Continued the DLC with a lv 26 assassin Maxwell on Nightmare...
 
FINALLY MANAGED TO DO THE GURD BATTLE!!!  only took me on and off 8 days. The party was with Varric, Bull and Vivienne and got very lucky by mainly surviving through the confusion grenades. The inquisitor now has some snazzy armour and escaped the temple. In preparation of the next battle, the inquisitor reshuffled the team to Vivienne, Cassandra and Blackwall and the Hakkon battle went smoothly in one attempt. The inquisitor returned to the Avvar village for the judgment scene and chose the pun option  and spoke to the chief about her name which I thought was funny as well . 
 
Then looked at the achievements thinking that it would still be at 100% but it wasn't!!!  (my completionist side isn't happy). There is one achievement about lighting the fires/destroying winter shards and I had completed about 60%. So the inquisitor went back to the temple and managed to light all the fires possible and the percentage is still only at 92%. I realise now that I should have destroyed all the winter wards while I had the chance. 
 
I don't have any previous saves before the temple so I could use this as an excuse reason to start from the beginning again or just get the achievement through the evil inquisitor playthrough. 
 
All this aside I did enjoy the DLC the environment, the difficulty and the new lore .

Congrats! I wondered how you were doing with that. I salute your perseverance....I think I would have given up if it took me more than 2 days.

 
Jaega's gravity-defying adventures continue:

Not quite sure how this happened. I think maybe I had selected another character to control and she did a Leaping Shot on her own. I had the game paused and when I went back to her, there she was! This is in Din'an Hanin.

Not sure if you can tell from this pic, but the dead guy and loot are floating in mid-air. I tried jumping with both Jaega and Cass but they couldn't get it. Finally jumped with IB and hit "F" at just the right time to snag it.

Cass: I know you've been flirting with me Inquisitor, but before anything happens between us, I like to know more about you since you know a lot about me.

me: Fair enough. Lets see. Since  a young age I've had a good singing voice. My parents sent me to bard school to become a singer and later I travelled around Thedas singing at taverns. In one of those taverns I met my future wife. Yes I said wife. Her name is Priscilla. A short time after we got married, she gave birth to our daughter, Lisa Marie.

Cass: Wow. I had no idea

me: Let me finish.  While my wife and child stayed home, I kept travelling all over Thedas singing. I was making good coin and used it to support both. Of course with me travelling a lot, I wasn't at home being a husband and father. We decided it would be best to divorce. My former wife and I remain as friends and I see my daughter a lot more than before. During my travels, I met folks who trained me to use a bow. I always like them and just wanted to shoot an arrow. Over time I became very good and that is why you see me handle a bow like I do. 

Cass: A singer uh? Let me hear a song

me: This is something I wrote for my wife

Cass: Is it hot in here or is it just me?

me: That's what a lot of women would say at the taverns I sang at.

Cass: I'm impressed. If you don't kiss me now, I will kill you

me: When you put it that way, how can I refuse?

 

I'm locked in with Cassandra for my romance. Cool.

My party for the game is me, Cass, Sera and Dorian.  Playing on nightmare mode

 

All 4 have fade-touched silverite - when hit gain 5 guard

 

me, Cass and Sera have fade-touched plushed fustian velvet - 10% chance to use hidden blades on hit with 5 added hits

 

for Cass and Dorian's weapon both have fade-touched silverite - 10% chance to inflict chain lightning damage at 100% weapon damage

 

Cass has a lightning rune, I have a fire rune, Sera has a frost rune and Dorian a spirit rune

 

This is the fun part. At times I've see  an enemy get hidden blades from the three of us along with all the lightning damage and walking bomb from Dorian that effects nearby enemies for some really exploding moments. I killed the dragon in the Emerald graves very easily. 

 

With the setup I have, no one has taken any damage that is even noteworthy. The only damage I've taken is from the flying rock from a giant. Those things are like guided missiles.

