I was ready to start my playthrough as a male when I downloaded an update
version 1.06
Dragon Age Inquisition dlc and patches
658mb
Is this right? An update that is that large? It can't be for the dlc, can it? I play on the ps3 and the dlc won't be available till May last I checked.
For now I won't worry about it. I will continue with Linda Shepard's adventure in ME3
It's probably setting up for DLC, yeah. They did that with patch 5, too.
The next time I use AWR's voice set I will have to import a male Hawke. Otherwise, IQ and Hawke sound exactly the same to me. I don't like how Hawke sounds in DAI. I'm not sure what kind of voice direction she was getting but she just doesn't sound right. Or maybe I just need to play DA2 again to be reminded that she really does sound like that.
But...but...Jo Wyatt
They do sound a bit alike, but perhaps you should play DA2 again. You know, for science...

Mostly fixes for bugs caused by the DLC and (PC only) mouse-look. Also read the note about Tier 4 metals from the DLC -- don't build shields with them.

I finished the Dragon Hunter collection quest at Level 19. This was the first practice run in my self-made challenge: what's the lowest level I can attain and still finish the Dragon Hunter collection on Nightmare?
I begin from first attaining Skyhold and do no quests other than those necessary to complete the Dragon Hunting collection. I attained Skyhold at Level 8, a bit higher than I think is necessary.
Level 15 is the theoretical minimum for dispatching all the dragons, assuming Skyhold can be attained at one experience point over the minimum for Level 7, and then adding up all the base + bonus experience points for killing dragons. That's assuming the Red Water quest to get to Vinsomer is bypassed, otherwise the minimum is Level 16.
I made a lot of mistakes on the first run (don't click on the Read This items -- anything that gives you XP is the enemy!), so I'm sure I can knock at least one level off of that finish, if not two.

I had a bit of trouble too at first, but when I played DA2 again, Hawke really does have the same voice she has in DAI. I just got so used to my IQ that I forgot Hawke's voice.
Also, IQ using some of the same lines as Hawke:
Hawke to Varric, IQ to Dorian:
"You're asking me to take a lot on faith"
Hawke to Varric, IQ to Varric:
"You named your crossbow Bianca?"
There's a few more too.
Also, IQ says to Alexius "your men are dead" and Fenris says that too when you first meet him.

Congrats! Out of curiousity, how did you get the required power? Seems like requisitions would be the best way, as far as not getting xp, but that would take ages. And be rather tedious. And some of the materials would be useful for crafting, if you didn't want to use loot gear.

You get some just by the sequence of quests to get to Skyhold, particularly quests to get agents for Perks, but yes, after that it's doing a lot of low/no XP farming for requisitions. Then once you have 6 Influence, you do Power for a Price and it gets much easier after that.
Most of the puzzle-solving-planning fun is squeezing the most out of Influence and Power and Perks while minimizing XP. It's a challenge.
EDIT: It actually wasn't that tedious. I think I only had to do two requisitions to make up for power/influence that I hadn't achieved by the time I needed it. Farming for Tier 3 schematics was much more tedious. RNG hates me.
As I was passing judgement on Lord dirtbag and Ser Ruth, I realized what my biggest complaint is.
Why can't I recruit someone as a compnion who was brought before me to be judged? Too bad that wasn't possible.
Has anyone tried the fade touched lurker scale? It has a 10% chance to cast Veilstrike on hit. I have it on my staff. Very good. The place to find this is in the Hissing Wastes in the northwest area
I was playing around with the tint thing and realized I can't have my armor black. That stinks. Oh well.
Favourite judgement-in-waiting- recruit? Morvran (sp?), the Avvar Chieftain. Take him to the winter palace, and he could spend the whole time finding out where different nobles live, so he could fling goats at their estates... on behalf of the Inquisition, of course
EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add: The obsidian tint makes a pretty decent-looking black armor once you get it out into good lighting.
I prefer Harry Hadden-Patton (British accent), but if you're playing a more rugged character, Jon Curry did quite a good job, too. AWR is still my favourite, but they're all pretty good
Edit to fix spelling that autocorrect "fixed"
Is the game still bugged so that the voice auto-reverts to the default voice at a certain time? I'd read about that somewhere.

