After a month away from PC gaming, I've finally gotten back to DA:I. I got inspired earlier to roll up my first tank in the series, and this is gonna be quite different for me. I've been playing exclusively dps in many RPGs for over 27 years now, so I think it's time to branch out.

Anyway, meet Valena, my human warrior. She's not nearly as conventionally beautiful as my previous character (my mage was pretty sheltered prior to the start of the game,) but Valena here isn't meant to be. She's a warrior that's seen a battle or three, and has a few scars as well as a bit of a busted nose. She's not too hard on the eyes though, and I think her and Bull are gonna work out splendidly. She's pro-Templar, believes in Andraste (although thinks the Chantry politics can take a hike) She's not anti-mage, just is very mistrustful of magic.

I took the first preset face and modified the hell outta it. :)

Oh hell, more sodding magic. Perfect. Crap. Like my day hasn't been full of stupid enough. Now all we need is an ancient being to go 'Mwhahahah' and my month is complete.

For you folks that have missed the adventures of Lois Trevelyan, she will be back tomorrow. The parts for the plane arrived and she should arrive in the Forbidden Oasis to continue her quest to defeat Corypheus. She's getting tired of the dry air at the airport in the Exalted Plains

Ahh, Sutherland. :D I'm only a couple missions in on his questline, but it's great to have him in the game. I still dunno why he didn't show up in Harold's game. I didn't even get to talk to him in Herald's Rest to start the whole chain. He just wasn't there. Oh well. He's here now, that's what counts.

Speaking of the account of Red Crossing, did you ever give it to the Chantry? I gave it to the Dalish in each of my first two games, and I only just remembered it was an option to give it to the Chantry reading it just now.

Althogh we started out with very similar PTs -- although yours is progressing much more quickly than mine -- our paths are really diverging now. Samson isn't in my game, and I'm pretty sure I won't be able to talk Leliana out of anything in Valence. Dofni seems to be one for just letting her people kill someone when they have a mind to, heh.

Julia sold the info to the Chantry since she was a Chantry girl. I don't recall how much gold she got but the reaction is to kind of brush it under the rug (kind of like the Ark of the Covenant at the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark, where it just goes into a giant warehouse with a bunch of other relics and is forgotten. <_<). I like giving it to the Dalish better, plus you get an extra war table mission to boot.

I'm getting close to finishing this run, which means in the back of my head now I'm starting to think about what I want to do next. If I play Adaar and romance Bull, there's no way I can do nightmare....he's squishier than low level mage Julia was . Another possibility is to import my "everything horrible happened and everyone died" world state (it's made up, I didn't actually have DA/DA2 playthroughs like that) and then not recruit anyone that I can't kick out later. Just for variety. If such a game is anything like no-import ME3 though, it will be really depressing. I only did that once and never again.

Hard in Hightown: The Re-Deadifying  Varric's personal quest should have involved going to Kirkwall, deadifying Worthy, and meeting Bianca there, then we could've gone down to the site of Hawke's original deep roads expedition. Oooh...

This would have been so ridiculously awesome! :P

Which site are you using to upload pics?

I have an account at MediaFire. I don't really want to create an account some place else so I was hoping I could get it to work. It could be the way the site uses links, or it could also be that IE hates BSN. <_<

I think IE hates everybody.  It almost never has any attention thrown it's way.  I think it's getting very bitter in it's old age.   :P

I go through imgur myself.  It's free to use, so maybe try that instead and see if it plays nicer with IE.

Valena, or Val.  And thank you very much.    ;)

I picked the name because it's a derivative of "Valkyrie," and means "strong female warrior" in general.  I thought it fit.  And boy, I have a feeling her and Solas are going to clash pretty hard.

Maise Cadash is trying to adjust to life in the Inquisition.  She misses her alchemy lab and her salroka who always had her back, the Carta not so much.  For once in her life she is calling the shots (although that hasn't seemed to change her body count much).   Leliana was able to pay off the Carta so Maise isn't as worried about an arrow in her back, although she still resets her traps every night before she goes to bed.

She is gradually getting to know her companions after spending several weeks traveling the Hinterlands with Varric, Cass, and Solas.  Varric is Merchant guild but seems decent enough even though the Merchant's guild often pulls the Carta's strings.  His crossbow in amazing though, Maise's palms itch to get her hands on it.  If she didn't have to close the breach she'd probably steal it and run.   Cass is tough but brutally honest, not something Maise has seen much of, but she appreciates it while still retaining her natural suspicion.  It seems odd that she feels more kinship with the elf, but their quiet conversations and his astute observations have provided her with food for thought and he seems to understand where she comes from better than those who have always known privilege (no metagame knowledge for her).

