Mage-quisition takes on the Western Approach, part 3.

With a water supply secured for Griffon Wing Keep and most of the Venatori killed or left the area, Tanith felt it was time to meet up with Hawke and Stroud to see what they could find out regarding the Wardens. They made it to the ritual tower just in time to see the tail-end of a binding ceremony.
[Sidenote: Not sure why but some of the dialogue from Tanith has her saying things I've never heard, even though I picked the same options I have before. I like variety, but I also like knowing how to get it.]

What a great idea for a mod, heh.... although I do like it when Morrigan frightens him into soiling his armour.

And did you say fic? *perks*

OMG! I've tried to get that loot forever. I did try a mount, a horse, but couldn't figure out where to make the jump. Finally gave up in frustration.

Good to know it can be done.

Aha! I remembered! I was hoping to give you some inspiration, something to aspire to. You know you want this, right?

Spoiler

Good luck against the Pride Demon. I think it took Olinar 4 tries? But he was a squishy mage. A warrior with extra defense should be better suited to stay alive.

Picture doesn't seem to be working?  ...but thank you. Something came up and I haven;'t actually fired up Cirwen's game yet, but I'm just about to. It won't take long to get to the pride Demon I think. Then I'll see what Cirwen is made of. Hopefully stern stuff :P

That's right.

If playing as a warrior, use you grappling hook to pull  the thing in your face and knock it down and start slicing and dicing.

And thank you both for the good tip about terrors. i always thought there was something off about those guys. Maybe I should teach them to play chess and sit them down with Cullen :P

About Cullen - I usually played female mages in DAo, and got the whole "you're bad too because mage" speech in the circle tower. I liked him in DA2 though, playing a sarcastic Hawke mage was fun and the comments back to him sort of fit in some cases so in the end my sarcastic Hawke made me like his character.

On party make up, pfft I take whoever the heck I feel like at any given time, even when playing nightmare mode. Sure some make fights a tad more difficult but that's never bothered me. The last thing I think of is "oh I have 3 mages and a rogue as my questing group".. until I come to a wall that needs to be bashed in, then it's "so no warrior, which spell might break this one"

However I'm not the best person to come to for Nightmare mode tips. I don't even use tac-cam unless I'm trying to take combat screenshots. Only thing I can say is keep gear and weapons for everyone the best you can get/make (while looking stylish as well, personal preference in single player games). And make sure to concentrate when in a fight, most of my nightmare deaths are from not keeping an eye on what's going on in the battlefield. the rest are from Hafter's Woods... Jaws of Hakkon, however, is a different story. It's harder *is not looking forward to this on Kyrrah* I even had to make new armour for it lol.

Saegar will be my first 2-hander I properly play. I had a little dwarf at one stage, ages ago though. I have reaver or champion left to unlock the hidden tiles of in the keep. One of those has to fit a 2-hander right? lol

No worries on the nightmare tips. :) ...think I'm pretty well covered. But once i actually get playing  I'm sure there will be lots of panicked HELP good advice requests from everyone here. I like your approach to party make-up heh. Apart from the magequisition game I'd been playing before now, i almost always rolled out 2 warriors, a rogue and mage unless I had to switch things up for an Inner Circle quest. I played a Templar with my 2H warrior, so i couldn't say about champion or Reaver. In the end I rarely used any of the templar abilities and kinda regretted not going with Champion. Then I played a reaver in MP, and although the skill trees are somewhat different., it was a blast, so that's why I want to go reaver this time.

Well, this was supposed to be part 3 of the mage-quisition in the Western Approach but we'll get to that. Since both Blackwall and Cassandra had business in the area, they got to come out and play for a while.

First, though, a trip through Coracavus and a not-so-pleasant surprise on the other end.

Spoiler

  Can't. Stop. Laughing.

At first, I tried going around and over the cliff but that didn't work. I ended up just going down the little slope that's right there, then up and over the stones that are broken on the corner.

After I started romancing Morrigan, some of the companions questioned her intentions during party banter.

Maybe they just don't like her, but I like to think it's because they care about the Warden.

You pretty much need to jump like and idiot (and be prepared to hear some ungry mount whines), but yes. This can be done with mount.

Now, now. They may beat Cullen, but they would lose to the Inquisitor who is voiced by AWR who voiced Samantha who kicked Shepard's backside in chess. You don't want to torture the terrors anymore than they have been. Give them the mercy killing they deserve

Today in the Inquisition (Nightmare Edition) ...

