Almost?! That means he was able to resist the mustache? I'm not sure if Marcus (or I ) will have that much willpower, especially now that Dorian thinks he smells so good (Marcus turned himself into a Templar and now he's wafting of lyrium).

He struggled with his decision..............a lot

Yawn, another boring loading screen.

An unwelcome side effect of the Dragon Hunter Challenge: How low can you go? is that I can't read any lore (generates XP) and I do very few quests (same), so there's hardly anything in my Codex except game tips. So that's all I get while waiting for screen loads.

Did I know different materials affect different stats? Do tell!

You're welcome! It's always fun to find things you haven't before. I am finding all sorts of new stuff at the Storm Coast this game. Tonight I came across a dwarfy cave I'd not seen yet. It's got a pretty decent shield for loot, though my party might be a bit too high level now to use it for long. Location and loot pics below:

I love that shield. Bull is using it now in my game, and I had Blackwall using it for a long time last game, even after finding better ones.

You can totes do it.  I was not big into tac cam before NM either.  I use it a lot more now.  Even on casual and normal.  It's handy to send my warrior to a demon spawn point at a rift and have him start attacking it and killing it before a demon spawns (assuming said warrior is not Cass who can just spell purge one). I also use it just to see what I am up against and what weaknesses an enemy has.  If I'm far enough away I'll swap out abilities  based on what I am seeing listed as any potential weaknesses.

Honestly NM is really just grinding in the Hinterlands/Storm Coast/Fallow Mire and getting yourself up to level 11 or 12 before taking on the battle of Haven.  Swearsies!

Casual difficulty has made me kinda lazy. When the combat starts everyone just kinda goes and does their own thing, and I usually just worry about the inquisitor. I kinda like it that way, means only having to keep track of one set of powers, heh. I dunno... can't do it this game, at least not if I want the achievement. I'd already started my magequisition game when I left it to start my current game, and I really don't wanna roll four mages on nightmare. I figure I'm gonna need at least one tank.

EDIT: Congrats to you and hubby, and agreed that pizza is the key to life. :D

@SporkFu - love the pictures and commentary on the wandering mage, thanks for sharing!

Welcome and thank you. Glad you enjoyed! :D

Dooo iiiit
No, but really, it's not that difficult once you're used to it. As previously stated, that Pride Demon at the start of the game is pretty much the worst thing. Tac-cam's relatively useless regardless, unless you're just checking out enemy conditions and the field. Moving people doesn't help much, since they tend to just decide you're a terrible leader and try to do things their own way anyway (which may or may not lead to their deaths. Guess you're not such a terrible leader then, hm?). I'd say I play solely on NM and don't micromanage, but I do spend quite a lot of time tinkering with custom armour... I also only play on Insanity in ME3, so maybe I'm just a masochist and don't even realise it?

I'd say you were masochistic except I played ME3 insanity and I enjoyed the challenge, once I got used to the differences in the gameplay, like the sheer number of grenades I now had to deal with :P

YES! Black Emporium DLC for May 5th, and it's not a timed exclusive. Maybe I'll finally see how Thegrath looks again without his beard.

Awesome. I kinda wish I'd waited to play my first Inquisitor through Jaws of Hakkon now. She'll have to wait for another new DLC. Oh oh oh... I know! maybe I can take screenies through the CC ...if it works the same, that is.

I would suggest working your way up in difficulty rather than going from Casual direct to NM since there is a pretty big spike in difficulty between the two. Maybe play magequisition on Normal then the next on Hard? Or even crank up the difficulty this game once you get leveled up a bit more, just to get some practice.  :D

Update for Dragon Hunter Challenge: How low can you go?

Good news is that I was able to take on the Northern Hunter (L13) in Crestwood at level 9 + 97 XP on Nightmare. Bad news is that it was a lot harder to beat than the first run. I had to reload 5 times, though one shouldn't really count (see below). I finally managed it, having to revive everyone at least once. It wasn't until well after the battle that I realized why it was so hard ... I had forgotten to gear up with electrical resistance! Everyone still had fire resistance gear from the Fereldan Frostback battle.

Another disadvantage was being only 97 XP in level 9. All of my companions were still level 8, leaving them all down one skill point relative to my IQ. That also played a part in the difficulty.

The reload that didn't count is the bane of PC players. Right in the middle of battle, my IQ froze up and would not respond to commands. Solas got axed and I desperately mashed on T to pause, but nothing. Then Sera when skull and crossbones. Then Cass right after. My IQ was the only one left, getting zapped and mauled and taking it without moving a muscle and of course died.

