SporkFu, Nightmare is honestly just a pain until you get to Skyhold.  The pride demon at the beginning is terrible - it was basically me just running around to avoid it and cast barrier on myself and try to revive people.  I went the mage path but Alexius is not too bad if you spec your team correctly - I've heard Envy is worse.  The hardest battle after that is Haven.  And put Jar of Bees on everyone and keep cranking the last trebuchet and it will all be okay.  Don't even stop to kill Denam/Fiona.  Goes right to the cutscene.  And I was never one of those people who played on nightmare on any game before :)

You're not inspiring confidence... J/K :P. I mean, if I can survive those three geth Primes on Rannoch eventually, I can surive DA:I, right? Umm...right? My biggest thing about a NM run is that I don't really like the Tac Cam. We're not friends. And on casual you don't really need it except for the odd time that no other method will work to convince Blackwall to focus on the dragon and not the dragonlings.

"The hunger of the many, the pizza for the few, The Champions of the Just, and the easier Hushed Whispers on Nightmare difficulty".

I poked around Hinderlands thinking I could get Corporal Vale as a agent but apparently I can't yet because I need to get the herbist from Red Cliffe. Since I want to do "Champions of the Just" he needs to be on hold. So I decided to ding everyone at level 7 (big mistake) I decided to hop into "Champions of the Just".

Spoiler

In retrospect "IN HUSHED WHISPERS" was a tad bit easier than "CHAMPIONS OF THE JUST" on NIGHTMARE even though "CHAMPIONS OF THE JUST" is shorter than "IN HUSHED WHISPERS". Also I liked how "CHAMPIONS OF THE JUST" had two "Bad Endings".

i am defenetly going to do stuff before the final haven battle. Frankly I still feel i got bloody lucky reaching Skyhold with Chasimess by purely luring the red templars to the chantry then cloak then activate the catapult.

BTW: the doors in the grand hall/officers gaurdhouse are buggy. In the grand hall one of the doors on the right has two highlightable icons where one takes you to the grand hall (where you are right now) and to the officers quarters. On the other side it's the same way. Hopefully they fix this problem and remove the incorrect one.

PS: In the bad ending where the envy demon fully takes your body and has you and your inquisition rule the world according to the ending Cullen, Liliana and Josephine thought being sociapaths is awesome. It never occurred to them that they were doing evil sh**? Lol. i never thought Cullen, Liliana, and Josephine had dark sides. Lol.

You're not inspiring confidence... J/K :P. I mean, if I can survive those three geth Primes on Rannoch eventually, I can surive DA:I, right? Umm...right?

The primes are punks. Oversized tin cans. Throw in some overload, disruptor ammo and femshep, and those primes will be ready to be used to build that new car you always wanted. Hahahaha

The tac cam has worked well for me especially when playing nightmare.

I did notice one thing a couple of playthroughs earlier. After you complete the templar/mage main quest you can start making runes for some extra dps. There should be a vendor in Val Roy that sells blank runestones and if you got some essence from rifts then you can craft that in Haven before you start In your heart shall burn.

Yep. I've made a couple before getting to Skyhold.

Its too bad runes can't be put on armor like in the previous games

ME 3 Huh. Oh ok. I thought this was about DAI but after I read themikefest's post (v) I was like "ME 3? Oh lol. my bad". Yeah Geth Primes can be a pain but frankly if you are an engineer these guys are super easy. For my engineer I always ran with Garrus and Tali (team "no geth"). Mickles Dyson made the whole geth part look easy.

As far as hard difficulties for ME 3 my very first playthrough was the next to the hardest difficulty. Lol. Man going into ME 3 that blind and over confident was quite something. Horizon (the cerberus lab part) was a pain because the phantoms and nemesees can kill you in a single shot if you don't handle them right. Kai Lang was quite something too. He tended to get me while i'm to bloody busy taking cover and killing his annoying cronies.

I do agree about Tac Cam myself. What always kills me is how my inquisitor has to be perfectly 90/# under the portal instead of try busting it where he/she is.

The primes are punks. Oversized tin cans. Throw in some overload, disruptor ammo and femshep, and those primes will be ready to be used to build that new car you always wanted. Hahahaha

Tac Cam on DAI has it's ups and downs. My biggest ups is i can have everyone immediately activate potions in a jiffy problem free as opposed to hop to this guy and try to activate a potion and so on.

Haven/Skyhold has one too. I think it's either a shop or the flag pole (believe it or not it's a store. It sells respeccs and I believe blank runes too).

*Scratches head*.

