Stennis (Sten x Stannis Baratheon x Dennis the Menace), Tal-vashoth 2H merc, reluctant Inquisitor.

Took five hours to complete the Hinterlands. Maybe spent too much time gathering agents, not sure, but with no gear crafting I figure having 12 potions is a must. I'm not going to beat 10 hours, but 15 hours is still achievable.

----- [And now, a brief detour to Fri-to-rlais, where the extraordinary is mundane, and the mundane is special effects] ----

Here's a delightful snapshot of the whole family on our holiday trip to Val Roy'ei'ei'euax to visit Auntie Vivienne. Solas, our emo adolescent, was in an uncooperative mood, as usual. I could barely convince him to take the picture. Little V was still feeling a bit clingy after that nasty Lord Sweeper had stormed through, ranting like a mad man and scaring all the little ones. I could barely convince him to come out from behind my left thigh. Cassie is a bit frazzled looking after him, but otherwise she seems to be enjoying herself.

Don't you think I look particularly dashing in my pink reclaimed-metal outfit? Very on trend, don't you know.

-snip-

This pink armor is really pretty. I'm sure the Iron Bull would approve!

Oh, except for dragon fight and finally getting Bull's romance to work I did a bunch of companion quests. Dorian, Solas, Leliana, Sera, and Josephine. Yeah... Inquisitor spends more time dealing with her friends' problems than dealing with her own problems. *cough* No wonder she needs Bull *cough*

Here are some shots from "Under Her Skin". Shrine of Dumat looks much better when you are investigating Calpernia than when you're investigating Samson.

Mage-quisition takes on the Western Approach, part 1

Setting the stage

Spoiler

The Still Ruins
This place is so very awesome, but even after several PTs, I'm still not quite sure who did what when. There's ancient Vints and current Vints; Warden décor, and newly spawned demons. If the rift and demons are new, and they're frozen, why aren't the new Vints and quizzy's team frozen once they enter? No idea, but it's still a neat place. Alas, Vivienne got replaced by Cole so they could open all the doors.

Iron Bull
This scene always makes me laugh; I just wish it was slightly different for when you don't have Bull with you when killing your first dragon. Also, what if the first dragon you kill isn't a fire-breather? Then it makes no sense even if he was there! I just hate it when game developers assume you do things only one way. Oh well....DRINK!

Spoiler

My theory is Vivienne is extremely careful with everything she says and does. She never asks a question without knowing what the answer will be, so your choices are already pre-determined by her, and she will have her say regardless.

That's why she doesn't like Cole. She can't manipulate a conversation with him.

I noticed the same thing back when I was in Harold's game, during the long walk through the snow from Haven to the Inquisition camp. Harold was wearing the short rogue's coat -- can't remember what it's called exactly. it wasn't the trenchcoat style anyway -- and there was a gap of emptiness where his jacket joined his breeches. he had no body. As soon as I could I had to get him different gear.

Heh, I had to give up some screenshots of Cassandra during IYHSB (first part of the cutscene, when you're closing the Breach) because her arms were not attached to the body

Another thing I forgot to mention.

Since you had a decent save to go back to when you reentered the game, the problem is probably on Origin's end, not yours.  Sometimes, especially during weekends, Origin has a lot of volume and the servers go down.  With auto updates for the games, some connection with Origin is maintained whenever the game is open, whether game events are being recorded or not.  I haven't found a way around the game searching to open Origin yet.  I'd suggest giving it a little while and trying again.  It's a shame because weekends are when everyone has time to chat and hang out.  That's actually why I'm on again.  I rebooted the computer prior to starting the Abyss, and a minor glitch caused the game to start prior to my settings registering again, and I wound up playing online just long enough to crash again.  I wonder if just unplugging the internet cable would fix my problem.  Hmmmm.....

Yeah, when I turned on the PC today and started DAI from Origin it had no problems with syncing. Means I was worried for nothing.

Thanks anyway  <3 hope your game stops crashing.

