So I kinda got to thinking about DAO lately and decided to roll an elf mage. Oddly despite the countless times I have played DAO I never once made an elf mage. Its been rather interesting to get both mage and elf dialog.
Anyway meet Elenwynn.
Taken from her elven clan by bold Templars when she was a child, Elenwynn spent most of her life inside the Circle Tower in Ferelden. There she practiced her skills, catching the eye of the first enchanter Irvine as a capable mage. She also caught the eye of a rather bashful young Templar named Cullen who stuttered when she spoke to him and ran off when she expressed a desire to get to know him better. It was all rather amusing and helped fill the boredom of living under chantry law and Templar rule. As an elf born into the clans, she missed what she could remember of those days. And she grew rather resentful of the fact she was being subjugated to the laws of man and his Maker. So much so in fact that shortly after passing her Harrowing, Elenwynn took to a darker path.
When her friend Jowen confessed in her his love for a chantry sister named Lily who planned to help him escape the Circle, Elenwynn decided to betray him. She sensed something in Irvine every time she caught him arguing with Knight Commander Gregor that he resented so much Templar rule as much as she did. So she informed Irvine of Jowen's plans and agreed to help expose the chantry as being corruptible. When someone trusts you, its not hard to stab them in the back and well this is exactly what Elenwynn did.
She exposed Lily as a corrupted chantry sister, ultimately betraying her friendship with Jowen but it was Jowen who got the last laugh. He secretly had been dabbling in the forbidden arts of Blood Magic and as the Templars closed in, he used his new found skills to cause everyone to pass out. When they came to, he was gone.
Knight Commander Gregor was outraged at Irvine and Elenwynn's actions but found there was little he could do about them. Elenwynn had been acting under orders of her First Enchanter. But that did not stop him from ranting about. Luckily there happened to be a Grey Warden visiting the tower by the name of Duncan. He was a charming older fellow who Elenwynn had taken a liking to after sharing some talks with him shortly after his arrival. He had told her about darkspawn and the possibility of another blight. Sensing it in Elenwynn's best interest to remove her from between Gregor and Irvine, Duncan offered to take her into the Wardens. Elenwynn did not hesitate to agree. Her chance to leave the tower and Templar scrutiny was before her and she was not about to pass it up.
Several days later, Elenwynn and Duncan arrived at the old ruins of Ostagar where the king's army had fought and won several battles against the darkspawn horde that lurked within the Korcari Wilds. Despite the dangers this all meant, Elenwynn was enjoying the fresh air and the freedom her new found position had to offer.
For a time she explored the camp, getting to know several people including the king's father inlaw and leader of his armies, Loghain. She also met a charming young rogue named Daveth and a warrior named Sir Jory who were to partake in the secret Grey Warden joining ritual along with her. They seemed to know as little about it as she did as the ritual was shrouded in secrecy. But Daveth felt sure they would be headed into the Korcari Wilds as part of the test.
After successfully pissing off a chantry sister who called her heathan, Elenwynn tracked down Duncan's latest recruit, a cheerful fellow by the name of Alistair. Despite quickly learning he was an ex-templar, Elenwynn felt that he seemed nice enough to one day be considered a friend. Eventually she made her way back to Duncan's camp and there she and the others learned of the first step in the ritual. They were in fact suppose to go into the Wilds and collect bottles of dark spawn blood. They were also suppose to search for ancient Grey Warden treaties left in an enchanted chest somewhere in an old fort. It seemed simple enough and Elenwynn was eager to prove herself.
And prove herself she did. The others were impressed with the young elf mage's skills in magic as she seemed to effortlessly cast spells upon an attacking pack of wolves. And then there was the dark spawn. She wove magical spells around them, draining them of life and resistances. All was going quite well for the group despite the odds and before long they had plenty of dark spawn blood. And they even discovered a chest which contained a chasind mage outfit. After making sure everyone but Daveth had shielded their eyes, Elenwynn changed into the outfit. She liked how it looked but her enchanted robes offered better protection.
The ruined fort with the documents was located at the far end of the Wilds but when they got there, only dust and rubble was found. After digging through some broken chests, Elenwynn soon realized they were being watched.
"Well well... what have we here?"
An apostate mage appeared and after some concerned comments from Alistair about the dangers of swooping, Elenwynn learned the woman's name was Morrigan. Elenwynn could tell she already liked this woman and the two managed a rather polite and civil conversation about the missing Grey Warden documents. It turned out Morrigan's mother, the "witch of the wilnds" known as Flemmeth had taken them. And in a surprising twist seemed to have done so in order to protect them. She handed them over without fuss to Alistair and warned them all that a danger greater then they realized was upon them all.
Was she a nutty old bat? Or speaking the truth. Elenwynn could not say. But it was with a growing fear that she returned with the others to Duncan. Something about the appoaching evening just did not feel right.