Grrr...

I barely kicked Malaioniss back up only to lose online connection.

kicker is when i turned on my XBOX 360 I had to download a new system patch. It went well (so I thought) then started DAI then i lost online. According to Xbox.com/servicealerts it's not my connection...it's something having to do with their in general video stuff (XBOX ONE included)...

Anyhoo i'll try to report more if I can when I can. This happened to me not long ago. For a while i thought Bioware was mad at me posting gifs or something lol.

Speaking of that i still haven't been a happy camper about people running around online on ME 3 online with infinity ammo and using guns with no reloading needed.

 Bwahh?? I have never heard of any of this. Please elaborate.

Ooh, you've never found it? Mighty Offense potions are fun! Would not recommend using it with Thousand Cuts if you want a fair fight, though...

There's a nasty little mage wandering around the Apostate's Landing area of the Storm Coast. He drops a key that opens a door in the house at the top of the hill, with some random loot and the Mighty Offense Tonic schematic. My first few playthroughs, he found me or I stumbled upon him and didn't even realise he was a (sort of) random encounter for this. The last playthrough, Revas couldn't figure out how to open the door...then the mage found her wandering around, and, uh, DW rogues on NM at a much lower level than mean mages do not work out well in the whole not-dying department

If you'd like a look at the map for the room itself, I can dust off Revas for a screenie, but you'll pretty much just need to wander around looking for trouble if you want the mage. Just ask Hawke, mages are always trouble

Wow. I'm the kinda gamer who loots every possible little thing I can find, and I know that if i encountered this mage in any of my previous games I would have looted that key. I'm positive I've found the house, and I'm pretty sure I've found the locked door, couldn't open it, then put it out of my mind thinking I'd get the key somewhere later, then didn't get the key, and just never went back.

Gah. I wonder if I went back to the Coast now, maybe Kubrie would succeed where my other Inkys failed. She's already better than any of them for defeating the demons at the river rift while being underpowered. And it wouldn't be too much of a detour on the way to the Fallow Mire I know it's in the opposite direction from Haven Shhh loot makes distance irrelevant. .

Thanks for the info everybody

Wowie, look at what I started! Then you all had fun without me while I was sleeping and working. Sleeping at work? Nah, too busy. :P

This was the first game where I found the cabin, I'm pretty sure. I looked all over the Coast for the mage guy last game but now I'm thinking maybe he doesn't even spawn until you find the locked door in his house? Anyway, I'm a happy camper to have finally unlocked the tonic since Marcus is a 2H warrior stud and he's going to need that extra oomph for showing off demon-bashing exploits. ;)

Jeez, the more I hear about nightmare difficulty, the more it sounds like a ...well... you know. But thanks, I'll post an update soon.

NM was a pain at early levels, no doubt, especially as a squishy mage. But, just like Insanity in ME3, it made me change how I played. For instance I altered the order I picked up some perks, going for more health potions and the extra potion slot earlier than before. Upgraded grenades and tonics are a must. I spent much more time crafting armor and weapons than I did in previous games. I also tried to get in more sneak attacks from range before the enemy knew I was there. With tac cam, mostly I just used it to see enemy weaknesses before I engaged them so I could change things up if necessary. Usually it wasn't but it was good to check anyway. Also, locations since archers and mages tend to hide. Olinar was a pretty well-rounded mage as far as types of damage he could do. Plus he had his KE light-saber for guard-smashing.

In the base game, the initial pride demon, Haven trebuchet, and early-encountered terrors were the toughest. After that, especially once I got my specialization, battles weren't so bad. Until the DLC but that's spoiler territory.

Spoiler

Besides, you know you want to get ALL the achievements, right? :P

Having heard a rumor of a strange mage still wandering the Storm Coast right after she'd finished conscripting them all into the Inquisition, Kubrie decided this aggression would not stand. First, she went calling at his house, but no one was home. Worse, he'd left a locked door, which is a challenge to any self-respecting looter, but the lock couldn't be picked, which is an affront to any self-respecting looter.
Spoiler

So, the gang -- Blackwall in place of Varric this time, and Vivienne in place of Solas -- went in search of the renegade mage and the key to the locked door.
Spoiler

He wasn't in the Astrarium Cave.
Spoiler

Nor disguised as a Mabari.
Spoiler

Nor down this path, which looked vaguely familiar...
Spoiler

... because it led to the Cabin they had just started from. Crap.
Spoiler

Kubrie wished Varric were here right now. He'd say something clever about how they meant to return to the cabin in case the mage had come back.... or something. Sigh. Bull tried his best and struck up a conversation that went like this:

Iron Bull: Hey Blackwall. What's the most limbs you've ever cut off something in one swing?
Blackwall: For the Wardens, battle is a sacred duty, a vigil kept to guard the world against destruction. It's not a game.
Iron Bull: Right. Same here.
Blackwall: Do heads count?
Iron Bull: Heads absolutely count.
Blackwall: Then... three.
Iron Bull: Nice! Down on the collarbone and through, right? That's how I get the good ones.

