After exiting out the back door of the Dead Hand, Tanith found herself in a swamp infested with gurguts, laced with cryptic notes, and also inhabited by a dragon.

Any guesses as to who might have written this? Could it be someone we actually encountered in DAO? This is a default world state, so HoF was Dalish.

Spoiler

Tanith watched the swamp dragon fly around and eventually land on the far side of a rift she needed to close. She considered attacking it but decided to leave it alone for now. It wasn't bothering anyone and, if it had been a problem for that rogue Templar and his buddies they happened upon earlier, she might actually owe it a favor.
Spoiler

Besides, with the rifts closed and the rest of her business (except the Citadelle du dead things ) completed, she was kind of in a hurry to get back to Skyhold, just in case Solas had returned.

She ended up getting back ahead of him.
Spoiler

She's still not quite sure what to make of Solas, or what their relationship might be at this point. To take her mind off that, she went to see Dorian, but he was in a heated argument with Mother Giselle. That cleric sure seems to be extremely interested in him for some reason!
Spoiler

Well, that was unexpected. Nice to know exactly where she stands with him.  If only Solas were so easy to figure out. :pinched:

Hmmm, I don't think we encountered him in DAO. I have a fem!Dalish Rogue as Warden (she survived), I think i remember getting the same text. I could look, but I don't remember if this letter is a codex.

Apropos DAO etc, I was reading through the Wiki couldn't remember all my choices because I had forgotten some of the names/quests) and saw that you once have a Quest in DA2 where you have to bring Emile de Launcet back to the Circle of Magi. I wondered why this name sounded so familiar, than I remembered hearing about the de Launcets in the Winter Palace.

Here is a summary of what happened today (yesterday where I am at right now). Arielle Trevelyan:

  • Finished Halamshiral. I am not telling what choice I made, but I ended up getting a new court jester out of it.
  • Liberated Emprise and got closer to beating Samson. Moron.
  • Dealt with the Wardens, gaining them as allies, but losing Loghain in the process (he died a hero).
  • Oh, and Josie "broke up" Arielle because betrothed. gotta deal with that mess now along with prepping for either "end-game" or dragons. Probably "end-game".

Tell me something, how do the games following Origins import choices like hardening Alistair or giving the Dalish their own land in Ferelden?

You don't get to select those in the DA Keep.

Yeah, I always get the same list of confessions too.  I don't think we would have met the author, because he says "While I was mayor..." and none of the places we visited had a mayor.  The closest was Honnleath, which had Matthias as a spokesman and a town council.  Maybe he met the HoF at some society thing later?  The monarch or wardens might parade their hero around, speeches and functions and other tedium.  Aha!  Now we know why she's off finding a cure for the calling.  She's hiding from paparazzi.

@Qun00 - neither choice should make much of a difference.  Ten years of ruling or being a warden would have hardened Alistair a bit anyway, and the boons wound up being cancelled out by other troubles later.  Possibly it's because those types of things really would matter more to the player than the NPCs who don't know the whole story.  I really can't guess what's going to be important later.

Don't feel bad. I collected over 2000 silverite and only got 4 fade touched silverite

Ouch!

How many bears did you kill? I've noticed in my current game that often they only dropped 1, maybe 2 at the most, and some didn't drop any. Still, I ended up with over 50 since I killed a sh*tload of them in the Hinterlands.

I'm not sure of the exact number but for example none of the three bears that you kill for the masterwork claws dropped anything but the claws themselves. I'd estimate that around half of the bears drop nothing and the rest one to three hide.

Sadly, it can be. It seems to be level dependent also, or at least, I seem to run into more Hinterlands bears when I'm low level than when I'm high. Might just be paranoia, though.

Well there's definitely an algorithm that means that the more you kill the fewer there are next time, so it could be that, but this is Imtiyaz's first time through the area.

I was annoyed by the bears but amazed by the fact that I didn't get one single bit of Highever Weave from all of Valammar,

So, what did I do today? I had to swap back to my computer for DAI now *grumbles* I've been using my boyfriend's computer to play it for months and he wants to play WoW again rather then random console games, as is his right to choose, so I have to get my temperamental gaming pc sorted. It's a really good system but golly gosh it's a headache to get to work. Just spent the day updating drivers, tweaking settings, cleaning it and trying to get it not to ctd while playing DAI.

