Cenise had her heart broken  :crying:  Solas should be glad he didn't get a face full of flaming arrows.

She dealt Corypheus a significant blow today in the Arbor Wilds and Solas pissed on it in spectacular fashion afterwards. She'll be better soon enough but today she's going to channel some of her anger into a dragon fight (or two). Upon her return to Skyhold, she'll retire to her room with her besties Dorian, Cassandra, and IB for some comfort after her breakup. There'll be crying, drinking, talking, and target shooting. After she's done crying, shooting arrows, and getting drunk, they'll all crawl up in her bed where she'll get on one side of IB, Dorian will be on the other and Cass will lay right behind her and they'll sleep with her because she can't bear to be alone. And they'll do this with her every night for as long as she needs.

Hopefully Josephine can find someone to cover all the scorch marks Cenise and Dorian will leave in the walls.

[Those last parts are totally in my head. I wish I could have actually done this in the game. Cenise definitely needed it.]

I'm starting to think I'll probably not have a romantic subplot in this game. It sucks ass, because these are the best romantic subplots BW has ever written, but it's not going to work.

I'm male and straight (yes, so standard and heteromasculine-normative; terrible, I know; maybe you'll think better of me if I throw in that he's black?), so while Dorian has a great arc that's not happening. Josephine sits in an office all day, she's not out adventuring with me. My love interest needs to be a party member that is always with me, side by side fighting evil. It's more fitting, it makes more sense, there's a better connection. Josie is too Disney Princess - it doesn't fit my Inquisitor's personality. So she's out.

Cassandra is a great character, don't get me wrong. We just have too many disagreements on things for it to make sense for us to get together. We have a healthy 'respect other opinions/agree to disagree' kind of relationship; still amiable, still friendly, but the way I keep speaking to her we don't seem like a potential couple; more like respected companions, people with convictions that the other cannot sway but that don't cause any animosity.

I didn't want it to be this way, but my first priority is staying in-character and making the Inquisitor who I want him to be, not just the type Cass would go for.

Play a female character then.

You apparently are not the self-insert type.

There was a bit of DAO nostalgia in the air today. Cullen waxed nostalgic (and slightly bitter) about his time in previous Circles, and mentioned his regret in not patching things up with the Warden. I imagine that will feel rather sad on my dead Amell PT, but Surana is alive and kicking, so he can just write her a letter. Put a smiley face in, she’s not going to hold any grudges.

Then Solas imparted his thoughts on Adaar being a Knight Enchanter, playing some word games (she won the prize) and compared it to the Arcane Warriors. They’re not half as forgotten as you think, Solas, dear chum. Leliana and Sera were also feeling chatty about KE spec (has everyone been talking behind Adaar’s back or something), though it was mostly that Sera didn’t want people to find Adaar scary. It’s very sweet, but I think Sera’s fighting a losing battle on that front. People are very qunari = scary.

We decided to battle the final Emprise dragon today. It’s a chilly place, so everyone wrapped up warm.
Spoiler
Of course, when the dragon started spitting fire (and fire mines) everyone started feeling a little too warm. It was a slightly tricky fight, especially since Varric forgets he’s a ranged fighter. When Adaar goes in to chop its guard with a spirit blade, he always wants to follow! At least we were all still standing when the dragon fell.  Not much left now until What Pride Has Wrought, and the finale. I’m not saving anything for in between this time, so maybe the ending will feel more dramatic.

We then headed around the Hissing Wastes to find out more about Fairel. I really must take Varric every time, since he’s the only one with interesting things to say about it. He and Sera have a lot in common: “elfy things, dwarfy things, bleugh”. I wonder how well they’ll get along when I eventually take them around together?  I’ve decided that wyverns are very annoying. Adaar just wants to ride a nuggalope, but nooo, wyverns have to chase us all over the place. We finished off with the Sandy Howler. I considered letting her sleep, since she’s out here at the arse-end of nowhere, hurting nobody. But... the music. The music wanted me to do it. And I got a nice, shiny amulet of power for Varric.

Adaar also tracked down a gift for Josephine – a little ship. Funny, Hawke gave her lady love a tiny ship too, only that was a lot less classy. Not least because she found it in a pile of trash, rather than a shop.