All because I had accidentally hit ~

I hadn't noticed that the top my screen looked like this:

Janet Hawke

Varric tells me about a Grey Warden in the area.

me: What was that glow stuff you were doing?

Anders: The other Wardens bet me 100 sovereign that I wouldn't merge with a spirit. I regret doing it

me: So greed blinded you to what would happen to you?  Carver? Cut his head off.

Anders: Wait. I have maps for the deep roads that can help you

me: Ok. For now you can stay alive.

Carver: You're kidding? This ....this..thing needs to be killed

me: I know. As long as he remains here helping people, he can live.

Isabela: Hey you? Can you help me?

me: What do you need?

Isabela: Mmmm. Maybe later, but for now I need you to help fight a guy.

me: Instead of later, how about now?

Isabela: I would, but I need to deal with this guy

me: Ok, but you owe me

Isabela: See that wasn't too bad was it?

me: Yeah sure. Now about that later being now.

Isabela: Ok. Follow me

Carver and Carric: We'll just wait here

Varric: So little Hawke, you want to play cards?

Carver: Stop calling me that

Merrill: I need to take you up the hill to perform the ritual

me: What's the ritual?

Merrill: Its just some dalish stuff.

me: How do we get through this barrier?

Merrill: I'm a blood mage.

me: Lets get this over with

Flemeth: Thanks for holding up your end of the bargin

me: Maybe you can show me that trick. I would like to stuffed into an amulet and carried around

Flemeth: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Would you like to join me on my travels? Actually you can't

me: Since you helped me and my family, I welcome you to my home for a meal anytime you're in town

Flemeth: I thank you. That's probably the nicest thing anyone has said to me in a very long time. I need to go

We get attack by bandits

me: I got another one. How many you got Varric?

Varric: Wait a minute. That's my line. Read the script Hawke. I hate when other actors to that to me. Lets try this again. Damn.

Varric: I got another one. How many you got Hawke?

me: A lot more than you

Varric: Good enough. You can work on it. I try and have a little fun and along comes a human to rain on my parade.

That's not a bad idea either. I coulld bump up the difficulty next game and see how it goes, or even this one... once I get to Skyhold or something.

I hate it when that happens! Why can't I remap the console command to some key waaaaayyyy over there -----> that I will never hit by accident??

That's what I did with the key for health potion guzzling....I changed it to Backspace. ^_^

Why delay the inevitable? I went from casual for one playthrough, then straight to nightmare for my next playthrough.  I will give a like if you switch to nightmare for your next playthrough. Ahh heck. Just do it for your current playthrough. Remember you only live once. Hahaha. You may never get another opportunity again

Okay, I look at it like this... If I switch to NM in my current game I won't be able to get the achievement. Same with next game since I already started it. DA:I NM is very likely the kinda thing I'll only want to do once, so I may as well be sure and get the achievement. I know, I know, I'm stalling...but I don't care :P

You may not get the achievement, but you can get a good idea how hard the game is, what companions would be best to use and see if the class you're currently playing would be best to play nightmare

*cough* Knight-Enchanter *cough*

Honestly, if you have a relatively balanced team, anything can be viable. My most recent PT was a DW Tempest. Bit squishy, but a lot of fun and if you watch your health, NM's really not that difficult. I've found high dps really makes a huge difference, since you have limited healing and really don't want to drag things out too much. My main team was Cass, Varric and...uh...Vivienne? I think? And I think I only had the whole team die a couple times (probably with dragons. Because I got careless. And distracted by the pretty  ) the entire PT. That said, I'm sure the challenge would be...interesting, if you decided to go in with an unbalanced team, too. Or solo :P

Besides, if you ever just really want to hate zombies, Exalted Plains on NM is the best place to accomplish this! There's just so many of them...They're easy to kill, but then there's the Arcane Horrors...Y'know, they might've actually killed me a couple times too, now that I think of it... <_<

So this makes me feel dumb...nowhere during my first run did I realize you could hit the spawning points during rifts with dispels or aoes and stop them from spawning...so thanks for a long load screen that had that as a tip

Dispel can also be used when facing a dragon that uses electricity. Crestwood, Exalted Plains and Dragon Island

Use dispel on a despair demon and it will lose its barrier.

I believe you receive less XP if you Dispel kill them. In this game, you need as much XP as you can get.

That reminds me, I keep forgetting to test it out: does dispel work on the fire rings that the Highland Ravager uses?

I never tried since I was caught in the ring and ran out of it to avoid being burnt.