Now I get to spend 4-6 hours in CC again :D

I hope your PC is not troublesome child and you'll have no problems with it!

CC is evil! Speaking of CC

Yesterday I went into CC... I should seriously ban myself from this devil. I created two characters. Spork already saw them, but I thought I'll share them here.

Rowan Trevelyan, 2h (future) Templar, my (planned) completionist nightmare playthrough (it's your fault, all this nightmare talk).

Spoiler
Sacha Cadash, archer (future) assassin.
Spoiler

I completed my personal weekend challenge and helped Spork a bit  ;)

...and RNG gods once again decided to prove that they hate me. But that's another story.

Good Saturday morning everyone!

Rafe has been avoiding going to Halamsharal and Adamant Fortress.  Procrastinate much?  (Okay, this is mostly me.  I enjoy exploring way more than the actual missions).

Rafe tried his hardest to not flirt with Dorian.  In fact whenever there was a flirt option with Dorian, Rafe did not take them (and really, it took all my will to not do so because I LOVE Dorian.  He is the best companion character in the history of EVER).  And Dorian was throwing out obvious hints and flirty compliments.  He was trying to hook Cassandra, but apparently Cassandra is impossible to love.  Constant gifts, flirting, high high approval got him nothing.  NOTHING!  Rafe was sad and dejected as obviously his romantic gestures were in vain.  So, one day in the library in a moment of vulnerability, Rafe decided to seek comfort with Dorian.  And now he's in a relationship with Dorian.  LOL  I'm happy.  Rafe's happy.  We're all happy.

In other news...

Rafe wants to know why people die in Thedas in such unsavory positions?  There is no dignity in dying ass end up like that.

11731627_10153011444911088_6104530347775

And what in the fresh hell is going on here?  Why is there a jester?

11807244_10153011389571088_8824359696692

Rafe really hates these horns.. they are so.. loud.

11794348_10153011652576088_3359108055799

Well, crap.  Maybe it's time to get outta dodge...(Rafe's face in this shot - priceless).

11794223_10153011803291088_1152923536955

The game kept giving me random things that generated guard.. like lambswool... (later I also go fade touched silverite for 5 guard.  This is only the second time in a zillion PTs that I've gotten it.  Speaking fade touched stuff, did you know Velveteen gives you hidden blades with 3 hits?  Now you do, because I got some of that as well).

11754798_10153012779151088_4151166899132

I don't think you understand the gravity of this situation....

11802685_10153013383976088_7332147187639

What the what now?  And again, another jester?  Really Orlais, why do you need to take a jester out with you when you explore?!

Jesters are good as cannon-fodder, distracting the enemy etc. Except when used by Orlesians which is pretty obvious from the look at those pictures  :D

Did you close the darkspawn hole right away or leave it open to respawn? I left it open on the way in, finished the Bianca side quest, then closed it on the way out. That gave me two shots at the darkspawn, er, spawns.

You could probably just leave it open all the time, exit and re-enter Valammar to farm darkspawn, though personally I think the Western Approach near the fortress is the better farming location.

Save files are copyable on PC, if you want to play from where you left off. I copy my save folder after critical milestones (read, difficult-boss-battles-wouldn't-want-to-have-to-do-over).

Should be in \Users\X\Documents\Bioware\Dragon Age Inquisition, where X is your user name. Just copy that whole folder over.

I guess you could also enable the cloud save option in Origin, but I never do because, you know, it's Origin.

I just sealed it. Imtiyaz hasn't actually been anywhere but the Hinterlands and Forbidden Oasis, yet. He's just about to do In Hushed Whispers, so no Bianca quest. That's a long way in his future... It's not that I was expecting to get loads, but I did think that he'd pick at least some up!

Good on Rafe! Cass doesn't know what she's missing. :P Plus, Dorian.

I found that same jester the other day. Creepy jesters are still creepy even if they're dead.

Ditto on the horns. If I didn't need to sound them off to finish the mission, I wouldn't bother. My cats don't like them any more than I do.