HA! I knew I'd heard that somewhere before. Wonder if it made Varric feel nostalgic? I bet he gets asked that a lot, though.
Mods are working again for me with patch 6 and the DLC, so I'm going to start a new game and have some fun!
Woo. Good news

It's a bit dark, but here's my IQ in the Old Temple in the DLC with her elf PJ's from Nexus (green top). Don't mind the words lol it's that damn guy chanting. He won't shut up and repeats this chant over and over while I literally freeze my butt off trying to find him! And I just realized Dorian is a bit too close to the fire. LOL and OMG I just noticed the dragon behind me! LOL

I really need to romance Fenris again, to get the stench of Seb and Anders out of my system. I mean, yeah, for science....
Actually, Seb wasn't that bad (other than lack of content); the main problem was I hated my Hawke in that game.
*shudders* Anders... He was my first romance in DA2. Not long after starting, I was having second thoughts. Saw it through and... let's just say I stick to Isabela, Fenris and Merrill now. I'll take fun times, puppy eyes, and a cutie pie any day over that... fellow.

Oh wow! I wonder if Grunt was originally supposed to be seen fighting on Earth? Like an encounter as Shepard is going through the mission.

Perhaps I was merely tired? I went back today and defeated the DLC. Bosses were rather easy. Beautiful story! I love all the parallels to my IQ and her companions (even Dorian pointed it out, and Cassandra too)! I can't wait to play a new game and try new things!

I had intended to romance Anders my first game, since he was (supposedly) a known quantity, and had started down that path. Then, I met Fenris. Dumped Anders so fast I'm sure there were skid marks. The Hawke that's my avatar pic is the unlucky one who ended up with Anders. She got left in the Fade in DAI.