Back at Crimeboss Fortress, Scarface listens as we tell her about what the Grey Walnut told about the whereabouts of the rest of the Walnuts. She tells me to go to the Western Approach.

Boy its hot here. Scout Heartless gives me the brief.  We see a dragon fly away in the distance. Not sure if we'll be fighting that one. Lets worry about that later.

There's Studebaker and Champion

Spoiler

Spoiler

After defeating the Walnuts and demons, Studebaker and Champion head to Hotel 6 where the rest of the Walnuts may be located. They will meet us back at Crimeboss Fortress

Scarface orders an attack on the Hotel 6. Diplomat mentions a few noble houses will lend us their sling shots and people to help. She even mentions that some of the Walnuts may stand down is persuaded. TOO WAR

Spoiler

This is Hotel 6. Whatever. We fight the Walnuts and demons. Some Walnuts stand down. There's the Commander of the Walnuts. Sorry looking person. And standing next to Lord Lactose. They deserve each other. What's this? Digger the pet is here. Ok. Fight the demons while running from the Digger. Hey! Did you see that. Digger ate the Walnut Commander. How cool is that? Now I'm falling this can't be good. Lets see what this mark can do.

Where are we? Sniper is having hissy fits. The others take it in stride. This is the Fade. You mean I can disappear? Cool. Lets move. Need to find an exit. Who's that?

Spoiler

Spoiler

We follow the directions the Pope gave us. Sure enough we fight the 2 large demons. There's the area and the door to the left. Yuck. The Daymare is really ugly. Lets fight. It puts up a good fight, but falls in the end. I walk around collecting my memories. It was the Walnuts all along who helped Lavaface leading to the death of the Pope. Feeling bad for what his gang has done, Studebaker stays behind while we leave.

With the demon army dealt with, I tell the Walnuts to help us or risk being cracked. Champion bids her goodbye. She mentions something about being with her pirate Queen

Today, in the Inquisition... The gauntlet has been thrown down, the line has been drawn, and I have been tempted by the dark side (sort of).

For the time being I am setting aside the magequisition. Meghan, Solas and Vivienne and one of Sera/Varric/Cassie will have to cool their heels in the Gull and Lantern Tavern in Redcliffe, and ponder why One-Eyed Jimmy won't talk to them <_< ... just for awhile.

Harold Trevelyan's Lonely Hearts Club Band's Magical Mystery Tour through the Frostback Basin is also on hold -- for awhile  -- while Varric sorts through his notes on the meeting between Harold and Svarah Sun-Hair.

I have begun a new journey in Thedas, and it's gonna be a nightmare.

I present for your inspection Cirwen, a famous warrior of Clan Lavellan. I totally didn't get any screenies of her in the CC because I forgot to turn on Bandicam reasons but there are a few from in-game below. Her clan lived primarily deep in the wilderness of the northern Free Marches, having almost no contact with anyone but other dalish, and even then usually only during gatherings. When the clan's Keeper learned of the Conclave at Haven it was decided that the far-reaching consequences of such a gatheriong could not be ignored. In the end their best and fiercest warrior was chosen to travel among the shemlen and learn what could be learned.

Cirwen will be a very elfy elf, having little patience for the dealings of outsiders, and very little caring for their gods and their politics and their problems. Thrust right into the middle of it therough no fault of her own, it will be interesting to see how closely she sticks to her elfy ideals. Sera is going to hate her :P

She is a sword-and-shield warrior, and I'm planning on Reaver spec. Also planning on Solas romance. They're both outsiders of a sort, and they're both superior to everyone else, at least in their own minds :P , so they should be a good match. Role-playing a character like this in DA:I will be a new experience for me. No matter how I started with all my other inquisitors, they all ended up on friendly terms with everyone. Cirwen will be the sort of person who sacrifices the Chargers without hesitating. She would regret Dalish's death, though.

Gameplay wise I'm expecting all sorts of new challenges. I made it through ME3 insanity without throwing my keyboard through my monitor though, and I think it made me a better person  I'm hoping to always keep that in mind as I play out this run.

