Guilty Pleasures, part 1. Marcus really did enjoy teasing Cass about this. ![]()
He hasn't yet spoken to Varric. He's waiting for just the right moment.
On becoming a Templar. Dorian asks if you plan to join the order and you get 3 options to respond:
1. Maybe eventually
2. I just like their abilities (pics 2 and 3)
3. Are you serious?! (pic 4)
You may not get the achievement, but you can get a good idea how hard the game is, what companions would be best to use and see if the class you're currently playing would be best to play nightmare
Hmm... those are all good points. Okay maybe I'll try out some NM for awhile in my current game... you know, after getting to Skyhold. It isn't too far away with only the Fallow Mire left to do before In Your Heart Shall Burn. I could go to the Forbidden Oasis and see how things are on NM there.*cough* Knight-Enchanter *cough*
Honestly, if you have a relatively balanced team, anything can be viable. My most recent PT was a DW Tempest. Bit squishy, but a lot of fun and if you watch your health, NM's really not that difficult. I've found high dps really makes a huge difference, since you have limited healing and really don't want to drag things out too much. My main team was Cass, Varric and...uh...Vivienne? I think? And I think I only had the whole team die a couple times (probably with dragons. Because I got careless. And distracted by the pretty) the entire PT. That said, I'm sure the challenge would be...interesting, if you decided to go in with an unbalanced team, too. Or solo
Besides, if you ever just really want to hate zombies, Exalted Plains on NM is the best place to accomplish this! There's just so many of them...They're easy to kill, but then there's the Arcane Horrors...Y'know, they might've actually killed me a couple times too, now that I think of it...
Wicked Grace cards, maybe? ...All great screenies, by the wayRandom Crestwood screenies....not sure but are those tarot cards on the ground with the cheese wheel??
So this makes me feel dumb...nowhere during my first run did I realize you could hit the spawning points during rifts with dispels or aoes and stop them from spawning...so thanks for a long load screen that had that as a tip
I did the same thing on my first run through the game, and only on the 2nd run did I realize that Cassandra also has a dispel in her templar spec.
Here's another silly thing I did:
I did nearly 100% of everything, sidequests, collectibles etc.. on my first playthrough as a mage. Then on my 2nd run as a warrior I could no longer do those Energize things. Well, crap. So I figured the game broke on me as I tried spamming the Energize thingy. Only then did Dorian start talking: "Maybe I should try that? How about I give it a go? Perhaps it just requires the magical touch?" And I'm just standing there thinking "WTF, Dorian?"
Then I finally saw down there in the corner of the screen the game was yelling at me "Requires a mage." ![]()
I always assumed that the Energize thing was something only the Herald could do thanks to having that Mark on the hand. But no, you just needed a mage ![]()
"Dorian, we will never speak of this again." ![]()
Hi guys. Team Ginger Bro found the holy grail of guard on hit generation.. Silverite! I took a screenshot
Found it in Emprise while casually farming. Holden and company cleared out all the dragons in the Emprise and the Sandy Howler in the Wastes. He allso killed off the dragon in the Exalted Planes. Took Solas there only to find out his spirit friend had been turned into a demon. Oops. Despite Solas's rage, Holden did not let him kill the mages.

I'm off to do an MS walk on this fab Sunday morning. Hope everyone has a Sunday funday!!
Marcus finally unlocked the Deft Hands perk (took longer than usual since he wasn't able to recruit Witty Ritts) so now he can backtrack to all the places he couldn't open before and clean them out. He's also got quite the laundry list of companion quests to tackle so that should keep him busy for a while. Hawke's friend Stroud said the Wardens were meeting in the Western Approach; once the current loose ends are tied up, that's where he'll be heading next.
I think I might exile the Wardens this time (haven't done that yet). Marcus is going to blame them for his sister's death (and the Divine's) so he's probably not going to be thinking too clearly once he gets back from the Fade. He will also likely blame himself even more but since he can't exile himself (yet), he'll take his anger out on them. ![]()
Real life is getting to be a bit of a distraction. I think Rielen may die in the Fade, stuck there forever while the Overlord is unavailable ![]()

Only a little death? ![]()
Once you have a specialization would be a good time to try things out, if you're not planning on really sticking with NM this PT and just want to see what it's like.
Especially since Fallow Mire and In Your Heart Shall Burn can be pretty horrible on NM too. The more I think of it, the more NM really is a pain...Sorry ![]()
Update on Dragon Hunter Challenge: How low can you go?
I don't know how I did it, but I managed to break the Draconology quests given by Feredric of Serault in the Western Approach. I've never had a problem doing these nuisance quests before, in order to activate the battle with the Abyssal dragon, but this time, I broke the quest somehow so that I couldn't find Quillback intestines (I know, ick). I must have killed 20 Quillbacks, in and outside the purple quest zone, but got nothing. I also couldn't get Phoenix feathers. The quest was active and granted to me by Frederic, but it just wouldn't work. Since I have to minimize XP for the sake of the Challenge, this was all kind of a disaster.
So I reloaded to the point just before talking to Frederic for the first time. I went and got all the ingredients first, without talking to him. No problem! First Quillback I killed had guts I could collect. Same with the feather. Weird!
Anyway, fought the Abyssal High Dragon (L14) at level 10 + 2176 XP on Nightmare. It was tough, took over 20 minutes real time, but wasn't as tough as the Northern Hunter, since this time I remembered to gear up for fire resistance. I still drained every drop of potion and tonic I brought with me and both Cass and Sera were down for the count by the time the dragon finally gave up its loot. Tier 2 weapons with tier 2 materials are barely adequate -- it's pretty sad to see that most of the damage blips during the battle are double or even single digits. I might have to do something about that before I get to the Emerald Graves.
On to the Exalted Plains and the Storm Rider.
@Nightingale: Solo? You're trying to kill me
![]()
I've soloed almost all the dragons on nightmare and done a few quests solo. The only reason I don't solo the whole game is because I may need a rogue for a lock and a warrior to kick in a wall for me or a mage to light me some veil fire or put a bridge together
I've done all classes on nightmare and will say knight-enchanter was the easiest for me
Janet Hawke
Went around Kirkwall fighting the 82nd airborne bandits
helped Emeric tracked down missing women
Keran might have a demon inside. Cullen will watch him for 10 years. That will be boring.
My uncle is shocked that I get more letters than him. Not surprising.
I meet the Arishok. That little dwarf guy doesn't want to give my money. Hey look at that. The hornhead guy told the dwarf to pay me. Alright. I like that guy. I'm still curious why Isabela left.
We get attacked by more bandits
Varric: One more for the dwarf
Isabela: One more for the pirate
Carver: One more for the human
Fenris: One more for the elf
Merrill: One more for the blood mage
Anders: One more for the abomination
Aveline: One more for the guard Captain
me: One more for the leader
Varric: I give up. Why can't I work with people that know those are my lines. I need a vacation. Lets try this again tomorrow. If anyone needs me, I will be at the hangman
I would include Sebastian, but I'm not done with Act 1 yet. I will have him say something in the next Act when I recruit him