I would be more inclined to use the cloud save option if it could be configured for specific games only. But, it's either on or off, and since I don't want every single save I have ever done uploaded (there are too many anyway) I just leave it off. When I finish a PT, I move my kept saves to another folder to make room for the new character save files. Stupid 250 save slot limit. Still better than ME2/3 with the 50 save slot limit, but at least theirs is per character, not total.

Update on Stennis, slowrunning 2H Tal-Vashoth, former merc, now Champion, pish tosh!

Slogged through Heartburn without major incident. Bees took care of Fiona and having both Vivienne and Solas on dispel duty, didn't have too much trouble with spellbinder fire mines.

Solas pulled a Fennec out of his hood and gave us Skyhold. Pretty nifty, though all the door and archways are too low. Stennis has to keep ducking or risk breaking a horn.

Surprise! Everyone voted Stennis for Inquisitor and town Mabari-catcher. He thought carefully before deciding to accept. He'd been a mercenary for most of his short life and wasn't sure he was cut out for this role, but then he realized what it would mean to be Inquisitor. He announced to the whole world why he would accept the position ...

Spoiler

After talking to the Champion of Kirkwall, Stennis decided that Champions were cool and decided to become one. Lord Chancer (I bet that name gets misspelled a lot!) sent Stennis on a surprisingly difficult quest for the favors of three Orlesian champions in the Exalted Plains. And I thought Tempest was annoying -- at least you can finish it in one visit to the Storm Coast. Champion specialization unconditionally requires a war table mission and minimum two visits. At least the battles with the chevaliers were fun. I went into the first one expecting a cake walk and roundly got my arse handed to me, all party members got dirt napped. Funny thing, they really were an education, just like Lord Chancer said. I think my tactics are better now.

After talking to Lorc Chancer high up in a corner parapet, Stennis took a shortcut to talk to Blackwall and ran into this very strange little fellow (first time ever in any playthrough -- I'm so excited!) Stennis made a total guess and guessed right! 1 for 1!

Spoiler

Finally, Stennis set off for Crestwood to meet this mysterious friend of Hawke's, who turned out to be Teryn Warden Loghain, the Traitor!

Spoiler

Stennis doesn't trust this guy any further than he can throw him -- except, that's really far, so maybe the wrong cliche phrase to use in this case -- but it couldn't hurt to check out the Western Approach. Could it?

With the drops, I've noticed they seem to run in strings, with the richest haul the 2nd time through.  When I did Begritt's for instance, I wound up last time with only 1 bear hide (yeah, Uncle, that was a rotten haul.)  The next time through, after I'd been to real bear country at the mouth of the Long River, I had one bear after another, frequently dropping multiple pelts.  I did Long River and went straight back to that area of the Hinterlands, and wound up harvesting 60 bear pelts in a single trip, at around level 9.  New armor and weapons for everybody.

Same thing happens at Crestwood.  First time through, I got 9 stormheart.  After the Abyss, I went back and got 31.  Next time, 6.

With some of it, I think the source dries up when a certain inventory level or alternate source is available.  I've noticed that the spot near the wooden bridge in the Graves where the great bears reliably spawn becomes nearly barren of the things after Suledin Keep is captured, for instance, as do the runs of bears at Elfsblood River.  When I've got a lot of a leather in inventory, drops seem smaller, but that might be just how I perceive it, since I'm comparing it to what I had been getting.

Today, I learned a few things.

First and foremost, confusion grenades don't work if you want to get 2 giants fighting each other instead of you.  They may be slow, but they're smart enough.  All you wind up doing is blowing smoke up their....

Spoiler

Sometimes using an ability doesn't trigger.  I swear the action was not only engaged, but begun.  Why didn't a rift happen?  I have no idea.

Spoiler

I did get to hear a set of banter I'd been looking forward to.

Spoiler

After clearing Firewater Garden and its environs of giants, we decided that it was so easy, we really didn't need health potions or anything anyway.  Onward to Chateau Onterre!