Cirwen awoke from a strange dream, in chains and with two angry shems questioning her about an explosion. She held her tongue through the questions and demanded to be set free. The dark-haired shem -- named Cassandra -- took her outside and showed her a giant hole in the sky that was spilling demons out of it. She then claimed Cirwen was responsible (maybe) and that she better try and close the thing. Cirwen wished she was back home. Not for the last time.

Cirwen's journey begins with passing through a big gate on the way to what was left of the Temple of Sacred Ashes. And first look at the hole in the sky as the shems run away.
Spoiler

The Breach pulsed and the anchor in Cirwen's hand pulsed with it, knocking her off her feet. Cassandra got her upright again, and stated the obvious, while the anchor glowed.
Spoiler

The unlikely partners came to a bridge just in time for some demons to fall on it and cause it to explode, dropping them to the frozen river below... where this guy was waiting for them.
Spoiler

Cassandra told Cirwen to stay out of her way and commenced with the slicing, but with a spare sword and shield nearby, Cirwen wasn't about to miss the fight.
Spoiler

And fight she did. Was doing well too against my her first nightmare demon B)
Spoiler

Until Cassie stole all her aggro and they had to work together. Even though the demons were dead, Cassie was still spoiling for a fight.
Spoiler

But it was over. Cassie apparently has as difficult time showing gratitude as Cirwen does. Maybe they'll get along after all? Nah.

In the end she agreed to let Cirwen keep her weapons, and they continued to the Temple.
Spoiler

Cirwen thought that all in all, Nightmare wasn't so bad. But then she remembered...
Spoiler

Bonus Director's Cut Screenshot
Spoiler

So the nightmare journey begins. I'm excited about it. We'll see how long that lasts, heh. Likely until the first time I'm facing a templar with a shield and my sword just bounces off him <_< But... that french fry thief will not swipe one more delicious golden-brown potato slice from my plate!

Maker, this I vow.

Elissa, the most BA dual-wielding tempest Lavellan I've made yet, just finished the Abyss, and she looked awesome when she emerged from the rift victorious.

Spoiler

Naturally, problems awaited her return from the Fade.  The stress of everything wound up getting to Cullen.  It might have been coordinating the assault on Adamant, then thinking Inq was gone for good, again, then seeing her come back, again.  It might have just been too many long marches back from the Western Approach.  For whatever the reason, by the time Elissa got back to check on him, Cullen was already begging Cass to let him quit.  Hello, Cullen.  Having less responsibility makes life less demanding, but you wanted to be doing this for a reason, remember....  OK.  crisis averted, for now.

Routine legal matters have been sorted, and it's time to turn attention to sifting through the loot.  Anything rather than having to talk to Varric about the Fade.  Thedas lost a great mustache again, but I don't think it matters.  You see, Varric hasn't realized that whether Hawke remained in the Fade or went to rebuild the wardens at Weisshaupt, he's now subject to the same mind control by Corypheus the wardens are.

Remember, Corypheus was bound through blood of Hawke's father, and released by Hawke's.  He has the same kind of link now that he has with the wardens.  Check it out, I just noticed it during this fight.  Both Hawke and Stroud are rendered inactive during combat to the same extent.  Really chilling in implication.

Spoiler

In any event, time to claim keep #2 and finish up the Plains.

I went to the tavern to relax and have an ale. After finishing, I decided to walk around and try to get know the members better. All of them said nearly the same thing. It was about the coin. Scarface pays them well. Very well.  They also mention that Scarface maybe a ruthless individual she does care about others. All been with Scarface for years.

Scarface walks up to me and tells me to head to an area to deal with a giant that's causing problems.

Spoiler

That is bigger than the giant on the coast. As we hack ans slash it smashes its foot on the ground. Oh crap. I'm freezing. Ok. I need to keep moving so I don't freeze to death. Move stab. Move slice. Move bash. Its working. The giant is dead.

Back at the fortress, Scarface says I'm to head to the Winter palace to have Orlais help us deal with Lavaface. Cool. I get to dress up