Well... Kubrie thought it was funny. Maybe it's a Qun'ari thing. Then Vivienne complained that the weather had ruined her outfit and it would have to be replaced. They got back on the trail. As you can see it led them everywhere. I marked the cabin with a waypoint, and just kind of wandered around, actually hoping the mage would be nearby. The quest marker is for one of Blackwall's "Memories of the Grey" which is the reason he's on the quest instead of Varric.
Spoiler

The gang decided it was time to go after those 'memories' and see if they ran into the mage along the way. "We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of... err, the Storm Coast, with the key, for the locked door... *ahem* "
Spoiler

Blackwall says: Looks like the mage isn't at the bottom of this big cliff.
Spoiler

Blackwall says: The mage is probably not in that crevice, either. Just a guess.
Spoiler

Okay shorty, that's it. You're not the least bit charming even if you do fill out that grey warden armor nicely and your beard is strangely alluring. You can go hang out with the horses from now on, get me?
Spoiler

We still haven't found the mage, but we did get the first of Blacwall's 'memories' and continued toward the second. On our way, nearing that Big River, we did find this, which is a first for me. Maybe I'll get the whole collection this time.
Spoiler

Finally, after collecting the second of Blackwall's 'memories', we found the mage, out for a stroll without a care in Thedas. So we killed him. And took his key. And returned to his home. And looted it. Unfortunately, the majority of the fight with the mage was obscured by a giant tree and I didn't get any really good screenies of the battle.
Spoiler
It was a fun little distraction chasing that guy down. We collected a fair bit of summerstone and serpentstone and elfroot, fought some mabari and a couple of bears, and found that bottle of booze that I never knew was there before. Kubrie also reached level 11 and we got a new potion to try out. :D

Thanks, Melbella, for bringing this to my attention. As for this:

Besides, you know you want to get ALL the achievements, right? :P

Pure evil :P ...j/k

Thanks for the tips on NM, from and you and everyone. Maybe I'll try a NM run for the Cullen romance PT.

EDIT: Forgot to add a pic that shows the location of the mage's cabin and our wandering path around it to find the mage. Oops.

You're welcome! It's always fun to find things you haven't before. I am finding all sorts of new stuff at the Storm Coast this game. Tonight I came across a dwarfy cave I'd not seen yet. It's got a pretty decent shield for loot, though my party might be a bit too high level now to use it for long. Location and loot pics below:

Marcus went back to Skyhold to get started on his blood lotus farm, then made a quick trip to Val Royeaux to buy a decent bed and some tonic recipes. He'll be heading for Crestwood next and I foresee a need for lightning resistance in his near future. Back to Skyhold for more talks with certain individuals. I am soooo torn on who to romance this game. Marcus is shamelessly flirting up Cass, Dorian, and Josephine. The latter is extremely clueless, Cass is pretending to ignore it, and Dorian is soaking it up and responding in kind. The peanut gallery at Skyhold is calling him a "committed bachelor" at the moment, and the ladies all sigh wistfully whenever he walks by.

So last night Team Ginger bro cleared out some quests in the Hinterlands including "Well, s#!t" and that one where you take the felandaris to the altar in Dead Ram Grove.  Holden gave Bianca all kinds of side eye  for causing the mess she did, but not too much.  Holden mostly left that up to Varric to chastise his boo.  Then my merry band of killers went to the Hissing Wastes and took out a few rifts, some august rams and all important Gurns to make lovely purple armor.  After that we grudgingly decided to save Blackwall from his fate and sprung him from prison.  We also made Cole into a real boy.  Well, more of a real boy, and played some Wicked Grace.  All of Skyhold now knows that Cullen is a manscaper (seriously, is Varric the only guy who is NOT waxing his chest.. I mean, I don't need a guy to be full on lumberjack but one would think there would be less manscaping in Thedas than in modern America).