After dealing with the rogue factions of mages and Templars and talking to Master Dennet about horses for the Inquisition the party proceeded Val Royeaux to deal with the Chantry.  Maise thought this was a foolish idea, but Cassandra was determined to make it happen.  So she left Cullen's soldiers to build watchtowers while the Inquisition wasted its time dealing with a toothless chantry and an arrogant head Seeker.  On the bright side she found a couple of cool schematics and became acquainted with the Friends of Red Jenny (or at least Sera).  The group sounds useful but perhaps a bit too unorganized (or maybe that is years with the Carta speaking).  An Orlesian mage with a high opinion of herself also joined the Inquisition, it's never a bad idea to have a hold on those with power and Maise can play this game.

Then back to the Hinterlands to talk with the mages at Redcliffe - who don't seem to have expected the Inquisition (sorry, not sorry).  Something was really wrong with the mages and Maise had no trouble translating "indenture" to slavery.  Old Carta trick there.  The arrogant Tevinter mage oozing wealth and privilege assumed she would swallow his story about warping time whole, but he was at least amusing (and he had a fantastic mustache).   The whole village was giving Maise a headache so after recruiting the smuggler  (every organization needs a few) and picking up some masterwork scout armor it was time to depart.

Solas still needed help with that elven artifact thing he mentioned so off they went to find it (and a very rude elf mage).  Solas seemed happy afterward so they activated a couple more of those elf thingies Maise remembered from their travels.  And Leliana had mentioned a Grey Warden so off to Lake Luthias to recruit the warden with the amazing beard.  Wow, awesome beard AND he can fight, poor Maise couldn't keep her eyes off him (BAD Maise, this was supposed to be the Bull romance playthrough - I think my dwarf has other ideas).   Back to Haven for some armor crafting and a conversation with the beard, um I mean the Warden.  Oh, and time to talk to everyone else as well....

Josie's suspicion and her attempts to whitewash Maise's background rubbed the wrong way though.  Yes, Maise smuggled lyrium, yes she killed people (and the products of her alchemy lab probably killed a lot more), but when you start from the bottom there aren't a lot of choices other than serve the Carta or starve.   And it's not like the humans don't smuggle and kill, they just put fancier names on it.  Maise feels even more alone now that Solas isn't talking to her, just because she got uncomfortable discussing spirits and refused to argue with him.    Maybe she should go flirt with the beard....

Today I beat all three dragons at Emprice du Lion. For the first two I had two mages and two warriors. I then took a risk and fought the last one despite having only one character at the same level while the rest were below it by one. It was a tough battle but I vanquished it with one warrior, one rogue, and two mages.

The reason I chose this was because before I missed the chance to give Solas a decent Keeper robe before defeating Corypheus. I feared I wasn't strong enough to take on the Highland Ravager, and I didn't care about finishing the Tomb of Fariel Quests until later.

My set up for the mages was to have two Knight Enchanters armed with frost staves. Vivienne was my Ice Queen so she had stronger ice talents than my Inquisitor mage. They both were given Revival just in case, but arming them with Spirit Blade was more necessary. That 'guard' on the Highland Ravager is a pain unless you can crack it.

Cassandra was my warrior, using Sword and Shield techniques. But I made sure to give her Vanguard perks to toughen her up. The weapon she had wasn't the best but it was the only one with a dragon-slaying rune. I was lucky to acquire a stronger battlemaster armore before confronting the Highland Ravager.

Varric was my rogue, but I didn't prep him up as best I could. I thought he'd have enough dexterity to avoid most attacks. I was wrong. Hence the use of Revival.

Three of my characters were given the best fire resistance I could smith at the time. The fire potions might have done better because they were upgraded to offer 60% resistance. I don't know if that's true, but having Healing Mist became very useful. I'm not sure if I should have given Varric the enhanced fire resistance belt instead of Cassandra. She really withstood a lot.

In the end I was very pleased with my accomplishment. I beat that dragon and made Solas his own Elven robe.

Yes, our handsome beard (uh, Warden) with that fantastic gravelly voice seems to hit all the right notes for a lonely dwarf.  I really had planned for Maise to romance Bull, but sometimes our characters take on a bit of life of their own.

I suppose it would be good for Bull to romance another Qunari, even if she is a mage.  I guess he will have to wait for Rajya Adaar.

Yesterday I finally started a new PT. It was SO MUCH FUN!

