[JD Buzz]

I started playing The Descent DLC last night with my Knight Enchanter Alessandra. Accompanying her are her best friend Cassandra, Varric and Dorian.

 

Just to let everyone know this is the heroic, religious version of Alessandra. I'll be taking her evil 2H Reaver counterpart into the Deep Roads later.

 

My thoughts on this new adventure:

So far, I'm enjoying it. The scenic view of the Deep Roads are beautiful and I like that there's much to learn about Dwarven history. The enemy fights aren't bad, but like JoH they get increasingly challenging as you further explore. It's nice that Shaper Valta and the Legion of the Dead Lieutenant act as extra team members during these battles, because it gets pretty crazy. Plus I like learning about their characters.

 

The new lyrium infused staff schematic looks cool, but I didn't craft it for my Knight Enchanter. She kept her gold fire dragon staff instead.

 

One thing I've noticed is the character rendering looks a little different than in JoH and the main story, but I'm not picky. Just want to play the game and have fun with it

I finished my second readthrough of Asunder yesterday. I cried. A lot.

And I reminded some things that I either forgot or didn't make sense when I was reading it for the fist time.

Now I have to finish Stars and Stripes - which I skipped because of Asunder, so I can finally return it to my friend...

So just started Descent.  And OMG I think I'm in love so far. 

 

Non spoilery stuff first.  

 

• Trevor Frickin Morris.  Nuff said.  
• The graphics are gorgeous.  Proof that next gen only is kinda working?  
• On this vain for the first time I am noticing even more things.  The rally effect.  Criss crossing spells (what is this Harry Potter?) flying about me, and Sera just being a leeettle awesome.  
• And at first I was worried because my bow was not doing the damage it should have been doing it seemed.  So I was worried...then I noticed it was firing green arrows...it should not be fighting green arrows.  I actually had my Dragon hunting Dragon Bow equipped instead of my normal one.  Oops.  Funilly enough the Hunting Bow has more base damage but the 'Dumat's Wrath' has like 24 more Dex.  
• And blue screen of death during epic battle wiped out my video of said epic battle.  

....and I realize I do not think I have anything to spoil at this venture.

I finished Jaws again with my Qunari Necromancer. I really wish there was more Iced Dragon Bone and Iced Dragon Hide.

I know you'll be careful, Rascoth, but I can't wait to hear what you've got to say.  I'm going to have to wait a few months to play myself, but I'm having a lot of fun exploring the Frostback Basin.  With the HUD turned off, I'm finding so much stuff I didn't know was there.  Dorian's a gimme, but this time I brought Cass and Cole.  I don't know if I've ever even had them both in the party together before.

 

I did take a fantastic picture of a sunset.  I'd thought about getting the purple nug or better, the nuggalope, but then realized that the reason I'm going is to buy schematics, so I want my cash for now.  After everyone's got new gear.  Have a sunset.

 

The common (but more dangerous) bogfisher is no match for the noble tusket.  It's the horn.

Why I thought taking this guy on with the wrong potions in stock was a good idea is anyone's guess.  It didn't end well.

Preserving the indignity further was the last thing on my mind, and I didn't take any pictures.  Suffice it to say, properly armed, we kicked butt.

 

Found Oghren's boat after it washed out of the Blackmarsh.  If we run into him I'll give him directions.

Spoiling myself is going to be a given, but no matter how much you hear about it or how many screens you see, it's nothing like playing yourself.  I'll enjoy every moment when it's my turn.

Did you find the dragon skull in the waterfall near the temple in the north-west corner of the map? That contains a little extra Ice Dragon bone. There's not much to be had, though, sadly. Same with Imbued Tusket Hide...

Hmmm, I think my attitude is still the same as before.

I don't really care for the Order as a whole. I like my Warden(s), Alistair, Fiona, Duncan and Kell, but the Order itself needs a collective slap by Gibbs.

 

I never liked the whole "We'll do everything to end the Blights!!!" The idea behind it is nice, but they forget that there are other ways instead of only making "hard decisions". They should stop with their secrets among themselves and should start talking to each other, comparing their knowledge and finding better ways for doing their job.

 

Till now all I saw them (mostly the Commanders (Genevieve & Clarel)) doing was: "THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY!!!!" *obsessed talking* ( /@ A@)/

Which pretty much reminds me off~

Meredith and Anders. 

 

Maybe it's the taint who makes them this obsessed (Meredith was affected by the Red Lyrium, Anders was/is a Grey Warden and merged with Justice (now Vengeance)) which would probably mean, that no Warden should be Commander who's taint has advanced as far as Genevieve's, because it impairs their judgement and they don't realize it until it's too late.

Other brief thoughts.  This whole thing feels and looks like Dragon Age Origins.  Its almost a seamless upgrade into the Frostbite 3 Engine.  And I would never thought I would say this feels like DA O in a positive light before.  But this just feels like the exact same reactions I was finding in DA Os Deep Roads. Epic Dungeon Crawling.  Epic fights.  And again...it...looks...gorgeous.  

 

Now some spoilery things.  Just two quick thoughts.

In Heidrun Thaig I was crawling around the level looking for a way to advance to the next objective. And I saw a cave. "lets go into the creepy cave." I said to myself.

During the epic Dark Spawn sweep of said Thaig I came around the corner and saw two Ogres. "LEts do dis" I said. Turns out the battle was too epic for my PS4 to handle.

I was pretty much was playing as Chasimess Winters 

 

 

(Level 25 female human DWK assassin rouge for the refresher course).

 

Basically I took several of your peoples suggestions to improve pitch gernades so I spend a good 1-2 hours herb hunting to improve it. I realized I kind of need Aria veins for I think it's MIGHTY OFFENCE potion? Regardless I don't remember where to get those.

 

By the way I actually got the MIGHT OFFENCE potion now (better late than never). It was actually pretty funny to get. Chasimess, iron Bull, Black wall, Vivianne, and three blades of Hessarian trashed the guy who drops the key. I was like Lol because it was a 7 on one. I never had that happen before.

I also hit the JOH DLC. I got most of the quests done. I killed all the fade touched creatures, found the mountain climber and prayed, saved the bear and killed the group, told Harding of the dead agent, turned in the quest about the Hakkon camp spots, collected all shards, busted all portals, did the first part of Nox Morta and a few other things. I just got a garbage amount of misions to turn into the avaar then I got to hit one of the spots for the Ameridan thing, activate the alters to destroy the ice wall then i'm off to the temple.

 

 

PS: Future thanks to people who intend to play the DECENT DLC and put their pics in "Spoilers". I went looking for it and like JOH I have to wait months for it to come out. ><.

Oh and third thoughts, probably final thoughts.  While it looks and feels like DA O.  It has the combat of Inquisition.  Which makes the previous statements about DA O fifty times more awesome.  DA O with DA Is combat system would have been...interesting apparently.