So, Jaws of Hakkon DLC is awesome (just say'n) and not easy, even on normal (YAY). And your original companions are with you and have things to say about what's happening (so fantastic, I just can't find the right words). And, LORE everywhere!!! The environments are gorgeous as well. Yup, I liked the DLC.
So without further ado: what I did today in Thedas (under spoiler tag for new DLC complete playthrough -although I left a lot out): Elinan Lavellan - Double Dagger rogue/assassin and Solasmancer takes place after breakup and before final battle with Corypheus.
Spoiler
With Leliana's spies trying to locate Corypheus the Inquisition was poised for a battle that might take weeks or months to manifest. Thus Elinan was grateful when she received word that the resting place of the first Inquisitor might be worth investigating. With visions of slogging through the muck in the Fallow Mire in mind she packed her best waterproof gear and summoned her core team of Mutually Respectful Moral and Theological Debate (Cass, Cole and Solas) as the best suited to conduct an investigation into the origins of the Inquisition (even though she was tempted to leave Mr. we can't be together and take Dorian instead for more fun).
Arriving in the Frostback Basin she was pleasantly surprised by the vast ancient forests and rugged terrain. The humid air off the lake and the swamp did add an extra bite to the wind, fortunately the deep valleys and massive trees meant the wind was of little concern. The bookish Orlesian professor seemed to have far more conjecture than facts relating to the life of the first Inquisitor, turning the mission into an intriguing puzzle. After wandering about to get the lay of the land (and establish a couple of remote camps) Elinan and company began looking for a boat to access the island the professor had mentioned. Acquiring the boat involved making contact with the local Avvar tribe. Elinan was relieved to find the tribe as a whole was much more akin to Sky Watcher than to the upstart who had imprisoned Inquisition soldiers just because he wanted a fight. To gain the tribe's trust Elinan went out of her way to help in any way she could - although the use of the boat required no more than a simple request.
Before embarking on her tasks to gain trust, Elinan made use of the now available boat and rowed across to the island. There a spirit maintained an ancient fade rift and recounted the tale of Ameridan's companion and lover. The woman's belongings were respectfully gathered and the party remained on the island until Elinan had buried the Elvhen woman beneath the roots of one of the few trees on the island. The delay brought an attack by the Avvar tribe known as the Jaws of Hakkon, a group of dangerous fanatics who seemed to believe only in war.
Speaking with the Avvar and traveling through the Basin the group had a number of encounters that made them question their current views on the nature of spirits, demons and the danger of abominations. Solas said little but Elinan felt there was a bit more smug superiority in the looks he gave Cassandra as the friendly nature of the Avvar's interaction with spirits came to light.
Many miles of trails later with only a few mishaps (Elinan will never understand why her companions can't follow basic instructions like "hold position" and decide instead to follow her across fallen trees hundreds of feet above the forest floor - to loot a lousy 260 gold no less), the Stone-Bear Tribe was a firm ally of the Inquisition and a number of minor mysteries had been cleared up. Finally it was time to assault the Jaws of Hakkon.
The ice fortress was COLD! But the treasure trove of information more than made the minor frostbite worth it. And to find out Ameridan was a Dalish mage, priceless. Elinan could have wept as the mischance that may have changed the history of her people. Cassandra also learned some hard truths, but she was able to accept them and they solidified her goal to reform the Seekers and steer them back on a better course. Solas seemed little surprised, of course he had seen it all in the fade at some point - hadn't he.....?
And, dragon. Of course, there would have to be a dragon. A great big ICE DRAGON, with the spirit of an Avvar god inside. What is with the god thing? Elinan had had enough - Corypheus wanted to be a god, Flemeth was inhabited by Mythal, Archdemons, and now an Avvar dragon god. Well, dragon gods die just like anything else with sufficiently ice resistant armor and sharp steel, a few handy spells and a bold scout with a bow. The Avvar god spirit flew free from the dead hulk of the dragon, its flight a celebration of freedom. Elinan caught Solas watching the departing spirit with an odd expression but he refused to say anything of his thoughts (I'm breaking the 4th wall and wanting to throttle our darling Fen'Harel at this point). Poor Elinan, what she doesn't know.... Harding's well placed arrow at the end of the fight was the final cement to her friendship with Elinan (lifeward amulets covered in gurgut blood and elfroot obsession not withstanding).
Efforts were made to gather the last of Ameridan's memories, again Solas seemed particularly affected by the memories of Ameridan's love and Cole helped him across the rickety boat dock when they returned to the mainland (I wish I was good at screenshots - for a moment it looked like Cole had his arm around Solas comforting him- not a dignified pose for the Dread Wolf). At last all the memories were recovered and Elinan and her companions returned to Skyhold to prepare for the final confrontation with Corypheus.

I didn't like Anders in Awakening at all. He's a couple cans short of a six-pack. In DA2, its all about him. Its either his way or the highway. If you agree with him on everything but one thing, he will believe you're against him. What I do is ignore him the whole game after I recruit him.

And no, I think they fixed the voice changing bug with patch 4. I never had a problem with it, though, so I can't be sure - it was in the patch notes, I believe.
In other news, I was thinking of farming T3 schematics on a couple of my ps3 saves before I update to the latest patch for MP. Any recommendations for locations to do so or schematics to keep an eye out for? Battlemage gear is at the top of the list, and I have a good idea for a couple of the daggers I'd like, but otherwise I'll just be doing it because I can now and won't when I update

That's smart. I begun to appreciate Merrill more as an mage when I dumped Anders for her during Act 2 ownards. I did miss the healing though.
Today I just did Cullen personal quest. Damn, I forgot how long it takes to make all those war table missions to track Samson down. I also managed to recruit the dalish guy by sheer dumb luck. I totally thought I was going to fail after getting caught stealing from the graves and telling the girl her brother became an blood mage (I was actually pretty upset with that one. So I'm a bad person for being honest? Screw you Dalish jerks!).
I also slew all the 3 High dragons at the Emprise du Lion on a row. No restock. The final one was pretty intense considering I had no potions left after the previous two. The team just unleashed hell with their focus based abilities and it felt glorious.

