

Nah, they were way far off, judging from those fires. I also doubt he'd help Corypheus again.

Spirit Blade. Why carry a heavy sword when you can carry a magical hilt bound with a wisp that can summon a blade of pure Fade energy at your will?

And here I thought Mage Trevelyan was handpicked to stop everybody from killing everybody .

Strangely DAI is more of an Axe game. *hugs Axe*

Actually, as to where Solas is when the breach opens, he's at the bar in Haven where Varric gets into a fight in his trailer:

You can see him at 0:25. Sitting alone in the corner.

Keyword: "swords" (plural) Variety is the spice of life  B)

Even the Arcane Warrior had this luxury.

Yeah, I'm pro-robes but I have no delusions. In attrition the southern babies rebels would have eventually lost and the Loyalists and Aequatarians would've rebuilt the Circles. But there's a lot of death on that road for both sides so I guess you're right.

I don't mind axes either, but hammers just suck. Never found them cool. Chopping limbs is sexy. Crushing heads is just too much :D

I really liked being a rift mage. It felt like harnessing the power of the anchor to enhance your magic was a natural extension of being Inquisitor.

In a way, you're not so much the herald of andraste as the accidental recipient of some of the power of Fen'harel.

Best noun "that which is the most excellent, outstanding, or desirable."

Here's the problem, everyone has different criteria of what would be best. For some it is the function of the assigned role of the character, for some it is the social interaction and banter.

So with this in mind, I will rank each first by role, and then by desired social interactions.

Tank:
Low level -Cassandra
High level -Blackwall

Melee DPS
toss up - Cole (higher DPS), Iron Bull(Survivability)

Ranged DPS
1. Varric
2. Sera

Caster DPS
1. Dorian
2. Solas
3. Vivienne (she is higher after you make her Heavy Armor with silverite, otherwise she spends most combat dead.)

Caster Utility
1. Solas
2. Dorian
3. Vivienne

Social - completely subjective (based on banter)
1. Varric
2. Solas
3. Cole
4. Cassandra
5. Iron Bull
6. Sera
7. Blackwall
8. Vivienne