Best husband in the world got home early from work and made dinner and took care of our baby so that I could just grab a plate and get my game started. Set up a new worldstate and made a new inqy, female qunari mage which will be great. Wow what a difference it makes to have a new voice for a new character, it makes it so much easier to switch your mind to the new one, this is the deeper one that suits my Qunari perfectly. She is more direct and sure of herself that my last little elven inqy, only got at far as meeting Solas and Varric but it was still just wonderful.

This PT will most likely take a loooong loooong time to complete, since there is limited gamingtime to be had. But on the upside, then I will have a Inqy up and running when the first dlc goes out. Have fun everyone, still reading about your games now and then and it is the next best thing to being able to play myself.

I got mods to work!!  And it didn't take me two days of fighting.  Spork and Mike might be among those that remember me fighting with ME mods last summer.   :P

I'll put a screenshot up of not-crappy Skyhold clothes a little later.

Finally got around to killing that venatori in the Exalted Plains for Dorian, which finished his quest, so we went back to the Hinterlands, and wrapped up a couple things; closed a giant underground rift for Solas, and I seem to remember there was some conversation or something afterwards, but this time nothing, and not even very good loot, which is disappointing, then we harvested a crapload of blood lotus near Blackwall's old hangout so that we can build a greener garden back in Skyhold, then we headed up to Redcliffe, to make a meeting with Dorian's father and the Gull and Lantern is still empty.  :pinched:

Crap.

I thought for sure leaving the area and coming back would fix this. It worked for me in my first game, and never had any trouble with it in my second. What gives?

EDIT: Nevermind. Got the quest to work. left Cole and Blackwall back at camp, peeling plums or playing cards, or ... actually this reminds me of a banter I heard between Cole and Blackwall out on the Exalted Plains. Cole started reciting a rhyme, that went, "Mockingbird, mockingbird something something" ... I wanted to write it down but I wasn't fast enough  :pinched: ... as he neared the end, Blackwall interrupted in a very frightened-sounding voice, "Wait. Where did you hear that?" and Cole answered, "Everybody knows it. The children knew it." and the way he said it, it was like, "I know what you did..." ... and I thought wow is he foreshadowing?

Anyway, Dofni and Dorian went to the tavern alone and this time dear old dad was waiting, so all is well... er, unless your name is Dorian that is. Poor guy.

It's actually much easier than it was for ME.  My issue was purely on my end.  If you do get the urge, don't be afraid.  I would recommend the usual: Make a backup of your Update folder.  Then make a backup of that.  Take your time and read everything carefully.  After going through this myself, I could give you a hand if you'd like.  Otherwise, it's as easy as running a patch merge program and placing a new folder into your Update folder.

Well, after bombing around some grabbing iron and finding the lumber camp...

Spoiler

Must...harvest...goods...

She chatted with Varric.

Spoiler

Well, the first person here that hasn't treated me like some sort of saint.  First round at the tavern is on me.

Spoiler

Yep, I need a drink.  Or three.

Spoiler

Bit late for that.  You've trained yourself to hide, you're a lot shorter than me, and Cassandra still found you.  I'd rather give this a shot rather than have her longsword through my gut.

Then Val met Solas, and it was rather...bipolar.  The highlights:

Spoiler

You joined the Inquisition of your own free will.  I won't let someone use that against you.  Even if you are kinda weird...

Spoiler

Sleeping in ruins?   Okay, definitely a weirdo, even for a mage.

Solas disapproves of Val pointing out that power comes back around.

Spoiler

By Andraste's Blazing Bustier, I was merely agreeing with you that the artifact wasn't destroyed!   Calm down, alright.  You don't look good when you're angry. If those ears get any pointer, they'll cut diamonds.  And how the hell do you know so much anyway?

Solas disapproves of her asking bluntly about himself.

Spoiler

....You like secrets.  Fine, I'll drop it, but I'm watching you.

Solas did like her asking tons of questions about the Fade and such, but alas no screenshots.

Solas apparently doesn't like her jokes.

Spoiler

Okay, if you're giving me a dirty look for that comment, you really need to lighten up.  Anyhow, I'm off to see if everyone else is as much "fun" as you are.   Stay pleasant, Sparky.  I pray to the Maker that Varric isn't the only person not completely out of their gourd around here...

The green looks very nice.   I was torn between the black without the sash and the red without sash myself.  The red might win out once I get Valena to Skyhold, but we shall see.

Oh, when I was poking around looking up modding tips, I found out that the modders are indeed working on hair mods as we speak.  They aren't ready to go live yet, but I've seen some of the previews and they look pretty good.