A tiny woman named Rat said that Sutherland's crew were kidnapped. Adaar would like to help... but she's offered no quest or war table mission, so I'm kind of at a loss. All Rat says is "It's so hard to breathe up here, who do I talk to?" Adaar! Talk to Adaar!

I figured I’d have my dad and brother make a character each. I’d be playing them, since my brother lives in another country and my dad doesn’t game, but it seemed fun. My brother made a rugged dwarf warrior, to romance Josephine. He’d wanted to romance Sera and be an assassin. Swing-and-a-miss on both counts, lil bro. Meanwhile, my dad made a dual-wielding elf for Dorian. There wasn’t even any competition! Just based on what I’ve told him about the game, he’s convinced he and Dorian are kindred spirits.

I haven't imported a DAO mage yet. I'll probably save that for the next time quizzy romances Cullen.

I've only done In Hushed Whispers once, and I don't remember exactly. How many battles are there before you can gather up your other two party members? I can imagine even a qun'ari mage would be kinda squishy on NM with no tanks as backup.

I don't remember either, and I've done it twice! I think it's maybe two or three encounters, with a couple of mooks each. I might end up respec'ing Olinar (again) and then spec'ing Dorian to complement him.

Today?

I created a new character and uploaded the saves to Nexus.
I'm no modder. My brain is not able to consume all the info and create something as complex as a mod I think.

But I think I can make faces. I have always painted and was drawing small paintings in almost all lessons in school. I graduated from the Academy of Arts many years ago. Did a lot of painting and exhibitions. Later on I worked in the advertising industry. That was before I got my book shop.

I made the Triss character yesterday and released it for public use at Nexus today.

Is there anything special above Triss being a pretty little fox?
Yes, You get loads of good crafting materials, gold and all shards done, no important dialogues with anyone yet, templars or mages still a free choice.

Little Triss - plus goodies

Football in the Skyhold courtyard. No doubt, it'd would take Varric mere moments to start a pool; he could tear down all the partially completed mosaic tiles to make room for the big board. Kinda gives a whole new meaning to 'fantasy league'

I finished my first playthrough!

I've said goodbye to my Qunari IQ, Areylia. But I might be back to run a few extra missions to clean up some of the areas.

And now it's hello to my new mage IQ, Elora. She's a Dalish elf who was sent to the conclave to spy for her clan. She's a bit snarky compared to my last IQ. And in one weekend I've managed to rack up 10 hours on this new game already. I'm currently in the middle of playing through In Hushed Whispers.

Elora plans to romance Solas. It'll be tricky to get through his tough outer shell. But Elora doesn't give up. She's even a bit stubborn. I'll save and reload as many times as it takes to get the "approves" responses. :)

I'm pretty much done. I've killed all dragons, crafted all the gear I need (can be seen in the last shots of Cassandra's personal quest, for the entire squad) and got all agents. Still have some judgements left though. And I might get all the shards this time. I might.

Oh and yes, the story. Still gotta do 'Here Lies the Abyss' :P

Also got 'What Lies Dormant' for the first time. Didn't miss much, I suppose :P I didn't take Solas though, maybe he's got something to say about it when you do.

I like how the cinematic scenes are shot 'in the game' and aren't something rendered seperatly. Then you get things like on my last screenshot, where you can see the Fire Flask at work, Or like this picture, where you see Cassandra's Blessed Blades:

Ser Trevelyan decided to pass the final judgement on Thom, pitting him against the Highland Ravager on Nightmare with the following gear (or lack thereof):

Weapon: Mark's Mangled Mace (aka Sad Weapon) & Wedge of Destiny

Armor: None

Accessories: Victim of Fashion

Surprisingly, his will to survive lasted him a whopping three minutes before the high dragon decided to turn him into fondue.

Gwaaaah!!! *scratches head* NIGHTMARE DIFFICULTY is HARD! I haven't had this much of a problem with a DA game since Moonphase on DAO's third difficulty setting navigating the deep roads with very little supplies. I took a few camps but I tried to head south and do more quests and save Ritz (a Inq agent) but was constantly trashed by a venetori gladiator (sheild guy) and a random goon by his side. So I went north, fade busted and went to Fort Calendor or whatever that one place was to fade bust and kept getting my butt kicked (out of potions, people except for me kept going down). After my 5th or 6th try I sacked it. *phew*.

