The reactions to the ball were interesting. Sera pointed out that the nobles are all in it for themselves, and that Celene/Briala’s lover’s spat caused a lot of crap for the people under them. This is true, Adaar saw the truth for herself when an elf was about to be skewered by a harlequin just for knowing too much. However, the country needs a leader, and she believes that they will make Orlais into a much better place. Education, arts, diplomacy, happy elves. Better than war-mongering and misery, right?
Everyone’s gotten worked up about which backside is going in the holy throne. Adaar feels confident that Cassandra should be the one. Not because the lady is her chum, but because Vivienne is too conservative and Leliana is... well the last thing Adaar needs is an all-powerful Leliana. She still remembers the implied threat about breaking Josie’s heart. I must have done something right, because this is the first time I can support Cassandra at the war table.
Adaar wants to believe, and maybe the answer isn’t to force herself, but to make the Chantry into something worth believing in? Helping the poor and disenfranchised certainly seems like something worth having faith in. More so than pushy ladies in big hats, or petulant gods. Between the right kind of Chantry and the Inquisition, they could make a huge difference.
The Emprise du Lion is the next port of call, to help the people of Sahrnia. Hopefully they didn’t get tired of waiting for salvation. The Inquisition’s schedule is just a little busy. There are still slaves to rescue in the Hissing Wastes, and displaced folks to support in the Graves. Move over Andraste, there’s a new saviour in town.
We had a little chat with the Mayor (I think?) of the decrepit town of Sahrnia. If Old Crestwood looked grim, this place is a whole new kettle of dead fish. Apparently the red templars have been abducting people for some nefarious purpose. Now, maybe I’m just crazy, but didn’t we take care of this issue back in Therinfal? How are there still so many red templars? There has to be something else behind it.
There were some adorable snoufleurs waddling around on the ice, which are completely safe on this playthrough. Adaar has no pressing interest in wearing rogue gear. The ice itself is a little unnerving though. What if it cracks? Then it would be straight into the drink, with ice re-freezing over their heads. Bleugh. Safe to say, Adaar prefers sunnier climes.
We pushed all the red templars back, though they seem to be a lot stronger than I remember... All except for the behemoth. Adaar encased it in ice, then my lovely rogues decimated it. The thing fell flat on its face in less than 10 seconds. Marvellous! It did continue making horrible gurgling noises for sometime after that though. The red templar rogues are much more of problem, with their pesky little omni-tool blades. The way they whirl around Adaar makes it difficult to hit them and keep her barrier up. Static Cage and Immolate help.
The kidnapped villagers were very demanding, “help us!” “you have to help us!” “pleeeeeaase!”. Please people, can you not see we’re in the middle of beating templars into a fine red paste? I had Cole open all the cages, since that’s definitely his thing, and he seemed very pleased after each one. The whole mine is a bit of a maze, so there were plenty of opportunities to use barrier and jump off cliffs. It makes Adaar seem a little like a ninja or something, when she just leaps into the middle of some nasties and starts destroying them. I love it.
It turns out Mistress Poulin had been knowingly giving her people to the red templars. She explained that this was to save the rest of them, and it does hold some logic given the circumstances. But Adaar is not interested in excuses. Those people had lyrium grown inside of them, and Poulin has to be held accountable for that. She’s growing tired of all these arses saying “I did bad things because I had to.” No remorse, any of them. She had Poulin hauled off to Skyhold for judgement. Wr still need to head on up to Suledin Keep and deal with a nasty demon for Michel de Chevin, but for now it's back to Skyhold. Hot chocolate for everyone!