Not much to report. I forgot to mention in my previous post when I played Chasimess I did the mother of fade portals mission in Crestwood. Holy cheese and nuggets was it a pickle (I am putting this mildly). My allies were not co-operating, I had few regeneration potions, and refilling my potions was pointless. Somehow I pulled it off. however recently I went to the Crestwood mayors place and read his note and did the "Find Crestwood's mayor" WAR TABLE mission and judges him (*makes a throat slit sound*). Then i went to Hinderlands and crushed the final portal. I had crazy issues with it since level 12 and it seemed like no matter if I was at level 13-15 I couldn't get it done (at 15 it went from 11 to 15). Finally at level 16 and juicing Blackwall and Iron Bull with Rock Armor potions I crushed it. I then wound up taking a break with Sera:
Spoiler
Then I wound up working on the story in Western Approach. I came across a nasty glitch during the cinematic there which I wasn't happy about:
.
Because of this 'glitch" i couldn't get the mouse back on my XBOX 360 controller so I had to shut off my system and reboot it. I also had to snag my last three "dragon spots" again for the one side quest but oh well.
Spoiler
So the evil grey warden dude talks to us and tries to get Chasimess and her posse to join up with him. Chasimess said no and I beat his group down.
Lightwind Demoir wasn't a happy camper about Chasimess or Stroud. It was a bit confusing on where her anger was going but obviously it was because of her whole mother dieing at her hands caused by a blood mage making her a zombie.
So Stroud mediated with Chasimess and Lightwind and told us where to go next.
I found some new gear for my crew but the one slicer I made for Chasimess, the one armor I made for Chasimess, and the one shield I made for Blackwall has yet to be replaced by anything I found.
I love it when the camera angle changes so you're looking up (as a dwarf) or looking down (as a qunari). Really makes you feel like you're one of them. Though it does lead to some awkward camera angles for everyone else involved.
Same here. I especially love it for my Azul Hwallo shots.
I mean seriously...Azul towers over Cassandra. Lol.

