Iron Bull took Kubrie dancing today, to a masquerade ball at Halamshiral. When it was over, try as hard as she could, she just couldn't bring herself to say, "you sure know how to show a girl a good time." She wasn't there even five minutes before some pompous, skinny armed orlesian noble pondered aloud just how could an ox be the Inquisitor... or something like that. it was a sign of great maturity and restraint on Kubrie's part that she didn't turn into the Incredible Hulk and tear the entire palace to the ground, one stuffed shirt at a time, I thought.
Instead, she squared her shoulders, gritted her teeth, and carried on... for Josie, because she still couldn't help but laugh at Josie's face when she walked in on Bull and her the other day. Also, once the court introductions had all be made, and she was free to roam around finding evidence of a plot against the Empress' life, she met Dorian, who gave her an image of him as a five-year-old, being dragged away by the ear by his mother from an event just like this one. That made her laugh, too.
Bull just wanted to eat spicy, candy-coated nuts. More on that later.
Varric was nowhere to be seen I knew where to find him, I just didn't, at least until those parts where Kubrie's court approval timer counted down the longer she lingered. Then he just couldn't help getting in her way. He must have discovered he really enjoyed doing that on the Exalted Plains, I'm beginning to hate him, just a little bit, for it. Enough that I've decided to leave him in Skyhold and bring Sera along to our next destination; the Emerald Graves. I am taking Varric to Chateau D'Onterre, though. That'll teach him to get in my way
Besides, Sera's been there a few times with me already. She has no desire to go back.
Kubrie also decided she liked Briala quite a bit, so much so that she aimed her efforts to finding a way to reconcile the ambassador and the empress, and that's how it ended up. The two are ruling together, and Briala has been made a Marquise. Vivienne (who I really should have brought to the palace. Next time) thinks that will only end in bloodshed, and she's probably right. Gaspard was executed. Felt kinda bad about that, because he hadn't ever really done anything to Kubrie personally, and he ended up being a pawn. But it's not like we even knew who the hell he was before we entered the palace
Kubrie also decided she liked Morrigan quite a bit too. Sidenote: I will never play an inquisitor who doesn't like Morrigan. Just putting that out there
. Odd this time, though. I'd kinda forgotten how I set up my world state for Kubrie's game, and it seems Morrigan doesn't have a kid this time around, nor did she have a particularly good relationship with the hero of Fereldan. Hmm, curious how that will play out now. She's had a son in all my previous games.
Back at Skyhold, I've put my efforts into making Leliana the next Divine, but it may not be possible. We'll see. Trying to discourage Cassie from being Divine has put a serious strain on her relationship with Kubrie. I got at least one 'greatly disapproves', and one 'disapproves', and possibly two 'slightly disapproves' (though one of those was for making Florianne Skyhold's newest jester. In flat shoes
) . i didn't get any 'disgusted noises' though, so they may be okay in the end.
Vivienne wouldn't discuss the next Divine at all yet. She's preoccupied with finding a snowy wyvern's heart for a potion. Kubrie told her she would look for one but I'm not going back to the Exalted Plains until I get those three great bear hides, and investigate Din'an Hanin. Then i only have to go back to the Plains once
I didn't even get a dance scene with Bull at the end of the Winter Palace shenanigans.
All they did was put their arms around each other and walk back into the palace. Boo! ... back at Skyhold, he summed up the halamshiral experience by saying (something like), "it's all gone to s**t" Kubrie told him he had a silver-tongue and perhaps they could find a better use for it. he said, "yeah. When's lunch?"
... She could've been with Sera. Or Josie.
Ah well. Emerald Graves is next.