Didn't get in that much gaming, yesterday was my 4th wedding anniversary.  There was cake.  And pizza, because that is how my husband and I roll. :)

You can totes do it.  I was not big into tac cam before NM either.  I use it a lot more now.  Even on casual and normal.  It's handy to send my warrior to a demon spawn point at a rift and have him start attacking it and killing it before a demon spawns (assuming said warrior is not Cass who can just spell purge one). I also use it just to see what I am up against and what weaknesses an enemy has.  If I'm far enough away I'll swap out abilities  based on what I am seeing listed as any potential weaknesses.

Honestly NM is really just grinding in the Hinterlands/Storm Coast/Fallow Mire and getting yourself up to level 11 or 12 before taking on the battle of Haven.  Swearsies!

Pizza is the key to life.  And wine.  Copious amounts of wine, oh, or any Cider Boys Hard Cider. This is what I've learned in my 38 years on the planet.  Pizza and wine. And I personally pick my wines based on how pretty the label is.  :)

Rielen and Alistair have set off on their big adventure! With Morrigan in tow! Their first stop is a little town that Morrigan suggests: Lothering. Pretty as a painting. We meet some new friends there, and some not so friendly people. Seems Loghain has been spreading lies about the Wardens, and now there are people trying to kill us. We walk into the tavern and get ambushed nearly immediately. We make quick work of Loghain's men with the help of a Chantry Sister, of all people. She stops us from killing them and Rielen sighs and agrees to let them go (Morrigan's glare may or may not have burned a hole into the back of his little leather armour at that point), telling them to give Loghain a message: we know what he did and we're comin' for him.

Then we meet a charming giant man in a cage. Rielen clearly has no self-preservation instinct and convinces the Chantry leader-lady to let him go. Despite him losing it and killing an entire family. Including the children. Then letting himself get captured and thrown in a cage. What could possibly go wrong?

We do a few favours for a "Chantry board" which has Morrigan disapproving again, but we make up for it by threatening a merchant. Then we're off to...not here? We don't have much of a plan, really. Gather an army, save the world. Sure. Maybe the Circle first? Anyway, on the way out of town, we meet an interesting dwarf with an equally interesting son - Bodahn and Sandal. He asks if he can travel with the Warden and friends and Rielen agrees with the warning that we're probably going to get in over our heads and all die.

Back at camp Rielen made a point to talk to everyone, then went to bed and had weird dreams. This Warden thing's gonna be fun. Guess we're heading off to Lake Calenhad next. Rielen took one look at the map, decided that the lake looking like a bunny, and insisted the Circle Tower would be the first place we visited. For allies. Of course.

Each time I saw the rebel mage I encountered them closest to the first camp established on the Storm Coast. They were walking near or up that hill towards the abandoned cabins where you find the Mercy's Crest schematic & map of the BoH hideout. Once they were alone and the other time they were following some BoH.

I'm going to fire up my other PTs and see if I find the mage closer to their cabin.

Really? I don't recall taking note of where the first several were, but Revas found him in the little valley-ish area east of the house. Guess he really wanders.

Jeez, the more I hear about nightmare difficulty, the more it sounds like a ...well... you know. But thanks, I'll post an update soon.

Dooo iiiit

No, but really, it's not that difficult once you're used to it. As previously stated, that Pride Demon at the start of the game is pretty much the worst thing. Tac-cam's relatively useless regardless, unless you're just checking out enemy conditions and the field. Moving people doesn't help much, since they tend to just decide you're a terrible leader and try to do things their own way anyway (which may or may not lead to their deaths. Guess you're not such a terrible leader then, hm?). I'd say I play solely on NM and don't micromanage, but I do spend quite a lot of time tinkering with custom armour... I also only play on Insanity in ME3, so maybe I'm just a masochist and don't even realise it?

I do agree finding new things is cool. i don't know if you guys ever knew about that conversation in the prolog where your character talks to Cassandra or Solas or varric about your origins? Basically before you go up the one hill where Varric goes "So are you innocent?" keep going west past a burning house (or search it to get some stuff) and you'll reach a dead end with two lesser shades and one greater shades. beat them and your allies will start a conversation about your character's origins. Like for an example:

Spoiler

Shortly after the conversation on your way back your hand has an attack and Varric goes "That didn't sound good". It's not much but I think it's cool.

BTW thank you for posting the location.

I know what you mean!! I created Liam as a devout Andrastian that was almost tailor made for Cass. And then Dorian almost happened to him

Almost?! That means he was able to resist the mustache? I'm not sure if Marcus (or I ) will have that much willpower, especially now that Dorian thinks he smells so good (Marcus turned himself into a Templar and now he's wafting of lyrium).