I ran my bow rouge and qunari mage a bit and got them both to Val Rioux. I am still happy with my Qunari mage's look and still find it funny how she towers over people. As far as my bow rouge I swear she looks like a person someone else did which made me like LOL. I am taking picks still but really need a photobucket account since I can't keep pictures on this website anymore.

Well I am still surprised his attitude changes from DA 2 to DAI about mages. One of the quotes I discovered from recently finishing DA 2 that he said is:

"Mages are monsters and need to be properly exterminated"

If I remember his quote right. After hearing this quote after I rand a female mage character that romanced him I'm still like wow. I think even in DAI he does mention this and regrets making that quote because he admits that after seeing what happened to Meredeth that even templars can go crazy go nuts bat sh** insane too. I give him mad props for seeing the error of his ways and fight for the side of justice as opposed to fighting for a side that can be equally wrong to a side that he thinks is always the wrong side. For three games it's been really interesting to see his evolution from being a scared rookie templar to a templar who hates mages with a vengence to being a ex templar who wants to fight for whats right as opposed to being a biased person.

I did "what Lies Dormant" not too long ago in my current game, but it glitched and there was no reaction at all from anyone when it was over. Face expression?

Sometimes you get an unexpected laugh.

I was looking at the screenshots and discovered how multifaceted the face expressions can be in the game.
Triss speaking to Fiona in Redcliffe Castle at the end of 'In Hushed Whispers'.

What is she expressing? Boredom, nonchalance or is she drunk?
She is a cute charm though.

I am having the same fun () with my NM game. Made it through future!Redcliffe without much trouble, was able to close lvl 12 rifts while still lvl 11 and team lvl 10. Then I went to Fallow Mire and was introduced to lvl 11 tag teaming lesser terrors.  Luckily lighting those beacons is optional, but I want that grenade recipe, dang it!

What level are you at? I found with early levels that I needed to be really careful where I was before a fight started. I still don't use tac cam much, other than to see where all the lurkers/assassins/etc. are stationed, but even that much helps. I think I know the rift you are talking about.....it's a level 4 and spouts a lesser terror, yes? After 2 or 3 failed attempts, my mage ended up getting on the bridge, above the fray mostly out of range, and attacking from there. Being up that high also made it easier to disrupt the rift. :) Cass, Solas, and Varric I left to do their own thing.

Re: Cullen, since playing DAI, I've been wondering how much of an effect taking lyrium has on the Templars' mental state. For a real life comparison, one of my uncles smoked heavily for years and he never enjoyed eating desserts or anything sweet. After he quit, for health reasons, he turned into the biggest dessert fan. All those deadened taste buds were replaced with functioning ones. For the Templars, I wonder if the lyrium they take in some way deadens their emotions so that one, they don't get too attached to any mages and two, can do their jobs without feeling guilt, remorse, etc. etc. In extreme cases, maybe too much lyrium, or exposure for longer periods of time, even leads to them being more aggressive toward mages.  Anyway, just my two cents theory. :)

Is that a glitch, or is it supposed to be nobody reacts? I thought it was weird that not even Solas said anything. Not even sure I got any approval from him.

The NM continues.....level 11

Olinar found The Iron Bull, but no Wardens, and no (alive) soldiers, at the Storm Coast. Bull and his Chargers were recruited and sent back to Haven. Warden artifacts were given to Blackwall, and the dead soldiers were avenged by killing the leader of a group called the Blades of Hessarian. The remaining members of the group then declared their loyalty to Olinar and waited for orders. For the time being, he's just got them scouting. He collected most of the shards and set up all his camps, but decided to leave the rift and the cave in the south alone for now. Something about how the mark reacted to it made him think it might be a bit too powerful for the team to handle. Plus, he heard a rumor the place was infested with spiders.