 

A few minutes ago I met Hawke and Stroud in the Western Approach. I will head to Adamant either later today or tomorrow.

Have you tinted the inquisitor's boots to give the 'blue suede shoes' effect or created a weapon and renamed it 'heartbreak hotel'?

 

This has made me think about song reference replies as well:

So I managed to force the game not to crash by skipping the first cutscene (where you walk out of the Fade). 

On PC? If you are, I have the same problem, crashes during cutscenes. You can fix it by going into Settings > Graphics and reducing Shader Quality to Low if you are on the latest patch. If you are on an earlier patch, it's Mesh Quality set to Low. It makes all the characters hair look like plastic, but that's better than crashing.

More Dragon Hunter Challenge: How low can you go?

 

Spent time preparing for a visit to Therinfal Redoubt. For yucks, I counted up all the materials I'd need for a full set of T2 gear for mage IQ, Cass, Sera and Solas. Poor Solas usually gets hand-me-downs, but not this time.

 

Cloth: 112

 

Leather: 66

 

Metal: 123

 

I almost had all of that covered just from incidental farming. I had to buy some additional leather from the Crossroads merchant -- I don't have the luxury of farming critters, since that generates XP. I also had to farm some drakestone, sneaking behind some wandering apostates to do so. But that's it.

I popped onto DAI late last night to mess around with the character creator. Made an female elf and a male human. Since neither are connected to a world state, I didn't save them. Today, I set up world states and tried to re-make them.

 

This face sums it up: 

"I think the nose is wrong."

"Are the cheekbones too wide or too narrow?"

"The nose is definitely wrong."

"These are the right eyes, but it doesn't look the same..."

"Is it because the nose is wrong?"

 

Note to future self: don't be lazy, take screenshots of all sliders! 

 

Edit: On the plus side, I realised today that the reason my BSN avatar is always so blurry is because it was a jpeg and not png. Silly!

I know the feeling. When I went to create Marcus the first time I realized I didn't have the Keep set up right, so I didn't even bother. Once that was done, I then made darn sure the frame-rate fix command was removed so he wouldn't get stuck in the Fade like Olinar did (twice ).

 

It sure would be nice if there was an autosave or something once you click OK but before the cutscene starts.

Amen to that! Or at least do what was done in ME2 and generate a character creator code that can be saved.

Face codes would be wonderful! I recreated Eirin twice, once on ps3 and once on ps4, and I still don't think I ever managed to get her looking the same as my first playthrough. Meanwhile, after two years, I managed to get my Shepard exactly the same, down to every detail, even without a code or checking to see what she actually looked like... It's doubtful since it seems to be pretty complicated at this point, but maybe that'll be something they add with Black Emporium. Replaying your favourite Inkys would be great. Not to mention a few, ahem, fun 'quizzies I'd never be able to replicate myself. Like, say, Nigel Thornberry

me: How about that? The divine is a fan. Would you like an autograph?

fake divine: I would. Can you sign my hat? You will encounter the Nightmare. The only way to defeat it is with your voice. Once defeated, you only have a few moments to get back to your world. Follow me.

 

Nightmare: What's this? Stop that singing.

me: Haha. My favorite song

me: He stayed behind. He wanted to leave a recording of my song in the fade. He will be joining us soon

I went to Crestwood and dealt with the undead and killed the dragon

 

Went to Emprise du Lion and defeated one of the dragons

 

Help Iron Bull with his quest. This playthrough I saved the chargers. First time I did that. I believe it was lame that we couldn't save both the chargers and the dreadnought

 

I'm at level 21 and might reach level 22 before dealing with Celene

Yesterday I beat the Jaws of Hakkon DLC and then went through the Arbor Wilds.

More and more, Liam Trev is wishing he had played hooky and skipped the Conclave. This Inquisition business is becoming dangerous for his health.

 

First he and the mages he conscripted went to close the huge hole in the sky.

They were successful but the celebration was short lived. An army was marching down on Haven.