I was playing around with the tint thing and realized I can't have my armor black. That stinks. Oh well.
I think I may of but i think I found something better after I got that thing.
I think they just didn't want an abuse of power sort of thing with judgements. "You'll risk your life, get set on fire, trapped physically in the Fade, etc. because I say so" might be crossing a line into something, say, DAO would've done They tried to shy away from the more...morally questionable stuff this time.
I got the FT Lurker scale but haven't used it yet. How's it working for you as a mage? I haven't actually done Rift mage yet so I'm not sure how helpful weakening is as a mage.
There's a few that get close to black. Great Bear Hide, I think? Obsidian and Onyx, too. Not sure about cloth but there's gotta be something.
I got Rift Mage on my female human mage and it was worth the hours of fustration trying to get it. Most of the abilities not only knockback or cause things to happen but they debuff defences to after the target gets hit. I cannot remember what abilities I have with it but I know at least for Solas with her I got him all and the meteor strike hurts a-lot despite being in a small circle which tends to be a pain to use on High Dragons.
...but yet you can make these people tranquil.
If you do that this will hurt your relationship with Dorian. as i said in one of my posts on this thread frankly I personally feel spareing Alexius for researching magic is a better idea because he gives you a WAR TABLE mission that gives you a ENHANCED COOLDOWN AMULET. I have been rocking with this with Chasimess since I got it. Abilities like HIDDEN BLADE seem to take barely 15-130 seconds to recharge so I can plow a group of wimp heads or bosses like nothing almost. I just cloak, hidden blade, shadow strike, whack to recharge meter, cloak, repeat. No regrets on not killing Alexius.
As a knight enchanter, it works great. It knocks most enemies on the ground for a few seconds.
Knight Enchanter seemed ok to me. I only slightly dabbled into it with Vivianne and I felt she was using it wrong by thinking she's a warrior not a mage when she's a mage not a warrior. i am conteplating on giving it to Azul Hwallo though. Necromancer or Rift Mage doesn't sound like a Qunari mage.
I still haven't recruited Vivienne this playthrough. Since I never take her anywhere anyway I'm not missing much, but the upstairs area of Skyhold is completely bare other than the mosaics on the walls.
Didn't do much last night. Took out the Red Templars on the Storm Coast, then decided to see where the boat would take us. I thought Vinsomer was a level 17 dragon but nope....she's level 19. Then since they were there already I thought, eh, why not give it a go? That didn't work out so well. I think I got her down by like 25% before the team wiped. They were only level 15, with Jaega at 16. So, they'll come back for Vinsomer later. Still got a couple of pics though. From very, very far away. I used tac cam for the close-up.
Spoiler
Jaega still didn't want to go back to the Plains so she took her squad out to the Western Approach instead. Closed a couple of rifts, killed a few packs of hyenas and quillbacks, and set up the camp next the Frederic. He seems to think there's a dragon in the area, so trying to find her should be fun. Oh, and the Venatori and Wardens too.
Then I got bored and decided to create a new character, whom I intend* to have romance Cassandra. For my world state I imported my two original characters from DAO and DA2. Auriel Cousland never met Leliana or Sten, and Wynne was killed at the Circle. She married Alistair and became Queen. Marian Hawke romanced Fenris, never met Sebastian or Tallis, and sided with the mages at Kirkwall.
So, here is Marcus Trevelyan, 2H warrior. He's going to really have it in for Coryfish since his sister (mage Julia Trevelyan, Inqui in an alternate universe) was killed at the Conclave.
Spoiler
*I can't help it if he gets distracted by Dorian along the way.
I took Vivianne for my first playthrough and I liked her a-lot. Her conversations were kind of mean spirited but when I got over that I liked taking her along to everywhere I went. I was also amazed on how she was handling the inquisitions politics despite me kind of sort of not being aware of it. I was happy to make her divine.
That's...a very good point. Maybe they figure, given what some of them have done, it's justified? Not to mention that it's reversible. We even have a spirit hanging around Skyhold, though I suppose if you're going to make someone Tranquil, you're not thinking about that...
So basically, taking away someone's emotions and dreams is better than slavery? Or they just didn't think you'd want to trust anyone you judge and make a companion. I don't know. It's an interesting idea, though; Ser Ruth could've been a good one to have as a companion.
I've never actually made anyone Tranquil, as far as I can remember. Maybe Alexius once, just to see it?
I made Alexius and the evil grey warden guy tranquil and as i mentioned before i hurt Dorian's feelings because Dorian said "if you're going to take anyones emotions away you're better off just killing them. The thought of that I find rather monsterous." I am familiar with tranquil's and I remember back in DAO there was the one guy in the mage tower in the mage Origin's. He seemed nice despite sounding like a robot. I know in DA 2 you can make Feyrinl one if you wish and he wound sound like one too. Merdeth makes one that sounds a teeny tiny bit like one. I know Cassandra said she use to be one too because I remember in the anime movie she was dead fudjin serious nonstop through the whole thing but progressively like she said slowly bust surely was getting her emotions back.
I usually choose the voice that will match my character's face. My dwarf would not go with the British accent voice, obviously. I wish there was at least 4 voices, and one of them would be low and still have an accent. DA:O's voices were so good even though you'd never hear it beyond the creation screen. Something like that, and I'd be set.
Same here. However when I made my qunari male 2h soldier the two voices didn't sound like the way I made him so I tossed him immediately. As i said in another thread (or if not this one) to me traditionally qunari men sound deep voice people. Check out Sten in DAO, the Arishock in DA 2 and Iron Bull in DAI. To me the two male tracks are no where near qunari.