Before finalizing the decision on whose support to seek to close the breach, Olinar thought it might be a good idea to check out the temple waaaaay out west. What a difference a few thousand leagues can make! It was so hot, and dry, and not nearly as infested as he'd feared. But, to make up for it, the entire place was a maze of crawlways and mines and tunnels and caves. [Sidenote: I totally abused the 'barrier lets you dive off cliffs and not get hurt' technique for finding the last couple of shards. B)] He ended up with enough shards to enter the temple, unlock the first door of each element, as well as one door #2. He then headed back to Haven and on to Redcliffe for a meeting [read: trap] with Alexius. He was very happy when Dorian showed up out of nowhere to accompany him.

Things went about as expected until Alexius cast some wacko spell that sent him and Dorian into the future. And what a horrible future it was too. The breach covered the whole sky, demons and rifts were everywhere, and red lyrium was growing out of the walls and people. This is what would happen if Olinar died, or gave up, or otherwise failed. Nothing like a little motivation, yes? Poor Cassandra and Sera, and Leliana too. What horrors they must have witnessed and experienced over the past year, one that had lasted only a few minutes for Olinar. He would make this right, no matter what. They finally found Alexius and what was left of his son, Felix, who had turned into something akin to a ghoul due to the darkspawn taint he'd been exposed to years earlier. The fight was brutal but eventually Alexius was defeated. That left all the rampaging demons and Venatori goons outside however, and not much time for Dorian to work his spell to get them back. He did it though, and the last thing Olinar saw before he dove into the open rift was Leliana's pleading stare as she died.

That future will not come to pass, Olinar promised himself, and he was extremely pleased to hear Dorian echo that exact sentiment. With the mages, the real rebel mages, on board as allies, he was confident they would be able to close the breach. While they got settled, he decided to take Dorian out to see the sights, such as they are, of the Hinterlands. They closed the few remaining rifts in the area and then headed further south to the bogs of Fallow Mire to see about rescuing some kidnapped troops from the Avvar. Turns out it wasn't the Avvar as a whole, but just one chieftain's crap-for-brains son who apparently had nothing better to do with his time than annoy Olinar. They ran into a bit of a problem [known as NM mode tag teaming lesser terrors] but that won't stop them. They'll just leave those beacons for later and keep going until they find their missing troops. Olinar better hurry it up though.....Dorian really hates the mud. He might have to take him to the Forbidden Oasis later as a apology.

Ok, I just have to post this because I'm trying to make my way through the mucky Mire (yes, I'm ignoring the beacons for now) and instead I'm cracking myself up. I have Olinar, Dorian, Sera, and Blackwall (was Cass) in my party. 3 ranged and 1 melee. While the 3 ranged are doing damage from afar, the lone melee is running to and fro trying to find something to hit. By the time he (or she) gets there, enemy dead. <_< Cue the next enemy on the other side of the screen....runrunrun...swi....dead. Those two sure are getting a lot of exercise though. :P

Lois Trevelyan

After a bit of time and a couple playthroughs of ME, I continued with Lois. It took me about 20 minutes to figure out where I left off, who I talked with and a few other things. I did some fighting and realized I was on nightmare difficulty. Too easy.

For the next game, I would like to see a 'Throw my controller at the tv' difficulty.

Sorry to disappear for a few days; real life and all that :pinched: Poor Thedas, crumbling because the Herald decided to take a vacation or something.

You're not helping! ;) I will muddle through somehow. And when I get tired of having Olinar and co. wind up face first in the dirt, I can switch over to my normal playthrough with fem qunari. Iron Bull has been very patient, after all.

Heh, sorry. Wouldn't want to keep Bull waiting too long, anyway ;)

I'd leave those beacons until you have a specialisation. I did them all at lvl 9ish and it was truly a...nightmare ( B) ) even with bees and Antivan fire. The early levels are the hardest. Once you get to Skyhold things get much easier. That more helpful? Or at least give you something to look forward to, hopefully? :P

Hmm... I've seen Cassandra ten years into the future, full of red lyrium, but not Sera. Iron Bull looks decidedly demonic.

Sera's future thing was one of my favourites, along with Cassandra's. Spoilers for Sera's under a cut, just in case you'd rather bring her on your own next PT :)

Spoiler

So...while Dofni is Sitting in Judgement at Skyhold, it seems her feet do indeed touch the floor... well, her toes do at least. Here, she was about to judge Servis (made him a smuggler for the Inquisition), and this was the only camera angle where you can see her feet.