Cirwen and Cassandra continued their journey to the Temple of Sacred Ashes, or what was left of it. Along the way, they came across a group fighting some demons and got an up-close view of a rift for the first time. Cirwen decided to announce her presence with authority.
Spoiler

An elf mage was there among them, and when the demons were taken care of, he grabbed Cirwen by the wrist and pointed her hand at the rift and it eximploded.
Spoiler

Then he and Cassandra started talking, and between them Cirwen felt like she was being set up for the mother of all cons, somehow... as the look on her face will attest.
Spoiler

Oh, they also recruited this guy, the first dwarf Cirwen had ever met in her life. She wondered if they were all like him.
Spoiler

They arrived at the Forward base, where Leliana introduced them to an unpleasant little bureaucrat. Cirwen just knew he'd be trouble.
Spoiler

Yup. Trouble. :pinched: But she found a somewhat unexpected ally, who told it like it was.
Spoiler

She tried to exert some control over the situation, but no one really bought it. This is why she doesn't like Shemlen.
Spoiler

She reminded them all why they were here and that they should be focused on doing something about it...
Spoiler

As the group lit out for the breach (finally) with Roderick's words still ringing in their ears, I'm left to wonder about something...
Spoiler

On their way up the mountainside, Cirwen and company came across another rift and met the commander of the military forces, Cullen something-or-other.
Spoiler

Next up: the Breach. Cirwen wished she were back home. Not for the last time.
Spoiler

To be continued...

Continued from part one.

Today in the Inquisition (Nightmare Edition)...

Pride (Demon) Goeth Before A Breach (or something like that).

Cirwen and company arrived at what was left of the temple. Cirwen was determined now to get this over with.
Spoiler

What a mess. Leliana had already arrived with a host of soldiers ready to do battle if needed ( ). they made their way through the wreckage, heard some voices that Solas claimed were coming from the Fade, found some red lyrium that Varric was none-too-happy to see, and finally saw a somewhat confusing vision of what exactly happened a few days prior. The vision exonerated Cirwen, if it was to be believed, and they got down to the business of closing the breach once and for all.

At this point, Solas -- always helpful -- suggested that the breach was temporarily closed, that it needed to be re-opeened so that it could be properly sealed, and that the re-opening might attract some unwanted attention. How he said this with a straight face is a mystery for the ages.

The re-opening did indeed attract some attention. Boy, did it ever.
Spoiler

And yet, this is why, even though she broke Harold's heart, I still  Cassandra.
Spoiler

I wish Varric wasn't way off to the side for this one. maybe he's camera shy? Nah :P
Spoiler

Anyway. This is the first attempt to defeat the pride demon. History only records the losers of a battle as a footnote Hear that Corypheus? so I will be brief on the first attempt. *cough*
Spoiler

So, that was attempt number one. Nerve-wracking because I couldn't disrupt the rift. I'd get close enough to it but I was unable to interact with it. I couldn't figure out why until afterwards, going through these screenies. looking at the minimap, it seems that after Cassie went down, there was still one Shade running around out there, and I think I have to kill him before I can do anything with the rift. Does that sound right? Anyway, it was still a blast.

So, attempt number two. Reloaded and the battle starts right away without preamble. This time i got everyone in the screenshot, including some random soldier. And this time, I was able to disrupt the rift when neededeven though Pride summoned some friends to keep me from doing it.
Spoiler

Then Pride summoned some buddies to keep me from doing that again, and they did their job, too, the b*****s, to the point where Cassandra had to charge in and save me.
Spoiler

Though I got the rift disrupted, cassandra paid the price. I managed to revive her this time, but it was a short-lived respite. Stupid lightning.
Spoiler

In desperation, I revived Cassandra again, drank the last health potion, and then revived Varric, and everyone was together again...
Spoiler

...briefly. Now I really had a bad feeling.
Spoiler

Pride threw down the gauntlet. Cirwen picked it up.
Spoiler

It's official. This is her: "OOoooooooooh SH*T!" face.

Also few I have two comments about what you've written:

- Warriors start with War Cry. This skill generated guard basing on the number of enemies surrounding you. With two Shades and Pride Demon Cirwen could generate full/almost full guard.

- That single Shade was probably the reason why you couldn't interact with the Rift. Another reason is that sometimes 'F' doesn't work. And last possible reason... you were just too far (I know you said you were close, but maybe that was close for you, not the Rift  )

Either way, great screenies!  :D

I keep coming here, going OT and not actually sharing any stories of Imtiyaz's exploits. I promise to remedy that soon! I've loads of screengrabs!

Edit: And maybe I should just get back and finish Aidan's playthrough to get that Nightmare achievement myself. He just has the last of Hissing Wastes, The Frostback Basin, and Mythal onwards in the main story to do...

Thanks :D ... it was fun to put them all together into a story. I won't tell you how many I didn't use  And it was a fun fight against the Pride Demon as well. Not as bad as I thought it was gonna be, even though I lost once and nearly twice. Surprised at how much guard that first war cry generated though, because there were never more than two shades on the battlefield with the pride Demon, and War Cry against pride alone only gave a couple bars of guard. Well, I'm not complaining, heh, just surprised.

As for the rift, yeah, I figured it was the shade I couldn't seem to get close to and kill. I've had that thing with the "F" key happen before so i was prepared for that, and I know I was close enough to interact with the rift several times. Oh well, it's all good in the end.

There's hole in your reply. You did tell me how many you didn't use

War Cry. Guard per enemy: 20%. So with Shades and Pride Demon you could get 60% guard per use.