Ahh, see? The pressure is off me now
... by the way, are there any quests where it is absolutely necessary to have a rogue or fighter along to finish? I can think of one off the top of my head, where you have to unlock the seven slave cages in Emprise du Lion. Are there any others?

I don't recall any from the main quests, though there is a wall that requires a warrior to kick in when siding with the templars while searching for the veteran templars. Don't recall if the wall can be avoided. There are several for side quests that require one of the classes if the player chooses to do them.
Marcus has gotten himself into quite the pickle.
See, all that flirting he's been doing with Cass and Dorian has not gone unnoticed after all. So after calling Dorian brave after going with him to meet his father, and then finding out from Mother Giselle about certain...ehhh, "rumours" going around, Dorian kissed him and then said they might want to explore this more in private.
Then, he went to talk to Cassandra, and she told him that she wants flowers and candles and poetry and....can he do that? He said he could....he's the ****ing Herald of Andraste! How hard could poetry be?
But eventually he's going to have to choose one or the other, yes? And that means someone's heart is going to be broken and....what a terrible person he's turned out to be. All just to have some fun. ![]()
Smacked down more red templars than my Inquisitor could count in Emprise du Lion last night and took back Suledin Keep. I just have to hunt down the two dragons I saw flying around, and THEN I can finally get around to the Jaws of Hakkon. I got caught in a zombie-killing vortex for the last two weeks (aka Dead State), so it threw my DA:I schedule off a bit. ![]()

Oh Marcus...take it from Liam, it's a struggle ![]()

Well..... ![]()
Marcus didn't want to deal with his complicated lack-of-love-at-the-moment life, so he dragged his sorry butt out to the Western Approach to see if he could find what the Wardens were up to. Demon-summoning, as it turned out, which is usually a bad thing. He was also hoping to get a crack at the big dragon flying around but apparently she's got a bit of Cassandra in her and wants to be courted first.
So, maybe later. After finding some more shards, and killing a whole slew of bandits, Venatori, and all kinds of critters, the group's exploration came to a halt due to poison gas vapors blocking the way. So they headed back to Skyhold to see what could be done about that little problem.
When they got back, Marcus wanted to talk to Dorian about "us." You could say the game made his decision for him. By earlier talking with Cass about her ideal romance, that's put Dorian into, "Uh, not unless you break it off with [other person]" territory.
So, does he stay on this path, or tell Cass she was right? ![]()
Oh no Marcus!!! ![]()
I remember making that decision and it really was tough. Cass ultimately was a better fit.
I then went on to introduce Dorian to this hot Qunari warrior named Dhiren and they seem to be hitting it off nicely
I see the 'stache is indeed very hard to resist, after all. Think of it this way, who would you rather anger if Markus is to have a chance of survival: the hot-headed lady templar or the not-magister-stop-saying-that from Tevinter? ![]()

Aside from collections and things like them, rogues don't have quite so much use in this game as the others. It seems to mostly be mages. There's a few various things that require veilfire (Temple of Dirthamen, Cradle of Sulevin, etc.) and the Forbidden Oasis pretty much requires a bit of everything, but as far as I know you can get through the main quests fine with a single class, and in some cases there's already a veilfire lit that you can just drag around to light the others. Of course, Keeping the Darkspawn Down requires a mage. So do all of the things that are blocked by barriers, such as the zombie pyres in Exalted Plains, the mages' caves in the Hinterlands.
I want to say there's more side-quests that I'm forgetting, but all I can think of for rogues, other than what you said, is the proof for Fairbanks' nobility quest. That requires Deft Hands, too.
On the bright side, no more "trap right ahead!" *triggers trap*

Ah, thanks for the info. I was thinking ahead to my magequisition game, so anything that involves barriers and veilfire and energizing bridges or darkspawn holes won't be a problem other than choosing who gets to do the energizing . of course I'll want to do sidequests, but I'll see how it goes. For the sake of rolling out four mages, I may have to allow some sidequests to go unfinished.

Elemental barriers don't require a mage. You just need something that can do proper elemental damage. Works well for my rogue's explosive shot to break them. As long as you got the dps for it, otherwise the barrier will recharge quickly.