Apparently someone called The Elder One didn't appreciate his mages being taken. He sent an army. Liam, Cass, Dorian, and Sera crushed them.

But then a dragon showed up. It wasn't pretty. They decided to save everyone they could and bury Haven along with the dragon and The Elder One. The Elder One was there for one reason- the anchor on Liam's hand.

By the skin of his teeth Liam escaped. Solas helped him find a new settlement for the Inquisition.

Cass and Leliana decided the Inquisition had found its leader.

After he made sure everyone was okay, he met a friend of Varric's who had experience with The Elder One.

The Champion had a warden friend the Inquisitor needed to meet so they were off to Crestwood.

Jaega is all done in the Hissing Wastes and Emprise du Lion. Spent most of yesterday killing Red Templars and dragons. Took a bit of a time-out for a game of Wicked Grace and a quick trip to Valence with Leliana. Also helped Cole become more like a person. Sorry Solas.

I really wish we could hear the entire story the Inquisitor tells during the game. I have no imagination in order to fill in the blanks.

Capturing Suledin Keep. I love how Cass' armor looks; it's the Armor of the Knights-Divine tinted with Nevarrite.

And, the three-for-one special in Emprise du Lion. Hurry, sale ends soon! Had to fight Hivernal twice since she bugged out and wouldn't die the first time. Not sure why that keeps happening. Thought Kalty was doing the same but turns out she just had an extra-long death scene. Big ol' ham that she is. I sort of cheated with the Ravager and hit her with a tier 3 Thousand Cuts right off the bat which took her down to half health. Total time to kill all 3 dragons: about 45 minutes. I love easy mode!

Now there's just a bit of clean up to do before heading to the Arbor Wilds. Will hopefully finish up today and then play the DLC as a post-saving-the-world adventure.

Got the weekend challenge done last night in multiplayer - I think I won't be playing on Perilous difficulty on anything other than my Arcane Warrior. As for the single-player campaign, I moved on to the Hissing Wastes after getting all my shards at the Forbidden Oasis!

I'm a lazy guy, and I tend not to give roleplay much thought in the first 5 hours of gameplay.

Later on, I came up with this story about how my Dalish elf disobeyed the Keeper and killed a few humans as an act of revenge.

As a result, the clan was attacked and some elves died. She's been shunned by everyone there since then. It was only because the Keeper and her siblings insisted that she was convinced not to leave.

So today I remembered that back in Haven I had her tell Cassandra she'd like to return once everything is back to normal. It would've made more sense to pick the "I hated it there" option.

To get myself to level 22, I closed a lot of rifts and killed a dragon.

 

Had fun with Sera pulling pranks on characters.

 

The dragon  above that I killed was The Kaltenzahn in Emprise du Lion. This was the second time I kiiled the dragon since I downloaded the patches. Before the patches, I had a heck of a time killing this dragon especially when she called for her children, but on both occasions, after the patches, she only called for them once and that was just before she died. Is this the case with anyone else? I liked that she called her children. It made it more challenging

Hmm, I don't think that was the case. I seem to remember them showing up a couple of times in my fight with her yesterday. I think the first call is when she's at about half health. Maybe her health is going down too fast and it misses the trigger?

That's possible though I did nothing different when fighting the dragon from any playthrough before the patches. Its not that big of a deal, just something I noticed

I didn't recruit Vivienne (first time I didn't recruit someone) and I never talked to Blackwall after WEWH in order to trigger "Revelations" (I didn't want to hear the sad dog story). He was still around for the post-battle party though.

 

I didn't buy any influence/power, but I did buy the mystery box and all the beds/drapes/glass. Found all the mosaics and bottles, but after harvesting hundreds of deathroots, still couldn't come across a single seed.  Also missing crystal grace and dragonthorn seeds.

 

My go-to party was Bull, Cassandra, and Dorian.

 

Next up: Jaws of Hakkon DLC. Cass is looking for (any) excuse to get away so this is just the thing.
