I am standing at the crossroads of Kubrie's journey. It is the key moment that will shape her interactions going forward. She has closed the breach, and in the middle of the celebration...
sidenote: as "The Herald" stands with Cassandra and discusses what comes next, we can see all the Havenites that you are given a chance to save, celebrating the closing of the breach. Seggritt is dancing with Minaeve, Adahn is laughing drunkenly, and Flissa and Threnn are nearby as well.
... A different sort of herald arrived at the gates of Haven and announced, "I cannot enter if you don't let me in!" This brought to mind varios old vampire movies I've watched over the years where the monster couldn't enter the house unless freely invited first... but nevermind. It was no vampire at the gate, just a young man in an amazing wide-brimmed hat that hid his eyes. he told us the red templars were coming, in the service of dun dun dun The Elder One, who is apparently angry at Kubrie for stealing his mages. His mages? The gall. They're our mages. We stole them from a tevinter magister fair and square.
Ah it was a fun battle! Little bit difficult trying to backstab flank bad guys when they swarm, and there are also Bull and Solas and Varric, as well as various inquisition troops around to impede one's clear path in a battle. Add to that the fun of having the game randomly switch my control from Kubrie to Varric right in the middle of fights. Frustrating. Definitely no placve for NM difficulty
...but still fun. Managed to save all the Havenites except Adahn again. Poor guy. I'm getting the impression that he won't be so quick to upgrade potions for me next game or something. It's not my fault! Who the hell falls down next to four giant pots of flammable oil anyway and doesn't even try to crawl away ? I tried, I did! Immediately after rescuing Minaeve, kubrie ran for Adahn and was in the middle of getting him on his feet when the oil pots caught fire and the owner of the second best beard in Haven died. Unfair. I figure, if I can get to Adahn and start reviving him, it should be good enough to at least drag him away from the flames, right? Who's with me?
Sigh. I'll try again next game.
Anyway, what happened happened, and Kubrie saved everyone by causing an avalanche that nearly buried her alive, and she did get to trash talk the big old ugly elder one and his pet dragon too, so it was actually a good day.
Something that I wondered about. The Havenites start fleeing away on Roderick's remembered path right away. The herald's chosen squad -- in my case Bull, Solas and Varric -- remain behind to help for awhile, so that we can get the trebuchet properly pointed at the mountain. Once it is aimed, the Herald tells the squad to run away. It is only when The Herald sees the signal arrow that she knows the Havenites are safe, and she fires the trebuchet cutting off the pursuit and saving everyone. The squad is logically somewhere between the safe Havenites (safe haven teehee) and the doomed village of Haven, since they fled the scene somewhat later than the others. Why were they not buried alive? ... I'm not saying its a plothole or a story flaw or any of that kinda crap. Just... if anyone has a theory, I'd love to hear it.
My theory is Eagles Gryphons Flemeth Solas dreamed about Haven in one of his dreamy dreams and knew the location of a good place to wait out avalanches. I mean, come on, that can't be the first time there was ever an avalanche in Haven.
Anyway, everyone is safe, the Inquisition Council are bickering like little children about what to do next, and I am about to hear the song
Just before that, Kubrie and Mother Giselle are discussing faith. And this is where I am. has anyone else, in all their myriad PTs, planned to play their character one way and then changed their mind when at this point? Kubrie is having a bit of a crisis. She's bound to be understandably shaken by all that's happened, right? I think about Chancellor Roderick talking about how he was the last one left alive who remembered that secret path, and he could have very easily been kicked out of Haven or worse, but he wasn't. And he was only mostly killed by that templar, remaining alive until he could tell someone about the path. Divine providence? Andraste's, and thus the Maker's, will? being just what they needed, just when they needed it, like the Herald herself?
I dunno, I'm considered playing Kubrie from this point on as someone who is open-minded about faith and people having faith, and to the idea that she might actually be the Herald of Andraste. It's something she will struggle with throughout the rest of the game. Add to it all the fact that Corphyt**s told her himself that the green mark on her hand is not in fact Divine, and that it belongs to him. Ehhh, I dunno, Kubrie is no philosopher. She just likes a good fight and good loot and good ... drinks later
She also doesn't kiss and tell.
But what do I say to Giselle?? Sigh. Should I say yes, no, or maybe to the question of faith? Has anyone else role-played their inquisitor to have that crisis?