I remembered to make a named save to go back to this time. :)

I had a bit of insight into how landscapes might get painted.  I was wondering how with Elissa being Dalish, she'd look at the art on the walls.  This painting is of the place the artist thought of as her homeland.  It's of the war-torn, ruined part of the Dales, not the part she identifies with.  Who painted this picture?  Were they a soldier fighting another war against the elves, or someone looking for rustic beauty in their backyard?  Not all that important, but fun to distract myself with for a few minutes.

Spoiler

And of course, the real reason I came, other than to have lots of fun blowing up mooks.

Spoiler

Elissa leveled up in the process of going through the library, so the boss fight was over very, very fast.

She lobbed Antivan fire while Cole used bees.  Then, I left the gang to carry on and used a flask of fire, poisoned weapons, and flank attacked.  The AI again overrode, but this time in my favor.  It changed to a basic attack, so when the horror jumped in the next move, I still had the flank attack to use and finish him off with the twin fangs while he was still shocked.  The detonation destroyed any corpses the fire didn't.  Way too short.

Spoiler

I hadn't brought this group together before, and Cole made a few comments I hadn't heard.  The only one that was the same was at the end, in fact.

Spoiler

I do have to say, I felt insulted.  All that work (shhhhh, we're not saying anything), and no arcane horror heart to show for it.  Just some worthless loot.  Oh, wait, I didn't see the amulet.  :)

Spoiler

I did have enough inventory space after the perk, and I got another one at the same time I leveled up, too.  Time to visit the war room, then it's off to find that flower wreath, um, Ardent Blossoms, that's it.  Gotta check the map where to look again.  Trying to find something specific in the Graves is like a needle in a haystack.  Look for this rock formation....

Yeah, things like that makes me really happy that I play with English VA. I even changed DAO VA from my native language one to English one. A bit of digging in setting files, but it's worth it.

I went to check those two noble women... Meh, too much walking for one piece of dialogue. I'll check that during Phrona's pt.

But!

Baby Connie. She still looked so innocent! Though hinds of 'why do I need to deal with this sh*t' started to appear in her eyes...

Spoiler

I always wondered why ZITHER! looks the way he does. Then I loaded WEWH save... Eh, Orlesians.

After finding all the glyphs in the Plains, Tanith and the mage-quisition visited the ancient Temple of Dirthamen. The place was crawling with undead, which seems to be standard fare for old elfy ruins, a fact Tanith is sure has an explanation she's probably not going to like. <_<

Spoiler

They put the dismemebered Highest One back together and he ended up being a despair demon. Tanith wondered if his sorry state was the result of the elven gods disappearing or something else.

Sidenote: If you want to gather all the runes, you will need to bring a warrior. Stone Fist didn't work on the bash door that hides the last one (I tried it like 15 times). Also, there is loot behind a locked door that requires a rogue to open. All the other locked doors have handles on the other side you can get to, but not that one.

Once back at Skyhold, she went to talk with Solas.
Spoiler

When going back inside, the light caught the stained glass windows, so I decided to take a picture, then compare it to the view from the inside. The backside looks more defined for some reason.

Also, the mini-canopy on the Avvar bed is not for standing on.

Way to rub it in for all the heartbroken Cass-mancers out there. ;) But, that just means Bruce gets to buy drinks ad infinitum for the rest of them now. I think poor Harold got lost in the swamp of Frostback Basin, he's so distraught.

As for NM....you can do it!

I'm sorry  tbh I was worried I'd get Cassandra at first, cause I did everything like I did in my first PT, except telling Cass to become Divine

I think after Bruce just closed the Breach again AND defeated Corypheus, he can do that.

Aww, poor Harold :(

Yeah, things like that makes me really happy that I play with English VA. I even changed DAO VA from my native language one to English one. A bit of digging in setting files, but it's worth it.

Good luck on that! You played on hard, so it shouldn't be so... hard... to get it  ;)

The Problem is just, I like the German voices per se (and I'm scared I break something if I do something to the files  :? ) Lit. the ONLY thing I don't like is, they changed Alistair's and Zevran's VA. Idk why they changed Alistairs VA, but Zevran's voices male!Hawke in DA2 and DAI. It. So. Doesn't. Fit! >.<

Thanks. Yeah, I think so too. Over time "Hard" became easy. xD
