I'm waiting too. Mainly for any updates on the status of mods and the game, but this is added incentive. Some people are suspecting that EA/Bioware is deliberately trying to make it so the game's not compatible with mods (i.e. because why would someone pay for a DLC to alter stuff like the Skyhold outfit if there are mods for it already?)- I'm hoping that isn't the case. I'd hate to stay on patch 5 and miss out on additional content, but I'm willing to wait.
I feel for the players who have no choice but to wait, though.
.
I don't know if I need this DLC?
I need story. Not collecting herbs and doing quests with no relation to the main story.
But let's look at it from another angle.
Why do I feel something is wrong or missing?
Your main choices of importance in Dragon Age Inquisition are basically very few:
1. Side with Templars or Mages (conscript or ally)?
2. Who shall be the new Divine?
3. Who shall rule Orlais?
4. Kick the wardens or ally with them (Hawke or Warden)?
Then you have some minor choices that might have influence on a sequel or eventual expansion:
Did you make friends with everyone? Especially Solas?
Did Morrigan drink from the Well?
Did you ally with the Qun?
Did you make Cole more human?
The story starts very well. Bioware/Hollywood style. You meet the first companions and end up i Haven where you are greated as a semi god. Then the collecting starts. And killing enemies and close rifts. You fetch the new companions. Some more collecting, killing enemies and closing rifts.
The grande finale of the game is actually when Haven is destroyed and you end up in Skyhold. From this point on it's a lot of collecting, doing fetch quests and closing rifts wich has no influence on the outcome.
And then... you collect some more, take a couple of keeps to make you feel like a conquerer, close some more rifts.
When you finally chose Wicked Eyes and Wicked Hearts the story continues. You have just spend at least 40 hours on non-interesting fetch quests and collecting herbs. Like accompanying a cow to its owner, collecting shards and mosaics etc.
The finale was...ok? I don't know. I can't say. I don't know what to think. Morrigan turns up to meet Flemeth and drink from the Well. You get control over a dragon to be able to remove Corypheus. Job done, a little more Hollywood and a dinner with candlelights. And goodbye. All is quiet.
I DO hope there will be an expansion or two that can give me the feeling of something special. Something great.
I compare with Mass Effect. I possibly shouldn't? Mass Effect was an epic story with very strong and defined characters, intense dialogues and a heartbreaking but grand lovestory with Liara T'Soni. Everything in this trilogy was just great. Well, apart from the planet scanning...
It's hard to create a game with an equal success I think.
Let's see if any eventual expansions can give the game the kick it needs.
It's a fantastic beautiful game. The graphics and the sound/ambience. The movement is noting like I've encountered before. But there's no point in listing all the technical finesses. It's one step forward in gaming experience and history. No doubt.
My thoughts are that the reason many feel they are missing something is the fact that the game is so realistic in many ways that we reach the next step in Maslow's hierarchy of needs. We very quickly adjust and accept thing we feel should be as they are and head on to the next step. We tend not to be greatful for things we feel should be naturally there. Something slips past our senses.
I think the game is made so well that it awakens a need for more. That is why I'm not satisfied. The story doesn't fit the high technical standards. Something is akward. The game is beautiful, but the story is thin compared to it.
Is that a thought?
Did Bioware use too much effort on the graphics, the techinal side and less on the story? And in the process did they fill the game with collecting and fetch quests to make it last?
Maybe they have a plan. Companies that successful usually do. Are they cooking something great on the stove?
Is Corypheus really the epic big bad guy? He doesn't feel like it.
What's with Solas and Morrigan?
I don't know. I have a sense of Dragon Age Inquisition is just the entrance to something?
